That work presented a prototype system called We-Plan, as a preliminary yet effective multi-agent solution to help human users carry out MDS planning in complex dynamic application domains. At this time, the We-Plan system has gone through a significant improvement and its functionality has reached an operational level that is beyond simple proof-of-concept, i.e., multiple geographically separated users engaged in a MDS planning mission may employ this software system to generate and manage their task plans, allocate selected tasks to other users based on their capability and availability, keep track of task execution status, and maintain an effective coordination and a high level shared situational awareness among all the mission participants. This paper further discusses the real-world challenges in MDS planning and presents the We-Plan solution in detail, including its key components and important software capabilities that enable effective, efficient and practical MDS planning in a representative use case.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132046275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For instance, there are increasing numbers of individuals living with neurological deficits such as stroke who have the potential to recover in the home setting - however, left on their own, these individuals can suffer from decreased functional ability [4, 5]. Novel technologies present the ability to close the loop between the clinician and the patient as people navigate through ambient settings while living with chronic conditions. The targeted use of assistive technologies to address this outstanding need requires the development of wearable sensors, algorithms to extract meaningful clinical data, and mechanisms to provide feedback to affect health outcomes. In particular, the application of wearable sensing and robotic technologies can be used to address unsolved problems in motor rehabilitation [6-8]. Validation of these techniques will lead to the translation of laboratory and clinic-based techniques into daily life, and patient-centered approaches to medical interventions.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132208025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Minimally Invasive Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is performed to ablate tumor tissues using a needle-like probe with multiple electrodes. In this paper, a computational algorithm to plan optimal needle trajectories subject to complete tumor coverage is proposed. The algorithm was designed such that it had taken into consideration of the multiple objectives that the tumor ablation aims to achieve. The concepts of sphere covering and genetic algorithm were utilized in the algorithm proposed. The simulation of the preliminary algorithm had also displayed results that met the objectives designed for the algorithm.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133590698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address these needs, existing approaches tend to build a layer on top of traditional database technologies that implements a specific distribution model. In contrast, our aim was to integrate concepts into a database that would provide native support for data sharing while allowing developers the flexibility of configuring their own distribution models and collaboration logic. As proof of concept, we present Co-ODB, an object database that can be used to support a wide variety of architectures and modes of sharing. We describe how Co-ODB has been implemented and illustrate how it can be used to implement applications with different collaboration logics.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132827501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a possibility that those real-time avatars can serve as a substitute for videos in distant communication. We conducted an experiment to observe differences between video chat and voice chat, and examined whether avatar chat can produce the same differences. In the experiment the subjects watched a conversation partner's video, avatar, photo, or nothing when speaking to the partner. Since the video and avatar delivered the partner's motion while the video and photo delivered the partner's appearance, we were able to observe the effects of the motion and appearance separately. As a result, we found that presenting the motion via a video or an avatar increased the degree of the smoothness of speaking to the partner.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121831705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to use these algorithms in safety critical embedded systems one has to ensure a minimum confidence level, quality assurance, and reliability. In addition, decision algorithms are designed and developed by domain experts and system integrators do not have control over the performance of low level components. Hence, there is a compelling need for a scalable framework, which accelerates the system integration and at the same time is conform to safety levels. This position paper presents a Quality of Service (QoS) based component architecture so as to address this problem. Our approach introduces a component model that segregates the functional and non-functional aspects of decision making.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125473245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the proliferation of WSNs, a broad range of ubiquitous computing applications has been enabled in distributed sensing and control areas. Accordingly, the amount of data gathered by contemporary WSNs is becoming larger and larger, and creating unprecedented challenges in terms of computation and storage. Cloud computing, on the other hand, provides a data-intensive processing environment. Integrating cloud computing with WSNs is becoming one growing trend due to its great potential to enhance existing capabilities of WSNs. However, this integrated system brings more security issues, emanating from both WSNs and cloud computing. Ensuring data safety as well as system performance is an essential enabler and one of the major challenges to overcome. In this paper, we first study the architecture of cloud-integrated WSNs, identify security challenges in this architecture, and then discuss how trust management could be effectively used to enhance the security of such a system.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125634275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The platform should enhance the communication between departments and interdepartmentally. The goal of this pilot study is to accompany the introduction of this social networking tool in order to increase acceptability and usage among the employees of the company. Five different actions have been taken for implementation: information kick-off workshops to raise awareness, a survey on success criteria, an expert evaluation on usability problems, collaborative use case definition, and a survey on benchmarking the tool in terms of user experience and acceptability. In this paper, we discuss the benefits and limitations of our approach and we will outline the future work, which will happen after the pilot phase.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127688279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many jobs [4, 5]. It supports shared information repositories as well as sharing the real time and asynchronous interaction between teachers and learners. The promise of virtual universities in the cloud has been highlighted by the growing interest in MOOC's (massive open online courses) which are naturally hosted on clouds. The basic delivery model of MOOC's is reasonably traditional with the scaling of clouds added. However MOOC's emphasize new collaboration models for the interaction between mentors (graders, teachers) and students. Further “laboratories” are typically used in many classes and we discuss the use of clouds to support computing labs attached to computer science and related classes. We suggest that MOOC technology can be used in different ways. Rather than single classes aimed at many students, we suggest that an alternative is multiple classes customized for different communities. Here we have a MOOC lesson repository (in the cloud) and technology like Google Course Builder to construct different “play lists” corresponding to the different classes. This has been implicitly used in past with “PowerPoint” presentations placed on the web and then re-used in different ways However often PowerPoint is hard to re-use and it seems more promising to re-use the MOOC lesson with presentation and recorded lecture.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129239420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern semantic search engines such as KBSI's Collaborative Semantic Search (CSS) technology application may provide significant leverage to address this problem by empowering analysts to express their information needs. Because analysts seldom work in isolation, a shared understanding of analysis goals and subsequent sharing of knowledge and effort can significantly improve analytic outcomes. In this paper, we describe our efforts in adding collaboration capabilities into our CSS technology application. We describe the small internal user study that was carried out to better understand the requirements of collaboration during search. These requirements led to the design and implementation of specific enhancements to our existing search application to support such collaboration. The resulting CSS technology supports the ability to document and share search objectives and results, and to automatically identify users with similar objectives.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122796632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
