In this paper, we propose an adaptive feedback method that can significantly reduce the amount of channel feedback information when a femto base station (BS) and mobile stations (MS) communicate in the band AMC mode. Since the channel variation of the MS in the femto cell is relatively small, instead of informing the femto BS of the channel quality information (CQI) periodically, MSs only send CQI feedback to the femto BS when channel condition changes above a threshold. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce feedback overhead up to 70 % without resulting in system throughput degradation compared to the conventional best-M feedback scheme.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"391 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116369321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The information to be transmitted at the source node is composed of relayed information and non-relayed information. They interfere with each other in the existing scheme when the relay node forwards the relayed information and simultaneously the source node transmits the non-relayed information. In order to improve the transmission reliability, we propose two schemes where the source node chooses the non-relayed information codeword in terms of dirty paper coding (DPC). In Scheme 1, DPC technique is applied during the listening phase; and in Scheme 2, DPC technique is applied during the cooperative phase. Specially, we discuss the capacity behaviors of the proposed schemes and compare them with the baseline, namely the capacity behaviors of the existing scheme without the application of DPC technique. The corresponding numerical results prove that both proposed schemes outperform the existing scheme in the sense of capacity performance.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121467216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Power control via channel inversion is common practice in the uplink of cellular systems as it maintains constant received signal power at the controlling base station (BS) regardless of the position of the mobile station (MS). Unlike the conventional cellular system, CBSs share information in detecting the MSs and they are shown to increase the system capacity. We propose a power control approach based on sustaining the total received power in CBSs. We investigate the performance of this method through simulations and show that it reduces the intercell interference in the CBS systems, saves power and improves the BER performance in both coded and uncoded scenarios.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124342872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our goal is to minimize the information out- age probability by properly selecting one out of several available antenna elements at the source node. This problem is generally more involved than transmit antenna selection for conventional single-hop systems since the selection of a certain antenna element affects always both the source-to-relay as well as the source-to- destination link. The various schemes that we present are based upon different kinds of channel state information and we analyze all of them in terms of the achievable outage probability as well as the asymptotic behavior in the high SNR regime. In this paper, we propose and analyze various strategies for selecting an appropriate transmit antenna at the source node of a cooperative diversity system with a regenerative decode-and- forward relay. The different schemes are based upon different kinds of channel state information (csi) and they are optimal in terms of minimizing the outage probability between source and destination conditioned on the available csi. We derive generic expressions for the corresponding outage performance for arbitrary channel distributions and we explicitly present closed-form expressions for the important case of Rayleigh fading on all links. Furthermore, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of all schemes in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime and we quantify the achievable diversity order.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124510787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Measurements have been carried out in non-line-of-sight (NLOS) and line-of-sight (LOS) using a dual-polarized transmitter and a tri-polarized receiver. The spatial and delay characteristics are extracted using a per-tap beamforming algorithm. Distinct waves are isolated and the polarization of each wave is expressed in terms of its spherical components. The evolution of the waves polarization is investigated as function of its physical propagation parameters. The polarization of the waves is shown to be sensitive to spatial characteristics, while being insensitive to delay. Direct line-of-sight rays show to have higher XPD than in the NLOS case, while the reflected rays have a similar XPD than in a NLOS case.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128092002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A major drawback of PTS method is its higher computation complexity due to the necessity of larger number of inverse fast Fourier transforms (IFFT). The PTS method with low computation complexity, called decomposition PTS sub-blocking was proposed [1] which employs the radix-*- inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) for the signals at the middle stages of an TV-point radix-*- IFFT and decimation in frequency (DIF) domain. This method (DIF-IFFT) can reduce the computation complexity relatively while providing PAPR reduction similar to other PTS techniques. On the other hand, PTS method can improve PAPR reduction performance very well as increasing a number of weighting factors and clusters. However, the size of side information proportionally increases as increasing the number of weighting factors or/and clutters, which are required to inform the side information to the receiver for recovering the original data. In this paper, we propose the new weighting factor technique in conjunction with D-PTS sub-blocking technique which can improve both the PAPR performance and computation complexity without any increasing of side information.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121935986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This protocol does not provide any recovery mechanism for multicast frames. As a result, transmitted multicast frames may be lost due to collisions or errors. Recently, several reliable multicast protocols at MAC layer have been proposed for 802.11. They can be classified into two categories: one is based on negative feedback (NFB-based) and the other is based on positive feedback (PFB-based). After analyzing the problems with existing reliable multicast MAC protocols, we propose a novel PFB-based multicast protocol, namely DPMM (Double Piggyback Mode Multicast). The protocol piggybacks the ACK in the CTS frame and piggybacks the priority information in the DATA frames. With DPMM, ACK packets are eliminated and collisions of control frames are avoided. A grouping algorithm using RSS (Received signal strength) measurement is also developed to further improve upon DPMM. Simulation results, using the OPNET, confirm that the improvements are encouraging.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122284702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When assuming full knowledge of the channel state informa- tion at the transmitter, a vector perturbation (VP) is a promising precoding scheme that approaches sum capacity and has simple receiver. However, its encoding is nondeterministic polynomial time (NP)-hard problem. In the MU-MIMO downlink, this encoding problem becomes harder because the proper user selection must be considered. In this paper, we propose a new vector perturbation scheme based on eigenvalue normalization (VPEVN), which converts the NP-hard problem into a channel condition-based finite integer problem, resulting in a reduction of encoding complexity. In addition, it can select a good user set by simple maximum norm criterion owing to its orthogonalization effect. The bounds are obtained for three different nonregenerative relaying schemes. The lower bounds for the BER are obtained using the moment generating function (MGF) approach by evaluating the MGF of the end-to-end equivalent signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the system. From the BER expressions obtained, we also show that the diversity order for the MIMO relay cooperative system with each relay having M antennas increases approximately by a factor M from that of a system with single-antenna relays. Simulation results confirm that the analytical expressions for the lower bounds are very tight and can thus be used to get approximate values of the BER.","PeriodicalId":253546,"journal":{"name":"VTC Spring 2009 - IEEE 69th Vehicular Technology Conference","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132113313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
