The dynamic response of terminal voltage, active power and reactive power are evaluated using time-domain simulations obtained from DIgSILENT® PowerFactory™. The assessment of the variability is performed based on probability density function, Pearson correlation coefficient and scatterplots. Results of this evaluation demonstrated that variable speed wind turbines using synchronous generator exhibits the better dynamic performance considering the wind speed changes, and highlight the need of smart grid oriented control strategies aiming at coordinated management of individual wind turbine controllers to avoid adverse implications of wind speed fluctuation.","PeriodicalId":244881,"journal":{"name":"2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe)","volume":"249 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129314786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These applications (distributed state estimation, power restoration, monitoring of assets) emerge from the large-scale deployment of sensors and instrumentation devices, responsive loads and embedded generation. Their introduction requires HPC strategy. A HiPerDNO HPC platform, which takes into account DNOs' and applications requirements, has been built and several applications were developed and tested on it. In this paper we report on the results achieved.","PeriodicalId":244881,"journal":{"name":"2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130758767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prediction of time-series of PV generation output is too complicated to handle. The proposed method focuses on the improvement of the prediction model accuracy with a hybrid intelligent system. It consists of the precondition of input data and the predictor of multi-step ahead PV generation output. The former deals with clustering of input data to improve the performance of the predictor. It is very useful to classify data into some clusters and construct the prediction model at each cluster so that the prediction is improved due to the data similarity in the cluster. As the clustering method, DA (Deterministic Annealing) Clustering of global clustering is used due to the good performance. On the other hand, the latter makes use of an advanced GRBFN (Generalized Radial Basis Function Network) of ANN (Artificial Neural Network) as the predictor. As a result, the proposed method provides better results than the conventional ones. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated to real data of short time prediction of PV systems.","PeriodicalId":244881,"journal":{"name":"2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130600592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

EVs could be charged at night simultaneously, as a result, severe voltage drop may happen. Typical charger for EV employs the self-commutated inverter, which can control both active and reactive powers in principle. The authors are investigating the availability of EVs for the distribution system operation qualitatively, and have proposed voltage regulation algorithms using EVs. This paper proposes a wind power stabilization system using long-term and short-term energy storage devices and a static synchronous compensator. The proposed system can effectively stabilize the output fluctuations of wind turbines by controlling the active and reactive power at point of common coupling. This system is installed on Jeju Smart Grid Test-Bed. It has been operating connected to the 22.9kV distribution system. This paper presents an approach that puts the intelligence needed into the EVs, where most of the crucial information arise, thus minimizing the need of communication throughout the grid. The EVs shall be enabled to decide on a charging strategy using an optimization algorithm which creates a charging schedule based on the charging point's and the EV's capabilities, user input, battery degradation and a variable tariff for electricity. This algorithm has been implemented in a control device called the mobile Smart Meter (mSM), which is embedded in the EV, enabling it to handle the necessary communication and to create and monitor an optimized charging strategy. The results of a small-scale field trial shown in this paper delivered the proof of concept of the developed system.","PeriodicalId":244881,"journal":{"name":"2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116158343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two methods are used to predict shadow impact. The first method is based on traditional textbook “Clear Sky” equations, which have maximum sensitivity to shadows because every day is a perfect day. The second method uses measured global-horizontal and diffuse-horizontal solar radiation in units of W/m2, which take into account the true variety of daily conditions. The calculations are performed for 1 square meter surfaces, over the 1 square kilometer area, for every second of the day. For purposes of shadow calculations, the tip-top height (i.e., tower height plus blade length) is used.","PeriodicalId":244881,"journal":{"name":"2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116679001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The typical regulation signal is first investigated along with the current regulation market price to estimate the unit income for the transferred energy. The available energy for a battery until its end-of-life (EOL) is estimated using the specifications prepared by an authoritative battery consortium, USABC, to generalize the result. Based on the estimates obtained, a prospective income for the V2G regulation is estimated and compared with current battery prices. The result shows that the expected V2G income overwhelms current battery price, and thus it clearly appears to be an economically prospective service.","PeriodicalId":244881,"journal":{"name":"2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122605253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In application domain of power distribution network analysis (DNA), clean separation between engineering data model and operational (run-time) data model must be maintained. Until explicit request to import changes from engineering data model into operational data model, operational data model must not be affected with changes in engineering data model. The process of activation introduces changes prepared within engineering data model into operational data model and thus put them in use. This paper outlines algorithm for efficient data model change management and activation process. This approach provides efficient handling of data model changes regarding memory and disc space usage. It allows fast switching to previous data models, allows arbitrary long history about past activations; and simplifies incident and what-if analysis for any of previous configurations.","PeriodicalId":244881,"journal":{"name":"2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122773017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
