It is determined that in order to improve the quality of domestic education, one of the leading tasks of professional training of students is the formation of a competitive specialist, in particular, the formation of his foreign communicative competence. The process of learning a foreign language for students of non-language specialties is considered. It is noted that it has specific features and characteristics, namely: a certain lexical base, professional terminology, business correspondence, selection of communicative tasks, reading texts and listening tasks, based on the professional activities of students. It is proved that the effectiveness of foreign language teaching can be achieved if students are included in the process of active independent and creative learning activities. Students must be able to interact in accordance with their internal goals and needs, maintain their individuality, make responsible decisions. It is also important to give them a wide choice of different activities, from which they can choose the one closest to their abilities and talents. It is determined that the most productive and relevant methods of teaching a foreign language for professionals in non-language specialties are more communicative and problematic methods. It is proved that it is necessary to use those forms and methods of teaching a foreign language that most enhance communicative and cognitive activities.","PeriodicalId":255187,"journal":{"name":"Current issues of linguistics and translations studies","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128127302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the context of Ukraine’s integration into the European and world community, the activity of a philologist-translator, focused on strengthening economic, social, cultural and scientific ties between countries, ethnic groups, professional associations and individuals, becomes especially important. It is determined that translation is a communicative mediation between people who use different sign systems. Given the importance of its role in the modern multicultural environment, the problem of training qualified philologists-translators in the higher education system is relevant. It has been proved that recently the requirements for the level of training of a philologist-translator, his professional competencies and personal qualities have increased, thus orienting teachers of higher education institutions to apply innovative approaches to the organization of the educational process. The role of interactive teaching methods in the process of training future philologists-translators is substantiated. It is determined that the following types of interactive learning are used in domestic higher education institutions: case study method, training conferences, translation quests, simulation of real translation situations, project method, game technologies, interpretation competitions. It is proved that the key task of higher education is the formation of professional competencies of future philologists-translators, which include personal characteristics that ensure the effective performance of professional functions.","PeriodicalId":255187,"journal":{"name":"Current issues of linguistics and translations studies","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122817470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kuz","doi":"10.31891/2415-7929-2022-23-4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31891/2415-7929-2022-23-4","url":null,"abstract":"The article examines the peculiarities of Yurii Klen’s flash fiction creation in the genre and stylistic aspect, drawing attention to the individual modes of artistic existence, the metaphysical perspective of modeling reality. Using specific examples, an attempt was made to analyze the genre and stylistic originality of flash fiction, highlighting the peculiarities of the existential manifestations, the unknowable and irrational in the human Self through the prism of style dynamics, psychological aspects. It has been proved that the verbal transmission of sounds and songs clearly and exhaustively reveals auditory perception, fills the work with deep associations, and helps the character to learn more about the world. Musicality enhances the inner image of the hero, his dreams and hopes. For the first time, we have clarified and interpreted the genre peculiarities of the short story “Apples”. It has been revealed that the linguistic ornament enriches the lyrical prose of Yurii Klen. Although ornamental poetics is modeled only in certain parts of texts, it performs fundamental functions for the entire prose work, because it expresses various leitmotivs, more comprehensively reveals the perception of the world, creates multi-aspect subtexts, intensifies the suggestive function of the word, space-time parameters, more clearly illuminates the point of view of the characters. The linguistic ornament in the short story “Apples”, in the novellas “Medallion”, “Acacia”, “Adventures of the Archangel Raphael” makes it possible to reach the level of the ontological field of social reality, to identify the philosophical line, to expand or change the scale of the artistic world, that is, the depicted one. In the Yurii Klen’s prose, ornamental poetics is distinguished by the associativity of thoughts, images, the sophistication of sayings, the richness of metaphors and other artistic devices of representation. Lyrical prose of the writer reveals the position, attitude of the narrator to his perception of the environment, society, life, his thoughts, feelings and experiences.","PeriodicalId":255187,"journal":{"name":"Current issues of linguistics and translations studies","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115088131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to phrases, telescopes, and word formation, American phraseology includes acronyms and affixes. Metaphors and metonymy are used to create innovative American phraseology. Metaphor is a necessary means of expression in language because it is inherent in human thinking and language. Metaphor is a powerful means of expressing symbolic meanings. The uniqueness of metaphorical transfers lies in the possibility of creating features that have no analogues in the system of means of direct nomination. The image-analytical structure of the metaphor allows to convey the meaning of any degree of complexity and semantic configuration. Metaphor arises in the assimilation of one phenomenon to another on the basis of semantic similarity of states, properties and actions that characterize these phenomena. From a formal point of view, metaphorical transfer is the use of a word (phrase, sentence) intended to denote certain objects (situations). Innovative American phraseology is dominated by phrases and their number is 148. New phraseology is the predominant trend in the process of creating new words, telescope 35, word formation also occupies an important place word formation and has 25. In the process of word formation of new words affixation of 11 words is also used, abbreviation 2 words and abbreviations 2. In summary, the main way to create new words in innovative American phraseology in economics and business is new phraseology, which we believe will be the leading way to create innovative American phraseology in the next decade, pushing telescopes to second place. Phrases are the leading way to create innovative American phrases in economics and business, and word formation and telescope are not left out. Analyzing phraseology in this area by semantic analysis, metaphor is most often observed, followed by irony and metonymy. In our opinion, it is advisable to determine in which areas it is formed, to analyze its features.","PeriodicalId":255187,"journal":{"name":"Current issues of linguistics and translations studies","volume":"44 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120877032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The formation of the author as a personality, her participation in the protest movement against the Soviet regime are traced. The works and the leading theme of Lina Kostenko’s work, the peculiarities of her style are systematised. The characteristic stylistic devices as well as linguistic means of the poetry by Lina Kostenko are outlined. The main attention is focused on the translation of the Lina Kostenko’s poems done by the Austrian literary critic and translator Alois Woldan. The German translation of Kostenko’s poetry published in the bilingual German-Ukrainian collection “I znovu proloh” (en. “Prologue Again”) is analysed, the main translation strategies and methods are determined. Lina Kostenko is a consummate Ukrainian poet, an extraordinary, independed, unique and uncompromising figure, who, unlike other Ukrainians, does not need to ‘rise from her knees’, since under no circumstances she would kneel down. The comprehensive study of Lina Kostenko’s work, her unique authorial voice, theme of works and their linguistic implementation are topical today. Only few translators dared to translate the works of Lina Kostenko, because it is really a difficult task. So, we can only welcome the attempt of the Austrian literary critic and translator Alois Woldan to reproduce the poetic language of this outstanding Ukrainian poet. Lina Kostenko’s lyrics are exquisitely simple, but this simplicity is achieved by the perfection of all components of the poetic work – by concise wording, its aphoristic presentation, immaculate rhyme, semantic condensation of every word, variety of rhythms. Lina Kostenko has no words only for the sake of rhyme, everything sounds natural, logical, without haste. Man is the main character of her work, man as a part of nature, of the universe. If there is no dignity, inner harmony, understanding with the world around us, then this world around us disappears or degenerates into the “atomic black candle” of Chernobyl. The German translation of Kostenko’s poetry by Alois Woldan solves an extremely difficult combination of preserving the form and the content in the target text.","PeriodicalId":255187,"journal":{"name":"Current issues of linguistics and translations studies","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124243337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yemets","doi":"10.31891/2415-7929-2022-23-10","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31891/2415-7929-2022-23-10","url":null,"abstract":"The paper considers the types and reasons of using such technique of translation as modulation. Modulation is defined as a variation through a change of viewpoint in the target text. This technique is investigated on the basis of the Ukrainian translations of the classical prose and poetry of the 19-20th centuries. Two major types of modulation are singled out: the substitution of cause by effect and the change of the point of view. In the translation of prose texts by D. Thomas and A. Lawrence both types are used, thus revealing the creative approach and the ability to imagine the described situation. The use of modulation is determined by the described situation and the use of extended metaphors. Literal translation is not relevant in this case, as it does not reveal the emotional state of the main character. In such case the subject of the source-text sentence becomes the object in the target-text utterance. A somewhat different approach can be applied in discussing poetry translation. The analysis of translations of E. Poe’s and R. Kipling’s poems by such outstanding people as D. Palamarchuk and M. Strikha shows that both varieties of modulation are used to retain the rhyme and reduce the number of words in the lines. In the analyzed poems the technique of modulation is applied in rendering extended metaphors as well as antithesis to increase the emotional effect. Modulation is one of the features of Maxim Strikha’s style of poetry translation. By means of this technique, the translator foregrounds the main idea of the sentence (stanza) – the idea of strong love (E. Poe), of nobleness and decency (R. Kipling).","PeriodicalId":255187,"journal":{"name":"Current issues of linguistics and translations studies","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124730404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Torchynska, Mykhailo Torchynckyi","doi":"10.31891/2415-7929-2022-23-11","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31891/2415-7929-2022-23-11","url":null,"abstract":"One of the common and sacred genres of the confessional style is prayer as a way of uniting man with God in order to thank, ask, accept, repent, and so on. Linguistic features of prayers, both those that are a direct expression of religious style and those that function in the structure of literary texts, at different times became the object of study for many scientists, but the structure of addresses in prayers was not studied, what determined the relevance of the topic of the article. The purpose of the study is to analyze the structure of addresses as an integral part of prayers that represents an indirect speech in the confessional style. Realization of the set purpose provides for enforcement of such tasks: 1) to characterize the basic aspects of the functioning of confessional style, to define a place of prayer as a genre in it; 2) to describe the structure of addresses, which are separated from prayers, in order to determine the most productive constructions. From our point of view, the most significant feature of indirect speech is the presence of addresses, because in prayers stylistic and expressive possibilities of vocatives are manifested in a special way. Firstly, speakers with a particular problem ask God, the Virgin, angels, saints, etc, who can help them. Moreover, they address repeatedly, often using synonyms or variant names. Secondly, such addresses are codified, and commonplace, because prayers provide for the use of standard texts that believers must remember. Thirdly, the subjects of addressing constructions very often have additional means of dissemination, including literal meanings, homogeneous Apposition, separate members of a sentence, and even predicative units, which are rarely recorded in other speech patterns. It is on this basis that all addresses recorded by us in Orthodox prayers are classified into three groups: 1) simple or unextended (36.12 %: nouns, substantivized adjectives, and Participle that mostly have religious character); 2) extended uncomplicated or two-component (21.81 %: mostly models «adjective + noun», «noun + adjective», «noun + noun» and «noun + pronoun» and «noun + pronoun», the components of which often are also sacred); 3) extended complicated or multicomponent (42.07 %). There are several ways to complicate vocative phrases: to add apposition to the addresses, to use homogeneous addresses, and as a means of complicating – dependent homogeneous members of the sentence (mostly Attributes), separate members of the sentence, tautological expressions, and more. One of the characteristic features of prayers is the presence of addresses complicated by sentences, and also complex syntactic constructions).","PeriodicalId":255187,"journal":{"name":"Current issues of linguistics and translations studies","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130854483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
