These techniques are known as user-specific score normalizations. Following this vision, the proposed research focuses on developing a new user-specific score normalization procedure, which is based on a recently proposed EER-Norm. While in its original form, some parameters specific to a user cannot be estimated due to the limited availability of training data, especially of the genuine/client matching scores, we aims to stabilise the estimates of these parameters by using both the user-independent and user-dependent information. The proposed approach tested on the XM2VTS and BioSecure DB2 databases is shown to outperform the existing known score normalization ones, such as Z-, EER-, and F-Norms in the majority of experiments.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127443885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This development is shifting the care that patients get to the comfort of their own homes. This paper surveys existing pervasive healthcare solutions including those developed in academia as well as commercial solutions from the industry sector. This paper also develops a set of criteria, which were used to classify and compare these solutions. These criteria are: integrity, confidentiality, mobility and context-awareness. We discuss some drawbacks of existing solutions, and propose future directions in pervasive healthcare. Finally, the paper draws some guidelines and best practices, which are predicted to shape future pervasive healthcare systems.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114966919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

That is why expanding of wind turbine farms is a priority in many countries. One of the most important parameters in design and implementation of such farms is optimum selection of wind turbine farm location in a way that the corresponding constraints are met. This paper introduces a new optimization algorithm based on the opposition based ant colony optimization (OACO) algorithm for this aim. Analyzes of simulation results demonstrate performance of the proposed method for optimum localization of wind turbine farms in Saudi Arabia case study.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115170212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transferring data, via a high bandwidth connection between data centres and cloud users, consumes even larger amounts of energy than just processing and storing the data on a cloud data centre, and hence producing high carbon dioxide emissions. This power consumption is highly significant when transferring data into a data centre located relatively far from the user's geographical location. Thus, it became high-necessity to locate the lowest energy consumption route between the user and the designated data centre, while making sure the user's requirements, e.g. response time, are met. This paper proposes a high-end autonomic meta-director framework to find the most energy efficient route to the green data centre by utilising the linear programming approach. The framework is, first, formalised by the situation calculus, and then evaluated against shortest path algorithm with minimum number of nodes traversed.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133325620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We argue that, as an immediate consequence, this will lead to refocusing the scientific and commercial interest towards the end user. In this context, the current transition from Quality of Service (QoS) to Quality of Experience (QoE) will serve as a primary example. Therefore, in this position paper, we review basic motivation and framework as well as key steps and main outcomes of this somehow unparalleled paradigm change, which can be safely called an \"Anti-Copernican Revolution\", as it finally puts back the end user into the center of the technological universe. Deliberately abstaining from in-depth technical discussions, we end up formulating a set of seven succinct lessons learned from the past two decades of research on telecommunication service quality, and discuss their relevance also for other fields of systems engineering.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132136940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method delivers a series of visual data, in digital format, associated with a digital three dimensional replica of the investigated surface. The way of visualizing this kind of model is an interactive virtual world environment, that allows the user of a PC to view the investigated surface of the artwork from any angle. The data are presented as textured images on the surface of the digital three dimensional model and can be selected by the user by the means of an interactive menu.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133717537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore it can be seen from many perspectives. In particular, it seems to be common to underestimate the inherent difficulty of obtaining the scientific basis for evaluating health technology and taking decisions about its efficient use. It is important to promote the dialog between the aforementioned communities in order to optimize the overall benefit of the patient. This problem ultimately leads to an ethical dilemma and has no simple solution. In this paper, we try to provide a balanced view of the problem, showing the trade-offs and helping to take responsible decisions. As representatives of the information technology, we also propose a technical solution that permits to collect data necessary for research and minimizing the risk of its loss.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132243677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed technique is mainly intended for sending an email, a private instant messaging or text blocks. The plaintext for encryption/decryption is treated at the bit level which provides more security than mingling and mangling characters. In addition, the advantage of this technique is that both, the key algorithm which is generated from the plaintext stream bit and the encryption/decryption algorithm are the same. If we change a key from one encryption to another using the same plaintext, the ciphertext will be different. Errors in one or more bits of the ciphertext do not affect the future ciphertext blocks. The disadvantage is the security problem. Equal blocks in the plaintext become equal blocks in the ciphertext, which is easy to guess from the ciphertext that two blocks are the same.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"187 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116993405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we present a process to integrate the data gathered by therapeutic machines of our industrial partner used for treatment of neurological and orthopedic disorders. These devices are deployed in numerous physical therapy clinics worldwide. During a therapy session they collect and store precise measurements of various physical parameters. As they have been used for many years, they hold a large and valuable set of data. One goal of the project was to develop a mechanism for transferring those dispersed data to a central server where they can be analyzed by a team of specialists in medical statistics. Another goal was to develop a software that permits to define flexibly various statistics by those specialists, without a necessity of having IT skills. In addition to the system permitting to collect and analyze the therapy session data, an application has been developed to implement a standardized quality of life questionnaire (EuroQol-5D) that allows to compare the results of the therapy using this machine with other therapy methods. As an incentive to cooperate in the program, the patient receives a personal report about his/her therapy progress, possibly benchmarked against the progress of other patients suffering from the same disease. This report also can be flexibly configured by a software developed in this project. In this way, valuable data, previously dormant on isolated systems worldwide, can be reused to validate and improve the therapy for the benefit of the patients.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126510736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
