Ele preenche uma lacuna na pesquisa ao investigar elementos do sistema de controle gerencial como condições necessárias e suficientes para alcançar altos níveis de DO. Os achados mostram uma menor importância dos controles de planejamento e uma maior importância de alinhar prioridades e indicadores para alcançar altos níveis de desempenho. Este artigo é útil para os profissionais que precisam escolher que tipo de controles gerenciais são prioritários para alcançar altos níveis de desempenho. As estruturas conceituais de controle gerencial são úteis para a literatura e a prática; todavia, os profissionais não conseguem implementar todo o conjunto desses componentes, considerando a restrição de tempo e aspectos contingenciais. As empresas têm que escolher quais tipos de controles gerenciais devem implementar, objetivando alcançar desempenho. Como método de pesquisa foi adotada uma abordagem quantitativa baseada na teoria da contingência com uma amostra de 89 empresas brasileiras. As relações foram testadas usando modelagem de equações estruturais por mínimos quadrados parciais (partial least squares structural equations modeling - PLS-SEM), e a análise de condição necessária (necessary condition analysis - NCA) foi aplicada para identificar os controles gerenciais que são condições suficientes e necessárias para um desempenho superior. Os resultados do estudo sugerem que um nível alto de indicadores alinhados estrategicamente está associado à obtenção de alto nível de desempenho. Também sugerem a importância de alinhar prioridades estratégicas com indicadores de desempenho adequados, defendidos principalmente na literatura normativa (balanced scorecard) e empírica.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127147087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Estudos sobre sistemas de controle gerencial (SCG) e resultados ambientais têm priorizado variáveis organizacionais, como o desempenho sustentável/ambiental. Esforços direcionados aos SCG para fomentar comportamentos verdes nos funcionários são limitados. Também existe uma chamada de estudos que apontam a interdependência de controles associada a desempenho, inovação ou outras variáveis em que o contexto ambiental é menos contemplado. O engajamento dos funcionários é fundamental para que as organizações alcancem maior nível de sustentabilidade. Destarte, o estudo explora a percepção de funcionários sobre como a organização investigada usa um controle gerencial (PMS) para promover a congruência dos objetivos organizacionais e individuais no âmbito da sustentabilidade ambiental. A literatura está preocupada em compreender o papel dos SCG em comportamentos e resultados verdes. A maior parcela dos estudos concentra-se em resultados organizacionais como o desempenho, com poucas evidências para satisfação ou engajamento dos funcionários. Similarmente, existe crescente demanda para explorar a interdependência de SCG para contextos além de inovação ou desempenho. Uma single entity survey foi realizada em uma empresa privada brasileira do setor de geração de energia elétrica, resultando em uma amostra de 101 funcionários. Para análise dos dados, utilizaram-se a modelagem de equações estruturais por mínimos quadrados parciais e a análise qualitativa comparativa fuzzy-set. O uso (diagnóstico, interativo e combinado) do PMS influencia positivamente a satisfação ambiental e essa apoia o engajamento no trabalho verde. A satisfação ambiental promove mediações totais entre o uso (diagnóstico e interativo) do PMS e o engajamento no trabalho verde. Diversas combinações de condições levam à alta satisfação ambiental e ao alto engajamento no trabalho verde.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129081105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within the budgetary context, the studies that analyze the effects of enabling characteristics of budgetary control on individuals’ mental states at work are still in their infancy and that is a theoretical gap explored in this research. The research evaluates the interactive and multidimensional effects of enabling budgetary control on psychological capital. It advances the literature by indicating which characteristics exert the greatest influence on psychological capital and its dimensions. The results provide evidence of the enabling effects of enabling budgetary control on the psychological capacities of managers with budgetary responsibility, being positively reflected in their beliefs of self-efficacy, hope, optimism, and resilience for achieving their objectives and the desired organizational results, which tends to have an impact on the individuals’ as well as the organization’s performance. A survey was conducted in a publicly-traded company operating in Brazil, using a quantitative approach to the data (structural equation modeling). The sample analyzed included 85 middle-level managers from different areas of the organization. The possibility of adjusting budgetary reports and accessing detailed information on budgetary deviations (repair capacity), as well as of incurring expenses unforeseen in the budget and adjusting the original budgetary assumptions (budgetary flexibility), positively contributes to promoting managers’ psychological capital. However, this does not occur with internal transparency and global transparency. Within the context studied, the benefit of repair capacity primarily takes the form of self-efficacy, resilience, and hope, while the benefit of flexibility primarily occurs in terms of optimism and hope. These results contribute to organizations designing their management control systems so as to develop the psychological capital of their collaborators and thus obtain the benefits expected from that development.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126026295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our study aims to broaden the understanding in an area that remains underexplored by the literature. In particular, we present a new direction for the study of Malmendier and Tate (2009) by addressing the question of superstar CEOs considering the market’s perception regarding the hiring of an executive and their performance in the new company. The article highlights a new research question that permeates the market’s perception with regard to changing executives classified as superstars. In addition, the study connects the literature on superstar CEOs and changing executives, presenting new findings for the theme. The results obtained provide new findings for the literature and elucidate that superstar CEOs are positively evaluated by the market at the time of the hiring announcement. However, these executives do not show better performance than the other companies in the sector in subsequent periods, which corroborates and extends the negative aspects found by Malmendier and Tate (2009). The methodology used was an event study, OLS, Logit, and Probit. This article highlights that bigger companies with better operational performance have a greater probability of choosing a new CEO with superstar status in situations of changing executives. CEOs of external origin and classified as superstars are, on average, better evaluated than their peers by the market in the event window relating to the hiring announcement. However, the performance of these executives may fall short of the results calculated for the sector average. The aforementioned results broaden the discussion regarding decisions to change executives and highlight new findings about the role of the CEO’s origin and their status of recognition and fame.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116225586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Esta pesquisa contribui para o melhor entendimento sobre os efeitos de restrições de resgate impostas aos cotistas, assunto que se mostra relevante ao considerarmos o aumento no número de fundos no Brasil. Esse efeito é analisado com particular atenção ao período afetado pela pandemia da covid-19. Os resultados desta pesquisa têm implicações para investidores individuais e profissionais, podendo despertar também o interesse de grandes famílias de fundos brasileiras, tendo em vista que o estabelecimento de períodos de lockup faz parte de uma decisão de longo prazo. A pesquisa tem o potencial de impactar o planejamento na indústria de fundos, o planejamento financeiro de pequenos e grandes investidores e também a literatura sobre o assunto, motivando a realização de novas pesquisas. A amostra foi composta por 17.417 fundos brasileiros, sendo 13.581 fundos multimercados e 3.836 fundos de ações, considerando o período de janeiro/2018 a dezembro/2021. Várias subamostras foram avaliadas para fins de robustez. As hipóteses foram testadas com o uso de um modelo de diferença-em-diferença operacionalizado por meio de um painel. A performance dos fundos foi estimada a cada trimestre com base no alfa de 4 fatores. Os principais resultados do estudo revelam que períodos de lockup mostraram-se positivamente associados com a performance dos fundos. Em contrapartida, durante o período negativamente afetado pela covid-19, fundos com maiores períodos de lockup não registraram melhor performance que os demais fundos (considerando-se na comparação a performance de grupos com menor lockup e a performance dos fundos antes da pandemia), resultado que pode avançar a discussão sobre os efeitos das restrições de resgate.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121840207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the wide variety of existing funds, with various characteristics and objectives, there may be significant differences in the fees observed. Thus, it is worth analyzing the factors that influence the amount of fund management fees charged, since the literature highlights that the payment of fees is related to fund performance. Also, it is observed that the Brazilian fund industry, despite having a large number of available funds, is still concentrated in few management firms, which is an indication that there is a low competition level. In practical terms, this investigation may be useful to investors in the fund selection process, since the management fee represents one of the main costs an investor faces when investing in this industry. The results point out the importance of adopting greater transparency in the disclosure of fees by financial institutions, since there are indications that the amounts charged are influenced by the characteristics of funds and investors. The methodology adopted involves Logit/Probit regression models, which had changes in the management fee as an explained variable and, as explanatory variables, the proxies of competition and investor sentiment, in addition to other control variables. It was observed that the investor sentiment proxy was significant in explaining the probability of change in management fees, mainly for setting higher fees. However, no statistical significance was observed for industry competition. This research innovates by analyzing the role of industry competition and investor sentiment on the probability of changing management fees, thus contributing to fill a gap found in the Brazilian national literature.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122655762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is little joint discussion about the precedents and consequences of this behavior, despite the diverse evidence of its importance and influence over the individuals’ different living environments. Thus, these variables represent a topic of interest to understand their effects over students. Cyberloafing behavior has been linked to academic performance, learning experiences, and the emotional state of students, and so it is pertinent to understand its precedents and consequences. The implications of the research are discussed in theoretical, practical, and social terms. The personal and conscious use of the internet and technological devices should be promoted in order to provide gains both at the individual and at the organizational level in the environment the student inhabits. Structural equation modeling was applied to 404 valid participations obtained through an online survey conducted with students from different regions of Brazil. The personal precedents, such as the need for contact with friends, exert a greater effect over cyberloafing behavior. The academic precedents, such as the quality of the materials used in the classes, also presented a significant relationship with cyberloafing behavior. The consequences related with cyberloafing consisted of arriving late to class and academic meetings, procrastinating in the execution of academic activities, and isolating oneself from friends and family. These elements show that cyberloafing is the result of the environment the individual inhabits and that it has different consequences in the student’s life.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127674204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It explores a theoretical gap regarding the relationship between the life cycle stages of companies and ESG initiatives in Brazil, an emerging country. The findings are relevant for understanding how the life cycle stages act as signals of the level of ESG actions of companies and how the market perceives these actions and their ability to create value. The research provides evidence that the fundamentals of the firm life cycle theory function as indicators for several organizational perspectives, including ESG practices. The sample consisted of 109 companies whose data were collected from Thomson Reuters® and analyzed using multiple regression. The model proposed by Dickinson (2011) was used to analyze the life cycle stages. It should be highlighted that the data were also analyzed using the fixed effect as an estimation of the econometric model, but there was a loss of statistical significance in the relationship found, possibly due to the sample selection performed in the unbalanced panel. Based on the sample analyzed and the econometric models used, the results indicate that companies in the birth and turbulence stages have lower levels of ESG practices, particularly in the environmental and social pillars, compared to companies in the maturity stage. The findings also show that ESG initiatives in the Brazilian capital market are associated with measures of companies’ profitability, liquidity, indebtedness, market value, and number of analysts. The research contributes to the analysis of the relationship between the adoption of ESG practices and the life cycle stages of companies in an emerging market, with implications for stakeholders regarding the targeting of resources to sustainable actions.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131997323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The case provides empirical evidence on the post-acquisition context and the process of changes in management accounting in acquired companies, considering that the acquiring company tends to interfere through the coercive introduction of new management control systems. The research adds empirical evidence on the role of organizational principles established by the acquirer in the process of changes in the rules and routines in an acquired company. A change in management accounting is a complex process that involves the interaction of elements inside and outside organizations to promote organizational efficiency. The research evidence corroborates the literature by finding that changes in management accounting are motivated by the search for economic efficiency in acquired companies. However, the success of the change in rules and routines depends on various institutional elements that involve organizations, such as the coercive nature of the change driven by the new owners. The research is descriptive in nature and uses a qualitative approach, adopting a case study in a ceramic tiles company that underwent an acquisition operation. The acquisition operation brought a new philosophy of individual performance optimization that drove the institutionalization of the performance evaluation system in the acquired company. The new system was configured as a formal management accounting artifact focused on the individual. The results provide contributions for organizations, managers, and consultants that wish to implement management accounting artifacts in acquired companies by highlighting relevant elements from the institutional field and field of action for the management accounting change process.","PeriodicalId":251378,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contabilidade & Finanças","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133387073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
