These studies are based on the use of micro positioning systems for microelectrodes called micro drives. This article describes the design, development and assessment of a micro drive used for studying neural activity in rats. The proposed micro drive is actuated by a small piezoelectric ultrasonic motor and the motion transmission is achieved by a simple mechanism. The device incorporates a closed-loop position feedback control system to get accurate movements by means of a linear Hall-effect sensor. The proposed system has a stroke of 2064 micrometers and a resolution of 1.3 micrometers, it weighs 2.5 g and it is 10 mm long, 7.6 mm wide and 13 mm high.","PeriodicalId":252737,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Mechatronics, Electronics and Automotive Engineering","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126102699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to capture all color components (RGB), a light filter is located between the lens and the sensor, to separate the light and capture only one of these colors per pixel, this filter is known as Bayer filter. The resultant image contains the coded color components in two green pixels, one red pixel and one blue pixel per quartet, and a demosaicing process is needed to recover the coded color components. In this paper, we propose a novel methodology to perform this demosaicing on Bayer images, utilizing a higher order polynomial interpolation. We evaluate the second and third order polynomial, but, any order polynomial is easily implementable. Finally, we compare our method against well known methods such as simple interpolation demosiacing and nearest neighbor.","PeriodicalId":252737,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Mechatronics, Electronics and Automotive Engineering","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130003437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we realized and proposed three modifications to the Intersecting Cortical Model (ICM) Neural Network paradigm in order to measure how effective it becomes for edge detection on human brain images. The human brain images were obtained using Magnetic Resonance and Positron Emission Tomography. We compared the ICM outputs versus the outputs obtained from two well-known computer vision algorithms: Canny and Sobel. We observed that the modifications proposed to ICM produced better edge detection than the original paradigm. We include all the ICM variants details, the experiments, the evaluation criteria and the final results of the medical images edge detection recognition.","PeriodicalId":252737,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Mechatronics, Electronics and Automotive Engineering","volume":"199 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132640470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Parameters such as cost-efficient hardware components and high reliability performance were considered. Environmental variables considered for monitoring included: humidity, temperature, and CO2 gas. Physical wireless sensors were used to gather such information from different remote locations. By its properties, ZigBee technology was selected and tested on different topology to integrate the environmental monitoring sensor network with the production system. This integration was made using a standard client-server model; this allows achieving standardization, compatibility and accessibility of data from multiple applications or devices that support the standard.","PeriodicalId":252737,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Mechatronics, Electronics and Automotive Engineering","volume":"2019 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126009754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a fast content-based video retrieval system which involves the combination of a local descriptor obtained from the speeded-up robust feature algorithm together with an effective and fast object matching operation. To save computational time, compressed video data are partially decoded in order to get discrete cosine transform coefficients of key frames, which are used to obtain sub-block coefficients and a down-sampling version of frames. The preliminary results are ranking using an efficient color descriptor based on color correlogram and dominant color descriptors. To measure the performance of the proposed technique the precision and recall metrics are used. The experimental results show the accuracy of the proposed method applied to a database of Mexican Culture Heritage videos.","PeriodicalId":252737,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Mechatronics, Electronics and Automotive Engineering","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117028934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The controller was designed to interact from 1 to 6 Degrees Of Freedom (DOF) serial robotic arms, actuated by brushed DC servomotors equipped with incremental encoders. Controller architecture is based on four components: a processor, a reconfigurable FPGA, measurement I/O hardware and software. Functionality of the robotic controller has been proved by means of the interaction with an SCARA robot arm. The proposed controller presents the potential to teach technical courses (like Robotics, Control, Electronics and Programming) and to implement and validate advanced control algorithms.","PeriodicalId":252737,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Mechatronics, Electronics and Automotive Engineering","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123018090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
