However, traditional CNNs do not perform well on irregular-structured data defined on a graph. Graph convolutional neural networks (graph CNNs) define convolutional layers using graph signal processing (GSP) concepts. They perform well on data defined on a graph such as citation networks and NYC taxi pickup data. Polynomial filter graph CNNs use a polynomial of the graph adjacency matrix A in the convolutional layer. However, they have been shown to fail on graph classification problems when the convolutional layer produces the same output for non-isomorphic graphs and identical graph signals.Recently, a spectral domain shift, M, has been proposed in GSP as the dual to the vertex domain shift and adjacency matrix, A. This has led to a spectral domain theory, dual to the existing vertex domain theory. In this paper, we redefine and dualize the convolutional layer for graph CNNs using M in the spectral domain. In doing so, we solve the problem of graph CNNs failing when applied to certain graph inputs. We show theoretically and experimentally the advantages of our solution on both synthetic and real datasets.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115308021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there are practical challenges, such as high hardware cost and power consumption in such systems. A promising solution to these problems is to adopt a hybrid beamforming architecture. This architecture has a much lower number of transceiver (TRx) chains than the total antenna number, resulting in cost- and energy-efficient systems. In this paper, we present a real-time mmWave (28GHz) massive MIMO testbed with hybrid beamforming. This testbed has a 64-antenna/16-TRx unit for beam-selection, which can be expanded to larger array sizes in a modular way. For testing everything from baseband processing algorithms to scheduling and beam-selection in real propagation environments, we extend the capability of an existing 100-antenna/100-TRx massive MIMO testbed (below 6GHz), built upon software-defined radio technology, to a flexible mmWave massive MIMO system.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122458848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our method combines the best of two worlds: instant RF signals for both communication and energy transfer, and slower propagating acoustic waves for accurate distance measurements. We introduce advanced energy loading of an ’E-buffer’ through beamformed RF signals. The scientific contribution of our approach is twofold, advancing both the positioning performance and the energy harvesting efficiency. On the one hand, we overcome current distance limitations in RF backscattering-based indoor localization. On the other hand, it enhances the energy harvesting by using the calculated position and beamforming a higher amount of directed RF energy into the mobile node. We provide a functional architecture for both sides of the system and present a proof-of-concept. Practical measurements in representative use cases show an update rate of 10 positions per hour within the regulatory constraints in the 868MHz band for distances up to 4.5 m. An energy and power model are drawn up to provide insights into the performance trade-offs.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131465818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relay is considered to operate in full-duplex (FD) mode so that both energy recycling and information decoding can be performed. For this purpose, the relay is assumed to be provided with two batteries which switch between the power supplying mode and charging mode at each transmission block. In particular, we assume that the self-interference inherent to FD mode is not completely suppressed; it is subject only to passive interference cancellation for self-energy recycling, while it is subject to both passive and active cancellation for information decoding. We derive a tight closed-form approximation to the outage probability for the considered FD mode-based scheme, as well as for the HD mode-based counterpart. We validate the obtained expressions via Monte Carlo simulations. The impact of self-energy recycling in FD mode on the system performance is assessed.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127694533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider the recently proposed Modified Coded Caching Scheme (MCCS) with the optimized cache placement based on the popularity-first approach to minimize the average delivery rate. We introduce two information-theoretic lower bounds on the average rate for caching under uncoded placement. For K = 2 users, we show that the optimized MCCS attains the lower bound and is optimal for caching with uncoded placement. For general K users with distinct file requests, the optimized MCCS attains the popularity-first-based lower bound. When there are redundant file requests among K users, we show a possible gap between the optimized MCCS and the lower bounds, which is attributed to zero-padding commonly used for coded delivery. We analyze the impact of zero-padding and its limitation. Simulation study shows that the loss is very small in general and only exists in some limited cases.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127798498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An online operation needs only a small number of input digits to begin producing the result digits. This property allows overlap between successive operations thus reducing data dependencies. It also enables digit-level massive parallelism and allows variable precision computations with unbiased truncation. In this paper we are exploring the property that the digits are used only when available and needed thus reducing module (signal) activities and consequently the energy consumed. We analyze a general online algorithm model and relations of input patterns on module activities in basic organizations. The two basic organizations are considered: a linear array (1D) with sequential execution, and a 2D array with combinational execution. Both organizations consist of repeated digit slices (modules). Reduction of active modules has two sources due to online mode of computation: gradual use of input digits and possibility to truncate working precision to p < n full precision. As a case study we analyze online scheme for 3D vector normalization. The results presented are analytical and the reductions in module activities are estimates. In general, the module activities are reduced by about 50% with respect to conventional arithmetic sequential and linear array implementations. Implementation is needed to obtain actual energy savings. This analysis may motivate further study of module activities as a function of arithmetic modes.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133426853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fully decentralized feedforward equalization architecture can alleviate these bottlenecks by performing the signal equalization in decentralized clusters using only local channel state information. The Deep Neural Networks (DNN) used in the DRL approaches have a fixed size input, and this poses a problem in real usage scenarios where the system state that includes number of users can be variable. In this paper we address this important problem by proposing a model-assisted DRL approach, which combines a model based solution with DRL based scheduling and can address both the variable input size and the DNN complexity issues. We show that this approach can achieve performance comparable to a DRL algorithm where a larger DNN trained for the worst-case scenario of the maximum number of users in the system. From a practical perspective our approach of using a model-assisted DRL has the following advantages: 1) There is no strict upper bound on the maximum number of users that can be supported by the system as opposed to the case when we train for the worst case number of users, 2) Training is faster and more energy efficient, and 3) leads to low-complex DNNs achieve comparable performance.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131888519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This often occurs when, for reasons of practicality, it is not reasonable to account for all of the real-world factors affecting a given signal. In the context of radio direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation this can occur due to interference, multipath or other unanticipated phenomena, or due to modelling assumptions that are made in order to utilize computationally efficient array processing algorithms. In this contribution we address the problem of model misspecification in the context of multi-antenna stochastic direction-of-arrival estimation. We present this problem as an application for the Misspecified Cramér-Rao lower bound (MCRB) and derive a set of general models and expressions for computing the MCRB for the misspecified stochastic DOA problem. These models are compared against the convergent results of the stochastic maximum-likelihood (ML) estimation to show that the performance of an asymptotically optimal unbiased estimator does converge to the value predicted by the MCRB.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134146747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
