They are trying hard to transform to digital libraries (DL) but there are various issues involved in it. It is crucial to understand these issues by doing more research to find out appropriate solutions. The purpose of this study is thus to review the existing research done on digital libraries, in order to find the gaps and develop new dimensions to be studied. Secondary data is used from different sources mainly e-journals to conduct meta-analysis on selected papers. The findings show that the research studies can be broadly categorized into five dimensions viz Uses and users issues in DL, organizational design and structure of DL, technology usage, usability, and staff and people's perception of DL. It is unique as the dimensions have been derived for the first time, which gives a direction to do research on the unidentified or unexplored areas like gender-blind approaches in implementing digital technologies. Further research can be done to include those research issues, which have not been covered so far.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122144827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The key components of Digital Asset Management have been defined by van Niekerk, one of the key commentators on the subject, as all of those tasks needed to allow the ingest, annotation, cataloguing, storage, retrieval and distribution of digital assets. This paper will particularly look to Ranganathan's Five Laws of Library Science and subsequent attempts to re-write them for the digital age as the conceptual framework within which such an analysis can take place. By examining the core principles on which library science is built, it is argued that the principles of digital asset management are firmly embedded within these and that an overlap and ever-increasing convergence between the two disciplines is inevitable.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124573660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Descriptive Research Method (Case Study of NIT Library Users) was adopted using self designed questionnaire incorporating some modification from the previous study conducted on usage of e-resources available under UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium by Sinha (2010) [1]. The study was conducted on NIT Library Users which comprises of faculty members, Research Scholars, UG and PG Students perusing Engineering and Management Courses. The study comprises of administration of questionnaires to the participants for knowing their skills in accessing information/e-resources for their academic and research activities. Altogether 180 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents and 132 responses were received. The study was conducted during the period February to June 2013. The data collected from the administered questionnaire were analysed, tabulated and represented in graphical form using Microsoft Excel. The study shows that most of the respondents are aware of the INDEST-Consortium and are using e-resources, mainly the e-journals, frequently for seeking information. While analyzing data, it has been found that maximum users are using equally printed and electronic resources for their academic purposes. It is interesting to note that majority of users under study prefer e-resources while only a few of them prefer printed resources. Majority of respondents have suggested that the authority should provide adequate Internet Terminals with high speed of bandwidth for optimum utilisation of e-resources available under INDEST-AICTE Consortia.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128737111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These systems have shown a great benefit in the field of e-commerce, which provide details of users with all related information. Many similar models are being proposed for information systems. But these models cannot be directly fitted into the field of digital library system to acquire the benefits of recommendation system. So to overcome this we have proposed a tagging based evolving recommendation system for a digital library management system for user and library administration.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117287198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed computing seems as more promising in terms of request failure, security, flexibility and resource availability. It's main feature is to maintain the Quality of Service (QoS) provided to the end user in term of request processing power, request failure rate and many more. So resource management is important and maintaining least replication of resources and high security are of primary importance. To fulfill the above discussed parameters a aggregator based Distributed Digital Library System Integration model is proposed, to connect Digital library of different institutes of same organization.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130124403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach uses the rules of the learning style instrument(LSI) designed by Marlene Lefever which is based on the McCarthy Model. There are e-learning system which detect the learning style of a particular learner in a crisp manner. Due to the fuzzy nature of the learner a fuzzy approach is used to decide the learning style of the learner. The proposed method has used the McCarthy Model as a tool to detect the learning style of the student. This increase the efficiency of the learning because most of the systems are based on the notion that each student has only one learning style which is not true.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122382824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
