Electronic documents and resources have changed the entire paradigm of education and research. Students, teachers, professionals, academicians and researchers may get their information on their desktop/laptop/Smartphone through electronic platform. The availability of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and their use has also produced some challenges amongst the library professionals to make optimum use of information resources available. It has been observed that in spite of awareness programs, several e-resources are being underutilized or less used. There are several tools which may be used to raise the usage of e-resources to the maximum. One of them is QR Code technology. Quick Response codes are basically made for product promotion more likely as Bar-codes. In this paper a working model is presented which can be used in the Libraries to maximize the usage of e-books and other products and services of the Library.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125548255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In today's competitive world plagiarism is spreading at a tenacious rate. Scientific writing requires good expertise for it demands both features: vividness and terseness, which are generally hard to accomplish together. Any scientific work should be characterized by clear expression, concise content, accurate facts, and perhaps most importantly, honest and objective narrative. The principle reason behind the steep evolution of plagiarism seems to be lack of awareness along with the presence of fierce competition. Several students and other academicians have a misconception that they either won't get caught or there would be little or no long-term effects for plagiarizing other people's content. This paper highlights the menace of plagiarism with some case studies and the means to curb it effectively with the help of educational seminars for especially young researchers. We also discuss the results of surveys conducted after organizing the seminars for plagiarism awareness. As per survey results, most of the students were not even aware about plagiarism earlier, but after the seminar, their understanding of plagiarism issues and its consequences enhanced, and they felt highly motivated against it.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116244744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plagiarism has been around for centuries, but with the use of Internet and easy access to material in electronic format has made it easier to plagiarize materials of others. On the other hand plagiarism detection is now as easy as plagiarizing a document. There are a number of anti-plagiarism software available either freely or commercially, which can be used for plagiarism detection. But the commercial softwares are too expensive. So it is not affordable for an individual to purchase those softwares. This paper highlights the plagiarism detection softwares which are freely available online, that can be downloaded free of cost. It is suggested that faculty members and research scholars can use these anti plagiarism softwares in checking their thesis or research papers before submitting to universities or conferences. Identifying the plagiarized content has become one of the major concerns of journals publishers, research center and conferences organisers. The software that are mentioned and referred to in this paper are all valuable resources to discover plagiarized materials. By employing these softwares one can ascertain that none of the articles, documents or research work in any form and capacity, is not plagiarized and thereby the copyright of the publisher and the authors are not violated. Plagiarism can destroy any one's career and this paper creates awareness of plagiarism softwares among research scholars, faculty members and helps them to have successful academic careers in future by avoiding plagiarism.","PeriodicalId":253780,"journal":{"name":"2015 4th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129883294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
