China is the leading producer and exporter of rare earth elements, mineral substances that are critical to high technology sectors, clean industries, or defense. Available data suggest that China has been using its leading position to promote the development of the country’s main industries, but also to achieve geopolitical goals. The Chinese industrial and trade policies have made clear to importing countries the urge to keep global value chains’ resilience in strategic sectors for economic and national security.","PeriodicalId":256602,"journal":{"name":"DAXIYANGGUO - REVISTA PORTUGUESA DE ESTUDOS ASIÁTICOS / PORTUGUESE JOURNAL OF ASIAN STUDIES","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123313843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This brief article explores these concepts in a succinct manner, through the analysis of extant literature, as to explain what this lack of visibility and bias actually entail. It is also unavoidable to delve into how revolutionary the widespread use of the internet has been on the reconfiguration of these matters, as it allowed for unprecedented agency in content creation. LGBTQ people have been experiencing a period of empowerment thanks to social media, and this is yet another tool through which visibility and representation are being built. An insightful observer and defender of monarchical constitutionalism, Liang watched with concern the fall of the Braganzas monarchy in Portugal and the republican revolution of October 5, from which he sought to draw lessons for his own country. This article focuses on the essay Causes of the Portuguese Revolution and its Future (in chinese 葡萄牙革命之原因及其将来 Putaoya geming zhi yuanyin ji qi jianglai), written by Liang Qichao days after the Portuguese revolution, and attempts to analyze it in the light of the political thought of the Chinese intellectual. The main argument is that the articulation between soft and sharp power is an inherent characteristic of Chinese public diplomacy. This argument features soft power as a power style operating not only in the international dimension, but also in the domestic dimension. After China’s contextualization, the analytical matrix was built from the operationalization of key concepts, namely public diplomacy, soft power and sharp power, paying attention to Chinese characteristics. The case study was led with data collected from primary and secondary sources. Besides the indication of paths for future developments, the conclusion summarizes how Chinese public diplomacy managed soft and sharp power with positive results in the international sphere and suggests that incorporating sharp power to diplomatic toolbox may be useful. European banquets that many associate with the ancient Greeks and Romans, Italian antipasto whose origin is attributed to Marco Polo who brought it from China, Portuguese acepipes linked to the Arabic Az-zibib and the Chinese Yam chá are according to some, are the basis for the designation Chá Gordo and the dishes that make up this special meal in Macanese cuisine. The eating habits and customs of the Japanese Christians who sought safe haven in Macau in the aftermath of Shogun Tokugawa’s expulsion Edit of 1614 greatly influenced the Macanese cuisine. The more recent reflections associate Chá Gordo which is served in the afternoon, with the traditional English High Tea. The variety of dishes of the Chá Gordo is given as the reason why it was developed in the nineteenth and twentieth century in the homes of affluent Macanese families. Most if not all of these narratives are speculative, probably based on oral tradition. In this paper we will explore a different line of thought taking account of historical facts from maritime history characterized by tragedy, resilience and religious devotion that over time became features of Macanese identity and the basis of the origin and custom of the Macanese Chá Gordo.
