Most existing scheduling designs for UAV ad-hoc networks are based on traditional physical layer techniques, such as half-duplex radios without multi-packet reception capability. However, recent advances in interference cancellation and signal processing techniques can enable full-duplex radios (FDR) and multi-packet reception (MPR) capability, which will have significant impacts on the design of link layer algorithm, especially scheduling. In this paper, we study the distributed scheduling issue in UAV ad-hoc networks with FDRs and MPR capability. The distributed scheduling problem in the presence of perfect and imperfect channel state information are formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem and a discrete stochastic optimization problem, respectively. Simulation results show that physical layer FDR and MPR capability have significant impacts on the performance of UAV ad-hoc networks. We also investigate the convergence property of proposed scheme and the effect of channel estimiation errors.","PeriodicalId":254708,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the second ACM international symposium on Design and analysis of intelligent vehicular networks and applications","volume":"PP 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126406306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the limited network bandwidth of the client server approach, research works are now turning toward mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET)-based streaming. MANET-based streaming is considered challenging due to the limitation of the wireless medium. Moreover, given that the 3D data is distributed among peers, finding a suitable supplying partner is not considered an easy task. In this paper, we propose a supplying partner selection technique coupled with a content delivery technique for MANET-based 3D streaming. We refer to our protocol as MULTIPLY. The performance evaluation of MULTIPLY obtained using an extensive set of simulation experiments is then reported.","PeriodicalId":254708,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the second ACM international symposium on Design and analysis of intelligent vehicular networks and applications","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124649559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, wireless cooperative communication networks are vulnerable to the attacks initiated on relays. Although applying authentication protocols can secure cooperative communication when the selected relay is malicious, better system throughput could be obtained without executing authentication protocol when the selected relay is free from attacker's attack. In this paper, a game theoretic approach is proposed to quantitatively analyze the attacking strategies of the attacker who chooses one relay to attack so as to make rational decision on relay selection and extent of applying authentication protocols, which reaches the trade-off between system security requirement and quality of service (QoS) in wireless cooperative communication networks.","PeriodicalId":254708,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the second ACM international symposium on Design and analysis of intelligent vehicular networks and applications","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131587110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed smart microhybrid system can accurately measure the amount of fuel that is saved by stopping engine idling and estimates the amount of fuel that is consumed when the engine begins to start. It automatically determines when is optimal to stop or start the engine using various driving status. The system was implemented and tested in a used car. Experimental results show that it outperforms conventional cars not equipped with the smart microhybrid system in fuel economy. We will massively reduce CO2 by using smart microhybrid systems and prove the possibility of the CDM (clean development mechanism) project.","PeriodicalId":254708,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the second ACM international symposium on Design and analysis of intelligent vehicular networks and applications","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130061586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of the complexity of traffic behaviours, the generation of vehicular traces is one of the biggest challenges in VANETs research. This paper consolidates the current state-of-the art on vehicular mobility generators into three aspects: mobility models, traffic demand model and route assignment method as well as provide and overview of existing generators. The main part of the paper focuses on the improvement of traces generated by the VehiLux model over the city of Luxembourg. The quality of a large set of traces is assessed by the means of realistic traffic simulation and a proposed fitness metric. The influence of the implementation of the Gawron's algorithm---route assignment method on the quality of generated traces is evaluated.","PeriodicalId":254708,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the second ACM international symposium on Design and analysis of intelligent vehicular networks and applications","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127776690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It uses a hybrid context model; spatial model for service filtering, ontology model for context reasoning and knowledge sharing, markup model for file exchange, and situational model for safety and convenience services. Its VANET OWL ontology managed by Jena semantic web framework succeeded in formalizing the semantics of VANET context domain and heightened the system abstraction level. Relevance of dispatched information to prospective recipients is enhanced by employing IR techniques and partial relevance. For commercial services, we used the hybrid vehicular communication (HVC) to increase the decentralized processing, exploit the vehicle processing power and increase user satisfaction and privacy. V2V is used for safety and convenience services where the level of abstraction has increased by using high level situation context attributes. In addition, more precise application notifications are now feasible after improving reasoning about situation certainty and severity. Hence, the main novelty of VANET IR-CAS is that it provides a highly abstract hybrid context model with IR based processing that raises the notification relevance, certainty and precision beside increasing decentralization and user satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":254708,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the second ACM international symposium on Design and analysis of intelligent vehicular networks and applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130974100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The protocols developed for the wireless mobile networks and particularly for WSN cannot be applied directly to vehicular networks due to the high mobility and the frequent disconnection especially in the highway. Therefore, the design of an efficient protocol is depending firstly on the use of an efficient technique for medium access and secondly on a correct data delivery. In this paper, we propose a data collection protocol based on clustering and on he use of a dynamic medium access technique. This protocol is based on acknowledged delivery and allows retransmission of data in the case of loss or errors. We present simulation results which show the feasibility, the effectiveness and the robustness of our proposed protocol.","PeriodicalId":254708,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the second ACM international symposium on Design and analysis of intelligent vehicular networks and applications","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128977193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have been identified as a key enabling technology for monitoring road conditions and providing early warning messages to drivers about any dangers that may be present. In order to ensure that the end-to-end goals of such a WSN are achieved, this paper proposes a cognitive framework based on the mathematical tools known as Weighted Cognitive Maps (WCM) and Q-learning. WCM is used to design a reasoning machine that can consider multiple conflicting constraints with low complexity. On the other hand, the Q-learning algorithm is used to design a learning protocol that can build a knowledge base which enables the WCM system to make more informed decisions. Thus, a reward system is developed that directly addresses the end-to-end goals of the system. The performance of the cognitive framework is evaluated using extensive computer simulations and compared to state of the art systems. Simulation results show significant performance improvements with the proposed cognitive framework.","PeriodicalId":254708,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the second ACM international symposium on Design and analysis of intelligent vehicular networks and applications","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126821459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
