This can be a costly endeavor, often-substantial training is required to use the technologies, and improvements to educational quality because of their implementation are not easily measured. Research has found higher education faculty lack technological knowledge and skills, but less is known about how faculty perceive specific technologies. Learning management systems, such as Blackboard Learn (BBL), have previously been used to support the teaching and learning process, but during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent move to online learning, such systems often became the platform for all teaching and learning activities. This study aimed to investigate how BBL was being utilized and the perceptions held by faculty during this time in a higher education institute in the United Arab Emirates. Faculty were asked to assess items on a five-point scale and to write detailed answers to open-ended questions via an online survey. The results were generally positive; faculty were able to continue many of their teaching and learning activities. Faculty also reported on obstacles faced, however, these challenges often referred to the online learning mode, rather than specifically to BBL. Implications and recommendations are discussed.","PeriodicalId":256713,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126758950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new educational system adopts sophisticated assessment processes, designing and assessing the teaching curriculum and the different academic programs based on the learning outcome rather than the teaching input. This helps the educational management spot weaknesses, direct the teaching process toward the goals, and continuously improve the learning process. In addition, the schools use the documents produced by this process as evidence that the academic programs regularly meet specific criteria required by international accreditation institutions such as ABET. However, this process places an extra load on the instructors and the educational management for managing an effective assessment process. This paper proposes the Educational Course and Program Assessment System (ECPAS), a software system with novel features that simplifies managing the educational course and programs assessment process for both the instructor and the academic management. The proposed system will allow the educational administration to assess their courses and programs and provide a novel student level of assessment to improve the overall quality.","PeriodicalId":256713,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129523221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, to develop or maintain software systems for such SMEs, special structures should be considered for each type. In addition, to maintain existing software systems, software engineers face a big challenge while trying to understand their code first. To overcome such difficulties, several researchers have developed tools to support software maintenance engineers in understanding software code. They have set up different code interpretation rules to understand code structure such as classes, methods, attributes, and the relationships between classes. However, these tools lack the focus on transforming code cardinality. This paper proposes a code transformation approach to enhance the understandability of code structure with a focus on code cardinality. Therefore, a semi-automated approach that relies on five main transformation rules is introduced. To evaluate the effectiveness of this approach, two case studies were conducted using different project codes. The results show that compared to traditional approaches the proposed approach has decreased the time and effort consumed by developers to understand the investigated code.","PeriodicalId":256713,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134448910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students in the pre-Internet era often had to study alone and take exams just once or twice for each course. As a result, students were traditionally evaluated mainly on their performance on a limited number of tests, and they had limited opportunities to engage in collaborative learning. This delivery paradigm had very weak outcomes and could only be used with a small subset of participants, despite a large number of improvements to the underlying procedures. Further, distance learning became possible because of the incorporation of current ICT into the classroom. The information and skills gained through this method of education must be on par with those gained through more conventional means. The primary benefit of this method of education is that it allows students to study at their own pace and in their own locations around the world. Although this method of education is widely used in other parts of the world, only 18 universities in Arab countries have had at least one distance - learning program authorized. The goal of this article is to investigate the views on E-learning held by PhD lecturers working in Arab universities. There were 200 PhD lecturers involved in the research. The researchers created questionnaires to gather the necessary information. Based on the research conducted, it was determined that the primary obstacles to E-learning at Arab universities included academic, administrative, and technical difficulties. The findings also demonstrated that students are cognizant of the merits of E-learning. They consider themselves to have an exceptionally optimistic outlook on E-learning. Because the E-learning system is flexible, it can be changed to meet the needs of those who are working to improve communication and the learning opportunities available to PhD lecturers.","PeriodicalId":256713,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126767108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, most Arab legislations worked to confront it, and took all necessary measures to prevent its commission and impose penalties on the offender. Among these legislations is Federal Decree-Law No. (34) of 2021 in the matter of combating rumors and cybercrime in the UAE, Law No. (175) of (2018) in the matter of combating Egyptian information technology crimes, and the Jordanian Cybercrime Combating Law of 2015 and its amendments in 2018. The research mainly addressed the regulation decided by the UAE legislator, and for that, we chose to search for the nature of electronic extortion in the first topic, to enter from that to the scope of the second topic to explain the pillars of the crime of electronic extortion and the third topic to explain the penalty for the crime of electronic blackmail, and we ended the research with a conclusion that included the most important results and recommendations.","PeriodicalId":256713,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129697570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of its countless applications in business and the huge number of involved questions, such context has received substantial attention in different domains such as economics, political science, philosophy, and in recent years, computer science. Despite a considerable literature body that studied this kind of context, most efforts assume the availability of precise and complete information about the stakeholders' preferences needed by the decision-making process. Nevertheless, this assumption is invalid because of the confidentiality issues and immense cognitive burden. The target of this study is to formally discuss these restrictions by focusing on prior studies that look at dealing with partial information and proposing solution notions and concepts that assist the development of methods and algorithms that work with inaccurate and partial information in multiple contexts. The paper focuses on the decision-making process under partial information. At the begging, the study address informally the following question: under partial information about the stakeholder preferences, how can we develop an algorithm that is ‘good’, in other words, an algorithm that produces “good” results regarding the complete intrinsic preferences. The paper looks at this problem in a modified version of the two-sided matching problem and shows how to design an approximately-powerful algorithm in such contexts.","PeriodicalId":256713,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133810205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although it is used frequently, there is still lack of widespread awareness of STEM education, especially among pre-service teachers with less educational experience and different backgrounds. This research has focused on understanding pre-service mathematics teachers' perspectives toward STEM education. For this purpose, 52 pre-service mathematics teachers responded to a survey used to collect data about their general beliefs about STEM and their competency to teach STEM. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data by calculating frequencies and percentages. The findings revealed that participants show a high degree of agreement with positive general perceptions of STEM education. However, a significant proportion of participants demonstrated negative general perceptions of STEM education. The vast majority of participants showed lack of competencies needed to teach STEM.","PeriodicalId":256713,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Arab Conference on Information Technology (ACIT)","volume":"224 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132427757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
