Development of wind power stabilization system using BESS and STATCOM
The intermittent nature of renewable energy resources gives difficulty in power system operation and generation control. This paper proposes a wind power stabilization system using long-term and short-term energy storage devices and a static synchronous compensator. The proposed system can effectively stabilize the output fluctuations of wind turbines by controlling the active and reactive power at point of common coupling. This system is installed on Jeju Smart Grid Test-Bed. It has been operating connected to the 22.9kV distribution system. The operation results show that proposed system effectively performs the smoothing and constant power control functions.
