The performance index considered for minimization is ITAE criterion. Importance of any interconnected power system is to provide a better quality of power to the consumers. For this reason, the parameters of PID controller are optimized by PICBO and the responses are analyzed in terms of settling time, peak overshoot and peak time. The results are compared with the existing results of Time Varying Acceleration Coefficients with Dominant Social Component Particle Swarm Optimization (TVACDSC PSO) technique. Finally, it is concluded with the identification of better optimization technique which provides solution for supply of better quality of power to consumers in an interconnected power system.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122230322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such wearable sensors may be used for early detection of abnormal conditions for preventive actions in monitoring individual health. However, it is challenging to estimate heart rates using PPG signals with high accuracy due to the irregular motion artifacts, thus making the estimation of heart rate unreliable. In this paper, we proposed the use of Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) followed by Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) for noise reduction of the PPG signals. We calculated the heart beat rate per minute (BPM) from the reconstructed PPG signals and evaluated the performance of the proposed method in terms of Absolute Maximum Error (AME) and Mean Sum Error (MSE) with the provided ground-truth BPM computed from ECG signals. We have shown an improvement in the MSE values from 67% of the datasets used in this study. We also analyzed the relationship between the performances obtained based the level of movement intensity which are measured using the accelerometer.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130153782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A product of any two suitable classical filtering functions either from the same or different classes can form a hybrid dual-band filtering functions. Under multi-stage predistortion reflection mode technique, the predistorted hybrid lowpass reflection function can be synthesized using unified cascaded synthesis. This yields multiple lumped Brune sections and second order cross-coupled Brune sections to be extracted. To prove the synthesis, a 4th order hybrid Chebyshev and Butterworth filtering has been synthesized and simulated in Advanced System Design (ADS).","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130329901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, least mean fourth (LMF) algorithm and its variants, such as normalized LMF (NLMF), perform better in the non-Gaussian environment. The conventional LMF algorithms usually diverge in non-Gaussian environment with dynamic input. Conventionally, regularization is archived by using a small constant compensation term in the denominator of the learning rate to protect the algorithm from divergence. This paper introduces an efficient time-varying regularized normalized least mean fourth (R-NLMF) algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, the regularization term is made time varying and gradient adaptive according to steepest descent approach. Thus the proposed algorithm adapts its learning rate according to the environment and the input signal dynamics. A similar approach, namely Generalized Normalized Gradient Descent (GNGD) algorithm, has been previously applied to the normalized least mean-square (NLMS) algorithm in the Gaussian environment. However, due to its dependence on NLMS, the GNGD algorithm performance degrades in non-Gaussian environment. In order to overcome this problem, an efficient regularized NLMF algorithm for non-Gaussian environment is proposed. The algorithm shows promising results and achieves faster convergence while maintaining lesser steady-state miss-adjustment. Simulations are carried out to support the theoretical development.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127162794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To find optimum sizes and locations of BSI units, two indices, namely, minimum power injection (MPI), and minimum active power loss index (MAPLI) are used. BSI units can supply active and reactive power, are used to improve system voltage profile and reduce system losses. To investigate the dynamic effects, instead of conventionally used fixed peak load, a 24-hour time varying load model is used. To supply active and reactive power, BSI units are attached to all buses, but at one bus each time, with sizes starting from 0 and are further increased with a rate of 0.5 KVA, meanwhile the two indices are calculated for every bus for each hour. Method is tested on IEEE-33 bus test distribution network and results are presented. The results show that utilization of BSI can improve the voltage profile and can reduce the system losses up to 78% in distribution networks. The study also suggests that best time for utilizing of stored energy is during the peak load hours.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122946744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This machine was developed for ceiling fan application to increase the efficiency of the system. The five optimization designs have different split ratio and pole pitch ratio and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has been performed to predict the performance of the designs by analyzing the open circuit flux distribution, air gap flux density and the back EMF. The optimal value of the split ratio is identified to be 0.52 and the pole pitch ratio is 0.5. The split ratio simulation verified that the flux distribution, air gap flux density and the back EMF are affected by the air gap radius. On the other hand, the pole pitch ratio optimization analysis proved that the average value of back EMF is decreasing and the flux distribution of the air gap is fluctuated as the arc length angle between the North-pole and South-pole is unbalanced. Overall, good achievement was achieved.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117087026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Irreversible electroporation is the cell lysis process in which the application of electric field permanently permeabilizes the cell membrane, allowing the intercellular content to eject out for downstream genetic analysis. The device geometry can be manipulated for fluid transport and irreversible electroporation. Our study concentrates on the effect of voltage, flow velocity, geometry and the location of cells inside the device for efficient irreversible electroporation. Our results show that by controlling the applied voltage, cells can be irreversibly electroporated. The flow velocity influences irreversible electroporation. If the flow velocity is greater than the resident velocity of the cell, the pores on the membrane will reseal thereby resulting in reversible electroporation. The nanofluidic channels increase the duration of electroporation as the larger cells cannot pass through them.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"8 3-4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114132168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
