One way to achieve privacy protection is by employing a privacy preserving device that can protect persons' identity, but still provide sufficient information to detect anomalous events if necessary. The skin region is important as a Personally Identifying Information (PII) that needs to be obscured if privacy is to be protected. Thus, this paper presents skin detection techniques to conceal privacy sensitive information. However, state-of-the-art skin detection methods suffer from various problems when deployed in a surveillance system. Accordingly, we propose a solution whereby we first find a set of candidate Regions-of-Interest (RoI) and then apply skin detection to the RoI thus found so as to locate the skin. By using this strategy, skin regions can be well delineated to allow targeted privacy filtering without covering the non-RoI parts.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126846808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It addresses the issue of identifying those images that were captured by a specific source camera from a given set of N data images. This is possible as each camera has a unique Photo Response Non-Uniformity (PRNU) that is registered in every image captured by this camera. Classification is made by clustering images having the same PRNU. In this paper, an efficient technique is proposed to group images originated by the same camera. It is based on evaluating the similarity functions between the estimated PRNUs as well as their Hu's moment invariant information. The proposed technique has the ability to group images taken by a specific camera, even if the input images correspond to the same scene that was captured by different cameras. The classification algorithm is performed by means of a hierarchical clustering. Simulation examples are given to verify the superiority of the proposed technique compared to other techniques.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133717450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on the Discrete Fourier Transform of the original spatial image and on the polar mapping of the spectrum of the latter image. While the first step eliminates the translation's effect between faces, the second step minimizes the effect of any face's rotation. The approach is evaluated by studying its performance with other existing techniques using a correlation coefficient as a similarity measure for comparison purposes. Besides, the effect of the number of images used in the training procedure is studied. The results show that the proposed technique outperforms the other techniques and a recognition of 100 percent is possible as the number of training images is increased.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127777276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the studies is to identify any potential for improvement in the performance of the codec with this type of content. Both studies employ a texture-focused video database developed by the authors. Study I evaluates the performance of H.265/HEVC relative to H.264/AVC for the case of static, dynamic and mixed texture content. Study II evaluates the effectiveness of the currently used objective quality measures with this type of content. The results suggest that there is potential for improvement in coding performance by matching the quality/error measure used to the type of content (textured/non-textured) and type of texture (static, dynamic, mixed) encountered.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128864156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It combines the probability density function of the stochastic Watershed and the Frobenius norm of the Hessian operator under the evidence theory framework. The first step of this method is a classification of the values provided by these two sources of information into five classes. Then, a predefined belief scheme is used to assign masses to pixels in each class. The segmentation result is obtained after beliefs fusion using the Dempster's rule of combination. The method is designed for two-label segmentation, contour and non-contour. Experimental results on a set of images from the Berkeley dataset, shows the ability of this method to yield a good segmentation compared to the given ground truths.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124843424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we propose a new fully automated method to detect significant longitudinal changes in diffusivity metrics along WM fiber-bundles. This method consists in two steps: i) preprocessing of longitudinal diffusion acquisitions and WM fiber-bundles extraction, ii) application of a genetic algorithm (GA) to detect “pathological” changes. This method was applied first, on simulated longitudinal variations, and second, on MS patients longitudinal data. High level of precision, recall and F-Measure were obtained for the detection of small longitudinal changes along the WM fiber-bundles.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126979938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to optimize the coal liberation process it is necessary to classify a coal ore sample into its constituent components as quickly and cheaply possible. This paper investigates whether it is feasible to employ image processing and pattern recognition to segment a photographic image of coal ore into its various mineral components prior to the sample being crushed. The key to solving this classification problem is to model the visual texture of the various coal components by means of a low-dimensional texture space consisting of two main dimensions, namely: roughness and regularity. The regularity of each texture is estimated by means of a novel model-based approach. The distribution of the various coal components in the resultant feature space is modelled by means of a mixtures model and a simple nearest-neighbour decision rule is used to classify each pixel in the image. The performance of the classification system is encouraging and shows the feasibility of our idea.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"20 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114118745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These non-salient areas are in turn incident on the para, peri and extra-peri foveal retinal regions that are especially sensitive to temporal artefacts. To study the perceptual effects of such a quality based flicker in the retinal periphery, in this experiment gaze data was collected from 48 observers in a free viewing scenario using a regulated flicker stimulus. The video stimulus in the mentioned peripheral regions were flickered with a predetermined frequency and amplitude by adaptively combining the streams produced using a H.265 video coder, and presenting them in a Gaze Contingent Display(GCD) setup. Utilizing statistical gaze analysis techniques, we observe that, temporal quality flicker in the visual periphery plays a major role in disturbing the natural viewing patterns of an observer. Further, this effect was found to be maximum in the 7.5Hz temporal band thus showing that, encoders that affect temporal quality smoothness must aim to avoid such distraction effects.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"240 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122997377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we propose a novel optimisation approach for the open source Point Cloud Library (PCL) that is frequently used for processing 3D data. Three aspects of the PCL are discussed: point cloud creation from disparity of colour image pairs, voxel grid downsample filtering to simplify point clouds and passthrough filtering to adjust the size of the point cloud. Additionally, rendering is examined. An optimisation technique based on CPU cycle measurement is proposed and applied in order to optimise those parts of the processing chain where measured performance is worst. The PCL modules thus optimised show on average an improvement in speed of 2.4x for point cloud creation, 91x for voxel grid filtering and 7.8x for the passthrough filter.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132194749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

No state-of-the-art image feature detector works satisfactorily under all types of image transformations. Although the literature offers a variety of comparison works focusing on performance evaluation of image feature detectors under several types of image transformation, the influence of the scene content on the performance of local feature detectors has received little attention so far. This paper aims to bridge this gap with a new framework for determining the type of scenes, which maximize and minimize the performance of detectors in terms of repeatability rate. Several state-of-the-art feature detectors have been assessed utilizing a large database of 12936 images generated by applying uniform light and blur changes to 539 scenes captured from the real world. The results obtained provide new insights into the behaviour of feature detectors.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132406368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
