This paper presents a new human-robot sub-dialogues structure based on the XML Document Object Model (DOM). The dialogue structure which aims at improving patient-carer interactivity enables both the patients and their carers to control behavior of humanoid robot locally through verbal instructions or tactile sensors as well as remotely through textual Web-based instructions. The textual instructions which are prepared in the form of interactive dialogues are converted to XML DOM and sent to the in-home robot via the Internet. The robot will then verbalize these dialogues and present them to the patient along with appropriate gesture/posture attributes. The XML DOM standard is adopted in this study to facilitate the structure and navigation flexibility between the internal nodes of the dialogue. Numerous human-robot interactions based on the proposed dialogue structure have been designed, built and successfully performed by the robot using both local and remote instructions. These dialogues are tailored to support diabetes self-management in children. The prototype evaluation results and observations showed (i) a seamless and accurate data transfer between the robot and a remote Web-based health portal, and (ii) a high level of navigation flexibility between different nodes of the experimented dialogues.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129181686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this task the capability of telling in real time falls from normal daily activities is crucial. To this aim, this paper proposes an approach based on the automatic extraction of knowledge expressed as a set of IF...THEN rules from a database of fall recordings. This set of rules, generated offline, can then be exploited in a real-time mobile monitoring system: data gathered by wearable sensors are processed in real time and, if their values activate some of the rules describing falls, an alarm message is automatically produced. The approach has been compared against other classifiers on a real-world fall database, and its discrimination ability is shown to be higher. Moreover, a test phase for the real-time mobile monitoring system is being carried out over real cases.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129251076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to investigate the process of change and potential landscape configurations before permanent changes are made, spatial and temporal dynamics of land cover change scenarios and models are an increasingly valuable tool for examining future urban landscapes. Higher concentration of people in cities and their activities are exerting increasing pressure on the natural environment with consequences at urban, regional, continental and global levels. Due to urban development, in spite of improvements in air quality observed in Bucharest city after 1990, still concentrations of particulate matter PM and ground surface ozone, and other pollutants have not shown a significant decrease, these exceeding the recommendations of the World Health Organization. The influence of aerosol particles on climate, and how their properties are perturbed by anthropogenic activity, is one of the key uncertainties in climate change assessments. The study focuses on the assessment of environmental impacts of urban growth and pollution on Bucharest metropolitan area, Romania by satellite remote sensing and in-situ monitoring data. The application of fuzzy logic for quantifying magnitudes of urban land cover changes was used to identify anthropogenic changes that affects urban environment to various extents.","PeriodicalId":248716,"journal":{"name":"2013 Sixth International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115038952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
