Our proposal is based on a slightly different idea called Process-in-Network (PIN) defined as the possibility that the network processes information as it is being transmitted, seeking to take advantage of waiting times, idle processing capacity, and the information itself. In this article, the possible use of PIN in image processing and analysis applications is discussed. A simple image processing example is first presented to illustrate PIN concept, and then other possible application cases are also discussed, exploring the possibility of PIN to adapt a picture or video to different QoS requirements, and a character recognition application for the use of a transit department. A feedback mechanism could be implemented in order to dynamically adapt QoS or QoE for an specific user at the destination node. The approach here presented may be generalized not only for image processing applications but also for video processing, in which case it could be complemented with the use of other technologies and standards such as SVC and MapReduce.","PeriodicalId":251730,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing","volume":"359 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116133747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The geometries to analyze are typically very complexes and they could be simulated with a CAD model, that can include a fine level of details. This is reflected in a higher computational effort that must be faced by high performances infrastructures. The paper addresses the potential benefit of adopting a grid computing infrastructure to solve CEM problems. In particular here we focus on a Domain Decomposition (DD) technique to reduce the complexity of a MoM analysis of large and complex structures. It was build a low-cost grid infrastructure, composed of heterogeneous recovery machines, both physical and virtual, on which to run scientific applications without the need to modify the source codes of the used algorithms. Virtualization enables the optimization of resources and simplify infrastructure management. Were carried out some performance tests to verify the time gain and the overhead introduced by the grid infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":251730,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121439665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the blend of classroom teaching and secured open source web tools to reach all types of learners. CLEM gives the flexibility to the learner to choose his own way of learning. The focus of this experimental finding, (CLEM) is on the knowledge gained by the learner, giving less priority to the mode of learning. Here, classroom presence is made mandatory only for the last class of every week, but is optional for the first three, but all the learners, regardless of the mode of learning chosen, are supposed to reflect their understanding on the instructor's web portal, summarizing the content delivered on that particular day. CLEM comprises of classroom teaching and open source web tools like blogs, discussion forums and group mails/messages to deliver the course content. It aims to enhance the active guided independent learning environment. This paper presents how a better learning effect is achieved using CLEM based on the survey and analysis of students' academic performance. The paper also explores how CLEM could be used as a Web Bulletin Board.","PeriodicalId":251730,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123347691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, the rendering of a single high-quality image may take days even on powerful computers. In this paper, we present a novel approach based on grid philosophy and the P2P model for distributed rendering. The grid allows us to face this challenge through a highly scalable decentralized architecture, which has been developed and evaluated to carry out rendering of single frames and full animations. An empirical comparison is established with a rendering cluster also developed for this work to generate images for monitoring applications. The main contribution of this paper is to reduce the gap between distributed rendering and the grid by empirically showing the advantages of this approach.","PeriodicalId":251730,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115855999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the logical and physical organization of these paradigms, portable and embedded computing devices are being developed and naturally becoming an integral part of these systems. In addition to stringent area and power requirements, design constraints such as time-to-market and competitive margin pose serious challenges to embedded hardware designers. One of the most promising avenues to overcome these challenges is reconfigurable hardware. In this work, FPGA-based reconfigurable hardware is examined. As a case study, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), the classical technique to reduce the dimensionality of data and to extract dominant features, is designed and implemented as hardware on FPGA to be reconfigured dynamically during execution. Using part of a handwriting analysis application together with a benchmark dataset, experiments are performed to evaluate the feasibility, efficiency, and flexibility of reconfigurable hardware.","PeriodicalId":251730,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117265889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This kind of mechanisms are particularly useful when adopting a fine-coarse approach, that is, when distributing the rendering of a single image. Optimizing to the needs of the general population, these search engines quite often fail business individuals who seek enterprise information pertaining to a particular industry. The Web-based Intelligence Recommender for Enterprise (WIRE) is designed to assist these business individuals. The system uses existing Internet search engines as a basis to collect relevant documents via links encountered during crawling. The pages visited are analyzed and given a score according to certain criteria tailored to the individual's or the organization's interest. The score of a document thus represents its suitability and validity for business use. Selected pages are ranked and presented to the user for further actions. In order to adapt to the individuality of the user and the uniqueness of the type of business, design emphasis is placed on modularity and extensibility of the Recommender.","PeriodicalId":251730,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116151681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The video quality on the Internet does not come up to TV quality yet. Although audiences often ask for high-quality video, it is difficult to improve the quality because of its huge video traffic. In this paper, we propose an Internet broadcast system with a high-quality snapshot function to improve user experience. The proposed system delivers low-quality video to audience. Meanwhile, it provides a high-quality snapshot function which enables the audience to take a snapshot of a desired and favorite scene anytime. We suppose the high-quality snapshot would improve audience's experience even if they were low-quality video because the data size of still picture is far small than that of video. To assess effectiveness of the proposed system, we designed and implemented a prototype system. This paper reports the effectiveness of the high-quality snapshot function in the Internet live broadcasting conducting preliminary and practical experiments.","PeriodicalId":251730,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115999498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the fast development of large scale distributed systems and due to their heterogenous nature involving wired, wireless and mobile nodes, synchronization has come again to play. In this work we have studied the contact synchronization and handling, which is an important feature in corporate environments. Indeed, it has become very important to support collaboration of teams of mobile users by enabling anytime and anywhere access to shared contact data. We characterize the problem as a distributed systems problems, identify its desirable properties and outline its main characteristics. A simple algorithm is proposed as an efficient solution to the contact synchronization when some nodes of the system are assumed mobile phones under Android system.
