Absorption limits the visibility due to light attenuation while scattering blurs the image features, ultimately the underwater images captured by the camera in such a medium, are hazy and degraded as compared to the normal images taken in the atmosphere. In this paper, we are proposing a wavelet-based fusion method to enhance and dehaze the underwater hazy images of corroded pipeline. The main aim of this research is to inspect the underwater pipelines for the corrosion estimation. There are three main stages in the proposed method. At the initial stage, the hazy underwater image of corroded pipeline is enhanced by adjusting its contrast and the color profiles. In the second stage, the wavelet-based decomposition and inverse composition are performed to fuse the enhanced versions into a dehazed image. At the final stage, the corrosion on the surface of the pipeline is estimated. In order to validate the performance, the corrosion is estimated in both hazy and dehazed image.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124380630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Induction motor fault can lead to huge losses and excessive downtimes with regards to maintenance and production. An external fault like unbalanced voltage supply could be very sever and result in excessive losses, mechanical oscillations, overvoltage, and interference with control electronics. Detection of an abnormality like unbalanced voltage supply is a challenging task in the interaction of electrical motor and the power grid. In this paper, a new method is presented to diagnose unbalanced voltage supply at the incipient stage. In the proposed method, first of all, a new approach is introduced to formulate the total number of winding turns associated with a particular slot. After the formulation, the unbalanced voltage supply is diagnosed through signal processing, symbolic time series analysis and D-Markov state transition. The proposed method also distinguishes motor operation under balanced and unbalanced voltage supply. In the proposed work, hardware setup is designed for experimental verification. For validation of the method, an experimental setup is designed to justify and distinguish the motor operation under balanced and unbalanced voltage supply.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125677962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The strain goes away after the eyes have been relaxed and kept away from the screen for some time; however, prolonged exposure may cause dryness and irritability. The eye-strain is monitored by a laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG) system in this study. The LSFG system measures and displays choroidal vascular maps providing relative blood flow readings. The results show consistently high erythrocyte movement after watching low definition and low quality video for long time. Moreover, it is also observed that the blood flow tends to stabilize itself after relaxing the eyes for a couple of hours.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132780589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to its importance, several optical flow technique have been used in order to estimate the velocity and the direction of the pedestrians in the crowded scenes. This paper presents an overview of the optical flow methods that used mainly for pedestrian and crowd motion detection. The work focuses on the conventional optical flow method such as Lucas & Kanade and Horn & Schunck methods as well as the most recent methods such as Classic+NL that combines the classic formulation with a new non-local term. The improvement in computational efficiency and increasing interest in robust and accurate motion estimation algorithms lead to increase in the use of optical flow in crowd analytic applications. The implementation of optical flow algorithms is investigated and an evaluation of those techniques is provided qualitatively as well as quantitatively. The qualitative analysis illustrates the optical flow performance in terms of large motion, occlusion, motion discontinuities, illumination and different light condition. Quantitative analysis is in terms of computational time and accuracy.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132201335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Simultaneous measurements of fNIRS and EEG signals were conducted on 12 subjects while solving arithmetic problems under two different conditions (control and stress). The stressors in this work were time pressure and negative feedback of individual performance. The study demonstrated significant reduction in the concentration of oxygenated haemoglobin (p=0.0032) and alpha rhythm power (p=0.0213) on the prefrontal cortex (PFC) under stress condition. Specifically, the right PFC and dorsolateral PFC were highly sensitive to mental stress. Using support vector machine (SVM), the mean detection rate of mental stress was 91%, 95% and 98% using fNIRS, EEG and fusion of fNIRS and EEG signals, respectively.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"163 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129255752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The maturing technology of explosion proof LED (ExLED) lightings in the recent years has provided an opportunity for the industry to take a fresh perspective in lighting design. The plummeting oil price has also forced operating companies to devise innovative ways to keep the capital and operating expenditure as low as reasonably possible without jeopardising safety. This paper explains the advantages of using ExLED lightings in hazardous areas and presents the significant total cost of ownership savings that can be achieved through a life cycle cost analysis performed for explosion proof LED and conventional lightings, for a period of ten (10) years for a particular platform module. Findings in this paper are presented from an end-user perspective in the offshore oil and gas industry and detailed development of the LED lighting technology itself is not a scope of this paper.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129059312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Herein, we proposed an optimized time domain channel estimation scheme with high accuracy and low complexity. In proposed correlation error cancellation (CEC) solution, the larger part of actual channel estimation solution is estimated from no-guard band (without null sub-carriers) solution, which can be easily obtained by choosing appropriate pilot design. In order to estimate the complete actual solution, the correction term can be obtained from the difference in the actual transmitted pilot and the pilot used for no-guard-band solution. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed CEC solution reduces the complexity up to 0(L2) in one-step of iteration and achieves accuracy close to Cramer Rao Bound (CRB).","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115913890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A DC-DC boost converter was modelled using averaged state space method for controller design and dynamic analysis. PID controllers were designed using three different PID tuning methods; namely the Ziegler-Nichols frequency domain method, damped oscillation method and Good Gain method. The Matlab/Simulink was used to model and analyse the system transient response in terms of rise time, settling time, percentage overshoot and steady state error to step change input for their suitability in power supply design application. Among the three methods, the damped oscillation method demonstrated moderate fast rise and settling time with the advantage of lower overshoot to set point change.","PeriodicalId":247287,"journal":{"name":"2016 6th International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129173079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
