In this clinical study, the objective was to investigate the correlation between interpupillary distance (IPD), inner inter-canthal distance (ICAD) and inter-canine width of maxillary anterior teeth (ICW).\u0000Methods: The subjects were comfortably seated on a dental chair in a relaxed state in an upright position with the head resting firmly against the headrest. The parameters were measured using a digital caliper. To determine IPD, the midpoint of the pupils was marked and measured. Likewise, the width of ICAD was assessed by measuring between the medial angle of the palpebral fissure of the eyes. The inter-canine width of maxillary anteriors form the distal surface of left and right canines were measured with a dental floss, which was then sectioned and measured. Each parameter was measured thrice, and the average value was calculated and recorded.\u0000Results: Mean IPD, ICAD and ICW were 60.8 mm, 31.5 mm and 49.7 mm respectively. Statistical analysis revealed a highly significant difference between IPD and ICW teeth of male and female respectively. Spearman's rho analysis showed statistically significant correlation between ICW and IPD (r=0.156, p =0.006). Similarly, Spearman's rho analysis in male group also showed statistically significant correlation between ICW and IPD (r= 0.374, p=0.00025).\u0000Conclusion: This study concluded that there was significant correlation between interpupillary distance and ICW. The measurement of IPD can serve as a valuable reference for guiding the selection and placement of artificial maxillary anterior teeth.

This leads to differential movement of the maxilla and mandible causing changes in glenoid fossa and condylar position. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the condylar position in patients with different skeletal sagittal malocclusion patterns.\u0000Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted among 165 individuals, having skeletal Class I, Class II and Class III relationship (55 in each group) selected by convenience sampling method after receiving ethical approval and informed consent. Lateral cephalograms were taken and measurements for determining condylar position were done and compared among three groups. Data were analyzed in SPSS version 16. Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to determine the mean difference in between condylar positions of three skeletal malocclusion patterns and Mann-Whitney U test was done for their pairwise comparison.\u0000Results: There was no significant difference in posterior cranial base length (P=0.200) and saddle angle (P=0.517) in three skeletal malocclusion class groups. However, the three malocclusion patterns showed significant differences in gonian angle (P=0.001) and articular angle (P=0.013). Significant moderate negative correlation in saddle angle and articular angle (P<0.001) was observed.\u0000Conclusion: The findings of this study concluded that condylar position based on posterior cranial base length was not associated with different skeletal malocclusion patterns. However, articular angle was significantly lower in skeletal class III than in class II.

Continuous innovations in implant design and approaches for placement have been proposed to achieve good osseointegration, esthetics and predictable soft tissue contour. Soft tissue level (STL) implants are placed trans-mucosally with platform away from alveolar bone crest so the microbial deposits in the micro-gap at implant abutment connection has less effect on alveolar bone. This type of implant has a rough surface placed subcrestally to facilitate osseointegration and a polished coronal part to facilitate soft tissue adaptation. However, any alterations made in OVD will also influence the lip position mainly during rest and smile. This study aims to determine the influence of the vertical dimension of occlusion on lip positions at a smile.\u0000Methods: 30 samples between the age group of 20 - 30 years were included in this study meeting the selection criteria. The acrylic splint of varying thicknesses of +2mm, +4mm, +6mm, +8mm was prepared on the dental stone cast of a patient that was articulated in a semi-adjustable articulator after tentative facebow transfer. Smile photograph of each individual at the occlusal vertical dimension of +0mm, +2mm, +4mm, +6mm, +8mm was taken using a DSLR camera mounted on a tripod using the prepared acrylic splints. Digital measurements were done in photographs using the Adobe Photoshop software.\u0000Results: The study's results demonstrate that increasing the OVD significantly affects the inter labial distance, incisal edge to lower lip distance, and the display zone area. However, the study found no notable alterations in the distance from the incisal edge to the upper lip or in the intercommissural width with the same increased OVD. These findings demonstrate on how changes in OVD can influence various orofacial measurements.\u0000Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, it can be concluded that with the increase in the OVD, inter labial distance, incisal edge to lower lip distance, and display zone area are increased. But upper lip position and inter commissural width should not be expected to be changed with increased OVD.

The study aims to evaluate the survival of GIC restorations on primary molar teeth of dental patients attending College of Medical Sciences, Chitwan.\u0000Methods: A retrospective longitudinal study was conducted among the patients who were treated with, at least one GIC restoration (GC Fuji II/GC Fuji IX GP) in their primary molars during the past three years. Data were collected to assess the demographic variables like gender, economic status and mother’s education; restoration-related variables like no of surfaces involved, type of material used, location of the restoration in oral cavity, and age of restoration and; outcome related variable i.e. survival of restoration (survived / failed). United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria was used to determine survival. Data analysis was done using software SPSS version 17. Chi-square tests were carried out to find out the association between dependent and independent variables. Significance level was set at p<0.05.\u0000Results: The 1-3 years cumulative survival rate of the GIC restoration in primary molars was found to be 74.5%. The survival rates for 1 year, 2 years and 3 years were found to be 93.5%, 78.6% and 62.5% respectively. There was no significant association between the survival of the restoration and location of the tooth in oral cavity and sociodemographic indicators like gender, age, economic status and mother’s education. However, statistically significant association was found between survival of restoration and type of restorative material, number of surfaces involved and age of restoration. Type VIII GIC had a higher survival rate (85.7%) compared to Type II GIC (68.2%), and single-surface restorations had a higher survival rate (84.9%) compared to two-surface restorations (52.3%).\u0000Conclusion: Our findings suggest that GIC can be used for restoring primary molars, particularly as single-surface restorative material. It also suggests that Type VIII GIC can more effective in restoring the primary molars as compared to the conventional Type II GIC.

Yttria-stabilized Zirconia (3Y-TZP) ceramic is considered an acceptable material for prosthetic rehabilitation due to its high fracture resistance, biocompatibility, biomechanical stability, and better color matching compared to the traditional porcelain fused to metal restorations. Tetragonal stabilized polycrystalline zirconia (TZP: tetragonal zirconia polycrystal) is doped with 3 mol% yttrium oxide (3Y-TZP).The opaque appearance of zirconia is a key challenge in obtaining optimum esthetics. These restorations are typically veneered with a weak glassy phase ceramic to mask the opaque appearance. The risk of delamination and chipping of ceramic veneer from such layered prostheses is a major concern. High masticatory load in posterior teeth, poor framework design, inadequate thickness of ceramic veneer, contamination of zirconia substructure, low elastic modulus and thermal conductive of zirconia compared to veneer porcelain could be some of the factors leading to such catastrophic failures.Various methods have been developed to increase the translucency of zirconia such as increasing the percentage of the cubic phase, increasing sintering temperature, reducing impurities, altering yttria content, and reducing the grain size. With higher yttrium doping, the proportion of cubic phase zirconia is increased by 25 % for 4Y-TZP and 53 % for 5Y-TZP, which allows for improved translucency. However, with the increase in the cubic phase proportion, there is a risk of reduced strength, due to a reduction in the extent of transformation toughening.More recently, new monolithic multi-layer zirconia has been developed with a color gradient from the incisal to the cervical third, miming natural tooth color. Different grades of the translucent blank are available such as High Translucent Multi-layered (HTML), Super Translucent Multi-layered (STML), and Ultra Translucent Multi-layer zirconia (UHTML). Multi-layer zirconia discs consist of different layers with varying degrees of transparency: the outer enamel layer, transitions layers, and an inner body layer. This new innovative multilayer polychromatic zirconia blank allows technicians to work with a nearly universal zirconia blank. However, more researches ensuring the optimum mechanical properties of newer products are necessary before they can be safely used in all clinical scenarios.
