They offer their production at a range of prices which vary from one hour of the day to another, and from one day of the week to another. We show that on average over a quarter producers received about the same revenue per MWh sold irrespective of fuel type. The average dropped from 70-75 euro per MWh in 2008 to as low as 25 euro in 2010 because of the global crisis then rose to about 50 euro in 2012 despite the increasing quantity of renewal energy and the stagnation of the demand.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129453660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different congestion management approaches are currently implemented by different TSOs. In this paper, we consider two market schemes. The first one considers the transmission constraints both on a day-ahead (DA) basis and in real-time (RT). This scheme is relevant to centralized markets. The second market scheme considers the transmission constraints only in RT, and is relevant to decentralized markets. We quantitatively compare the congestion management in these market schemes, in a power system with thermal and wind generation, as we vary (i) the share of thermal units, (ii) the wind penetration level, and (iii) the congestion level. For this purpose, we formulate a DA and a RT market model. The DA market is formulated as a two-stage stochastic optimization problem, and the RT market is formulated as a stochastic optimization problem with receding horizon that uses short-term wind power scenarios. We demonstrate the performance of the proposed scheme in the IEEE 24-bus Reliability Test System. The results show that as the share of inflexible units increases, and when congestion occurs, it is more efficient to implement the congestion management in the DA market. However, in systems with a large share of flexible units, the two congestion management schemes achieve similar results.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133261593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is confirmed that there has been a decrease of 1% in the average variation of insolation from 1961 to 2011 and a trend of lower rates in all seasons. Both the predicted and measured data have demonstrated the possibility of a reduced insolation or sustained lower levels in the coming quarters in most months, with likely direct consequences on climate change and, in those forms of power generation dependent on the climatic stability.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131781902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, renewable generating companies require a forecasting tool in order to predict the quantity of electricity that they will produce in the short-term future. This paper proposes a forecasting procedure for solar power producers, based on the multivariate exponential smoothing model and employing the solar radiation next-day forecast from an external agent. The model is estimated using the EM algorithm. The proposed method is general and can be straightforwardly implemented in any photovoltaic power producer. A case study is analyzed, using real data from the Spanish energy market, using the MAPE as comparison metric. Results denote that the developed algorithm is both numerically accurate and computationally efficient.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128547725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Benefit maximization in a microgrid is directly related with demand reactiveness and optimal allocation of local energy resources. Because those characteristics can be implemented through an Energy Management System (EMS), knowing the elements that conforms it and how they interact is crucial for the development of microgrids. This paper presents a caracterization of the EMS and some insight about the actual state on this subject. This is done to understand the mechanisms that allow efficient EMS implementations, thus shortening the path towards a power distribution microgeneration with higher short-term/mid-term benefits based on microgrid technology.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132769046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The diverse constraints of power plants are of particular concern in this regard, because their proper handling can be difficult even with advanced mathematical tools. For this purpose, the all-European PX [1] introduces complex orders which allow new conditions (Minimum Income, Scheduled Stop and Load Gradient Conditions) to be prescribed eventuating a more precise producer model for the clearing. Nevertheless, additional questions arise during actual implementation because several different mathematical formulations can be found for these novel bid types. This paper attempts to systematically explore the deficiencies and possibilities of complex orders beyond the scope of general description. Several modeling problems and proposals are inspected and evaluated with considerations on market theory, technical feasibility and mathematical programming.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134259218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To test the robustness of the results the additional explanatory variables (time trend and/or energy consumption) are added to the EKC model. The empirical study is carried out for the European Union countries divided into three groups depending on a level of knowledge advanced economies in order to explain the differences in the dynamic linkage between CO2 emissions and economic growth. We have found that the EKC hypothesis is valid for all high-level and some middle-level knowledge advanced economies. The addition of energy consumption or time trend to the EKC model has affected the results in terms of the presence of threshold cointegration with an asymmetric adjustment process. These results suggest that the EKC model should be estimated using an approach accounting for asymmetric adjustment.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132874685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper focuses on retail markets in which end-use customers can choose their supplier from competing electricity retailers. Most retailers negotiate the terms and conditions of electricity contracts directly with end-use customers, although they often oversimplify or ignore classical pricing policies encouraging discounts on quantity. This work aims at using autonomous software agents to help manage the complexity of retail markets. A particular end-use customer agent can negotiate a forward contract directly with a single retailer agent. More importantly, two or more end-use customers can ally into coalitions to strengthen their bargaining positions and negotiate better agreements. This paper presents several key features of software agents able to ally into coalitions and negotiate the terms and conditions of forward contracts. It also describes a case study involving a retailer agent and a coalition of three large industrial customers negotiating a three-rate tariff. The results indicate that coalition formation is beneficial to end-use customers - that is, the price agreed in the forward contract is more favorable to these agents.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122078937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study analyses a scenario where a significant fraction of target energy efficiency is achieved by obliging energy utilities to implement user-end energy efficiency measures. Investment related costs are likely to be included in the energy prices and service tariffs therefore gains for the users are under question. The authors analyze ways to achieve a balance between user gains from energy end-use savings and increased energy prices and tariffs as a result of obligations imposed upon energy utilities including the energy supply sectors where supply tariffs are regulated. Authors also have assessed the disadvantages of the current Latvian district heating regulation and have marked the next steps for a transition from hard regulation towards the approximation of benchmarking and market principles.","PeriodicalId":252103,"journal":{"name":"2015 12th International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125867681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
