The PSO component, through its built-in diffusion process, enhances the proposed scheme’s ability to quickly locate the region containing the global minimum, thus enabling the LMS to take over and exploit both the temporal and spatial diversity of the data so as to quickly hone in on the global minimum. Simulation results illustrate the improved performance of this hybrid scheme over both non-cooperative and other hybrid strategies.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115267765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other side, it also introduces new challenges in tackling the power amplifier nonlinearity due to the increased number of antennas. The behavior of Out-of-Band radiation from PAs in Massive MIMO is non-trivial depending upon the applied precoding scheme, propagation environment, and how the users are distributed spatially. In this paper, we analyze the in-band and Out-of-Band power distribution in space for a Massive MIMO base station with nonlinear power amplifiers. We also study the tradeoff between amplifier power consumption and system performance (in terms of error vector magnitude at intended receivers) for PAs with different backoff operating levels. The spatial analysis of Out-of-Band under more realistic channel conditions is more reflective of the situation, to determine system emission requirements. The tradeoff between performance and power consumption will provide a basis for future investigations into the design of efficient Massive MIMO systems, taking nonlinearities into account.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115673561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, recent advances in deep learning are leveraged to develop a deep neural network (DNN) based receive antenna selection solution for a given problem dimension. We detail the neural network structure and evaluate several relevant figures of merit via numerical simulations. This data-driven solution is shown to achieve near optimal mutual information in simple settings, but does not scale naturally with the problem dimension. For the practical scenario where the number of selected antennas is unknown a priori, hybrid greedy solutions are proposed which build on the DNN-based solution for a given dimension and then greedily increase or decrease the number of antennas to approximate the optimal solution of the new problem dimension. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the hybrid solutions.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127542762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We show that the MCM does not have the correct structure to provide an accurate mathematical model of the true array manifold. The MCM is not based on physical parameters and this makes it difficult to determine its numerical values for a given antenna array. The MCM is usually treated as an unknown quantity which needs to be estimated. Numerical examples in array processing papers use arbitrary values of the MCM which do not correspond to any physical array. Consequently the observations and conclusions presented in those papers must be treated with some care.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123447899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present work deals with uncovering anomalous edges in attributed graphs using two distinct formulations with complementary strengths, which can be easily distributed, and hence efficient. The first relies on decomposing the graph data matrix into low rank plus sparse components to markedly improve performance. The second broadens the scope of the first by performing robust recovery of the unperturbed graph, which enhances the anomaly identification performance. The novel methods not only capture anomalous edges linking nodes of different communities, but also spurious connections between any two nodes with different features. Experiments conducted on real and synthetic data corroborate the effectiveness of both methods in the anomaly identification task.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"271 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122510575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the applications in this area is the monitoring of buoys at sea. To realize wireless tracking of buoys, an accurate prediction of the path loss in an open-sea environment is essential. So far, channel measurements at sea have mainly been conducted with antennas placed a couple of meters above the sea surface, which is higher than the buoys themselves. Therefore, we investigated the validity of the published channel models at sea by means of path loss measurements using a LoRa link with a transmitter antenna height of 0.35 m and a base station antenna height of 2.65 m and 5.2 m. Our results show that the round earth loss model is not accurate at these antenna heights. The ITU-R P.2001-3 model and a model by Bullington show a better agreement with our measurements. However, the difference between our two measurement campaigns shows that more investigation is needed on the dependence of the path loss on the sea state. Additionally, the availability of Sigfox, Narrowband Internet of Things and The Things has been explored. We found that that these can be used for IoT applications in the tested area at low antenna heights.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114725723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a novel index modulation technique that has a potential for use in sixth-generation wireless communications. The conventional GPSM activates multiple dual-polarized transmit (Tx) antennas in the spatial domain and uses combinations of these indices to encode information bits. For each active DP antenna, the GPSM then selects one polarization state to transmit information. In this paper, we employ reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) to implement the GPSM transmitter to yield more than two polarization states while using a low-cost reconfigurable electromagnetic (EM) metasurface with a reduced form-factor compared to traditional MIMO antenna arrays. The method-of-moment full-wave simulations of our design of RIS-based Tx for GPSM using Barium Strontium Titanate film suggest feasibility and EM-compliance. Our numerical experiments using maximum likelihood detector at the receiver demonstrate that the BER performance of our RIS-aided GPSM is as good as or better than the conventional MIMO systems. The RIS-GPSM retains the same spectral efficiency as conventional MIMO but has a higher energy efficiency.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114872542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such approaches are usually solved using handcrafted 2D features resulting as simple geometrical shape landmarks. The main problems of such features are: (1) they are not robust enough and (2) are often lost or incorrectly matched over consecutive frames and (3) they do not carry any semantic information. In this paper, we propose to consider higher level semantic objects as landmarks. We focus on Traffic Signs that are excellent candidates for this role: they have a simple geometrical shape, can be easily detected and carry a strong semantic information. We propose to include such new high level landmarks into an EKF-SLAM framework. For this purpose, we developed an efficient way to estimate the 7 degrees of freedom of polygonal and circular traffic signs from a single stereo-vision observation to initialize such landmarks in a very accurate way so it can be easily used in the EKF based estimation process.","PeriodicalId":248190,"journal":{"name":"2020 54th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130285239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
