The value of lost load (VoLL) is a monetary indicator expressing the costs associated with power supply interruption in €/MWh. This paper quantifies the VoLL of Italian consumers through outage cost surveys, following the adoption of the EU Clean Energy Package which introduces a new methodology for measuring VoLL. The results of the study confirm that the concept itself of VoLL has many limitations and that its direct usage for investment decisions (e.g. Capacity Markets design, Cost Benefit analyses, …) must be carefully weighted. This intrinsic limitation of the VOLL concept will be more and more relevant in the years to come, when – as a consequence of progressive electrification of final energy uses – our quality of life will be almost completely dependent on 24/7 power availability.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129920180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, validating the performance of such technologies is not trivial. Despite extensive laboratory evaluation, the performance of the technology while integrated in the electrical grid can vary depending on several electrical factors, e.g. grid impedance. For this reason, the early testing of such technologies in realistic grid conditions play an important role. This paper provides a description of the Power Hardware In the Loop laboratory at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and shows its capability in realistic testing energy technologies.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124322418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They present themselves as an innovative entity in the national and international energy landscape capable of contributing to the energy transition process through locally produced energy, its self-consumption and sharing with energy community users. Local energy communities are considered an empowerment tool for end users who take charge of the distributed production and management of the energy asset, but in order for the energy asset to be put to its best, most efficient and effective use, it is necessary to develop key performance indices that are also easily understood by community members, whether they are elderly, young people, private companies, public entities, etc., and to which it is immediate to react with proactive behaviour in order to maximize their economic benefits, which, of course, translate locally into environmental and social benefits. In this context, the manuscript presents some performance indices that can be used to achieve the above goals. An energy community case study is discussed to show the purpose and usefulness of the proposed metrics.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"520 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123131176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the distribution grid may not be always capable to provide such high levels of power in every area. From this prospect, recharging pools equipped with battery storage system provide the opportunity to limit the maximum power request to the grid, avoiding the need for an upgrade to the grid connection. This solution can be implemented by means of various configuration depending on the storage system size and the relative energy management, leading to different costs. This paper carries out a technical and economic analysis of a high-power recharging pool connected to the low voltage distribution network and equipped with a stationary storage system. A simulation model developed in Modelica language is used to compare three different storage configurations. Results indicate that a peak shaving BESS is the most feasible solution. It is also observed that a reduced size would improve the profitability of the investment, supporting the EV recharge with a reasonable additional waiting time.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126314637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SPEC is designed to use only reactive power for the voltage compensation and permits to reduce cost of operation and maintenance, even though it can impose some operating limits. In literature, works on single phase SPEC related to operating principle, limitations and devices control for compensation of network voltage under load and renewable energy variations are presented. However, works related to its active power management to meet its device losses are often not considered and seldom presented in the literature. In this work, for single phase SPEC to manage the compensation and at the same time its device active power needs, analytical and graphical analysis models are presented from a generic theoretical approach along with the imminent boundary conditions for the device operation.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126457501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to do that, flexibility must be identified, quantified and exploited. The flexibility might be exploited through the control of the manufacturing processes and/or by designing other flexibility options, such as energy storage systems (electric, thermal and compressed air) or controlling the logistic sector if it is electrified. Within the ERA-NET Project \"MESH4U,\" the flexibility of an industrial facility is used both for operating the facility as a Net-Zero Energy Factory and to react to signals sent from a central flexibility hub. The aim of the study is to present the MESH4U demonstrator by pointing out the solutions developed for identifying, quantifying and exploiting the flexibility and how such flexibility could be used to better integrate the power generated by volatile RES.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131711588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To support the penetration of renewable energy and more efficient thermoelectric generation, HVDCs (VSC technology) offer many advantages in terms of flexibility, stability of the grid and system controllability.The present paper describes the HVDC project named \"Tyrrhenian Link\" which connects Sardinia with Sicily and Sicily with the Italian peninsula. Carried out studies evidenced the crucial importance of the Tyrrhenian Link project in the next future to guarantee the adequacy standard for Sicily and Sardinia, considering the forthcoming coal phase-out and avoiding further new thermoelectric capacity in these Regions. Moreover, static and dynamic analyses emphasize the essential contribution of the new planned project both to the dynamic stability and to the security of supply in case of HV grid contingencies, showing the fundamental role of this new project for the Italian electrical system of the future. Performed comparative analysis shows that the optimal solution from economic and operation point of view is the Tyrrhenian Link full configuration.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"383 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124763614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accordingly, in the present paper, a smart strategy for the cooling of a data center located in southern Italy is presented. The strategy makes use of the ambient temperatures, variable load, and the temperature of a geothermal well to define the most efficient operating modes for the generators in the data center. The model represents the cornerstone for the integration of the data center cooling into an electrical-thermal grid for the surrounding buildings.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125354839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is a crucial challenge that the automotive field is currently facing. In addition, the establishment of fast and reliable communication technologies, such as 5G, and potential information regarding adherence conditions through smart tyres, are leading to a rapid evolution of a new generation of connected ADAS (C-ADAS). In this paper, a novel Connected Curve Speed Warning (CCSW) considering information coming from 5G and smart tyres is developed. The system is eventually tested and compared to a non-equipped vehicle in a virtual environment considering different adherence conditions. Testing results show the advantages CCSW adds in terms of safety and driving stability.","PeriodicalId":253384,"journal":{"name":"2022 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126986868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
