We carefully exploit the unitary structure of the orthogonal STBC to design a low com- plexity differential STBC receiver for multi-carrier broadband cooperative networks. We consider amplify-and-forward relaying and assume a single-relay scenario. Under the assumption of perfect power control for the relay terminal and high signal-to- noise ratio for the underlying links, our performance analysis demonstrates that the considered scheme is able to exploit fully the spatial diversity. We further present Monte Carlo simulation results to confirm our analytical observations.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133088389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modulated signal has multidimensional constellation waveforms. The optimal receiver must perform a multidimensional matched filtering on its front-end. This operation is highly demanding on the processing computational resources. We derive sub-optimal complexity reducing receiver linear preprocessor which reduces the dimensionality of the signal. We analytically derive the optimal linear projector matrix for several cases of the free trellis path and its termination. The determinant optimization is shown to lead to an eigenvector problem solution. It is a two-fold joint optimization problem with 2 mutually coupled domains (similar to a decoding in a parametric channel) with number of solution options with generally high complexity. We adopt simplified approach decoupling this 2 domains. As an example, we apply the procedure for a particular case of one-dimensional subspace projector and Burst Alamouti coded MSK modulation as a special case of STC CPM modulation.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125198492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While optimal in static channels, we first show that the conventional single tap OFDM equalizer is not satisfying even at moderate terminal speeds of 60km/h. We then study the performance of linear sliding window equalizers in the Wimax context before focusing on decision feedback equalizers (DFE). Based on our analysis, we propose a new DFE equalizer using sliding window that offers a good trade off between performance and complexity. INTRODUCTION There are currently two versions of the Wimax standard: while 802.16d (1) has been designed for fixed broadband wireless access based on an OFDM waveform, 802.16e (2) has been designed for mobile broadband wireless access with explicit mobility support based on an OFDMA waveform.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131063173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PMIPv6 is a protocol that uses the same concepts as used in Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), but modified to operate in the network part only instead of involving the Mobile Node (MN) as well. PMPv6 is claimed to posses a number of advantages over the host based mobility management protocols in use today, above all MIPv6. The main advantage of using PMIPv6 is the freeing up of the mobile host in doing any mobility related activities and thereby saving its resources. The saving of resources may result in their usage for other purposes or even enable otherwise capabilities restricted devices to operate in the PMIPv6 domains. Other advantages include reduced signaling traffic volume and no tunneled packets in the access network. These aspects become very important since the access networks in mobile networks usually are air interfaces. Further, PMIPv6 is also becoming a very attractive mobility management protocol for mobile network operators as seen by its inclusion in current 3 rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standardization as a possible alternative mobility management protocol for the Long Term Evolution (LTE) technologies. In addition to qualitative analyses and comparisons, the work attempts to quantify these advantages to show the achieved benefits. The quantifications are done through measurements in a real test-bed which is installed with a PMIPv6 implementation developed as part of this work.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132821877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, innovation also means that intellectual property (IP) is created, which is valuable to third (potentially) untrusted and malicious parties. In particular, automobiles are already suffering from security issues, such as illegal copying of software IP, counterfeiting of electronic components, illegal tampering with digital data inside the electronic control units (ECUs), etc. Recently, physical unclonable functions (PUFs) attracted significant interest for numerous applications such as protection of software and hardware IP, secure key storage and component identification, to name a few. In this paper, we describe how PUFs can be used for secure key storage, component identification, IP protection in vehicle applications, and their suitability for vehicle insurance applications.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132998358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By suitable Hybrid Data Fusion (HDF) algorithms by combining the information from GNSS and terrestrial cellular networks, the estimated position accuracy can be improved. However the investigations of the channel modeling for joint GNSS and terrestrial mobile radio based localization have not been studied yet. Therefore, a joint measurement for GNSS at 1.5GHz and terrestrial radio at 5.2GHz was performed. In this paper, the channel analyses of the outdoor to indoor channel for the joint localization are presented. It turns out to be that the ToA error is depending on the elevation angle of incoming rays. A joint comparison between two carrier frequencies is also addressed.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133494050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a novel antenna shuffling method based on the criterion of minimizing the condition number of channel correlation matrix. The condition number is an indicator about the quality of the channel. By selecting the minimum of condition number which has better channel quality, consequently, a linear detector with respect to this new channel may achieve better performance results. A low complexity variant of the condition number calculation is also proposed, and it is shown that this criterion can be reduced to the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed technique even in highly spatial correlated frequency selective MIMO fading channels.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133304778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The bit error rate (BER) expressions of the OSTBC-OFDM system is derived for each transmit-receive antenna configuration in the presence of phase noise and channel estimation errors. With emphasis on complex signal constellations, we further investigate the effect of doppler on the performance of OSTBC- OFDM for different code rates R :1 /2 ≤ R ≤ 1, including maximal-rate OSTBC codes. A key research topic is to design efficient and reliable Physical Downlink Control Channels (PDCCHs) that carry the downlink scheduling assignments and uplink scheduling grants. A number of issues regarding the design and analysis of PDCCHs are discussed in this paper, such as the PDCCH interleaver, power boosting, power lending, receiver handling of power boosting with unknown boosting values, link level performance evaluation, and system level performance evaluation. Based on mathematical analysis and/or simulations, conclusions have been reached, including the adoption of the simple subblock interleaver to achieve desired interference randomization property; power boosting and power boosting limits; and a method of handling power boosting values unknown to the receiver in system simulations. These conclusions have been utilized to develop the LTE standards or adopted in LTE standards.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132174555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The classical PSO schemes with either synchronous or asynchronous updates of the swarm and a global topology are considered and appropriately modified by introducing a tournament selection strategy in order to increase search pressure and make the algorithm speed up convergence. Results comparing both classical and HPSO schemes are included and the pros and cons of the hybrid approach proposed are reported and discussed. The synthesis of the complex element weights to best meet certain far-field radiation pattern restrictions given in terms of 3D-masks has been considered as the canonical problem. Furthermore, representative synthesis results for a planar array to be considered as a 120 degrees sectored antenna for local multipoint distribution systems (LMDS) are also included. Modern heuristic optimization methods such as simulated annealing (SA), genetic algorithms (GA), ant colony optimization (ACO) and more recently particle swarm optimization (PSO), have received great attention among the scientific community in many applications and research areas during the last decade, demonstrating throughout the literature its ability to cope with high-dimensional and multimodal optimization problems (1). Among these techniques, the PSO algorithm has gained many practitioners as it turns out to be easier to implement and tune than other population-based methods such as GA, (2-4). The three main advantages of the heuristic PSO algorithm against GA concern the simplicity of implementation, the use of only one operator -the velocity operator- and the smaller number of parameters to be set and tuned. Similar in nature to other stochastic methods, the PSO algorithm emulates computationally the behavior of groups such as bird flocking or fish schooling from the interaction of the individuals among themselves and with the environment (5). Moreover, different classical schemes can be proposed and found in the literature, classified and differentiated depending on how and when the information concerning new promising regions visited by any of the individuals, particles or agents throughout the optimization process, is transmitted to the rest of the swarm, (2, 6). Basically, depending on how the information flows, i.e. the instant the new discoveries or improvements achieved by any particle within the swarm is available for the rest of the population, either synchronous or asynchronous PSO schemes can be considered. Finally, depending on how each particle becomes influenced by the experience acquired by its neighbors, several swarm topologies can be outlined (2, 4, 7), although in this work the global topology is only considered. Similar in some aspects to human cultural behavior, the global topology PSO scheme means that any par","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132652922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
