A major issue in the design of Wireless Sensor Networks is to develop strategies to make efficient use of its energy and to increase the reliability of data. In this paper, we address the problem of routing the data in an hostile environment.The proposed approach reduces both energy consumption as well as communication bandwidth requirements. It also prolongs the lifetime of the wireless sensor network. Saqib","doi":"10.1109/ICEE.2009.5173179","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICEE.2009.5173179","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents an efficient implementation scheme for the closed-loop speed control of an induction motor with constant V/f, slip regulation and incorporating ‘space vector pulse width modulation’ (SVPWM). The system is an embedded system which incorporates an 8-bit reduced instruction set computer (MCU) to implement the speed control and the modulation scheme. Scalar control is inferior to the modern field oriented control in terms of efficiency and response time but it requires considerably lesser hardware resources. Use of space vector modulation as the modulation technique gives a better harmonic response and higher efficiency as compared to the normal regular sampled pulse width modulation techniques. The drive incorporates optimized algorithms and low cost hardware to provide a better cost-performance relationship. Several algorithms, some for scheduling battery power e.g. Dynamic Voltage Scheduling, Static Voltage Scheduling, Dynamic Power Management etc and other with emphasis on designing efficient routing protocols have been designed in past. Some algorithms, however, address this very issue at software level by writing memory and CPU friendly programs. This paper proposes Self Organizing Maps (SOM) based unsupervised Artificial Neural Network learning technique to enhance average battery life. Proposed system allows all active nodes to transmit their sensory data to the base station node (BSN) which has a 2×3 SOM running on it. Sensor nodes start sending data to the BSN; it keeps on making categories and puts relevant data in appropriate categories/ classes. SOM is trained after it has received a number of such transmissions from active nodes. Class definitions are then broadcast to all active nodes by BSN and from then onwards they transmit only the class definitions (that are fairly lesser in size) to BSN and hence significant battery power is conserved. The design starts with simulation of single patch in Matlab® followed by its optimization in Advanced Design System (ADS) Momentum for high gain. It was achieved by over sizing the patch dimensions and making it resonant at the same desired center frequency. A four element array of such patches was designed. Intra-element spacing and feed line dimensions were optimized for low sidelobes and impedance matching with transmitter. Then three such arrays were used to design a 3 × 4 element array. Inter-array spacing was optimized to achieve low sidelobes. The design was simulated and optimized in Momentum employing Method of Moments (MoM) to take into account the effect of mutual couplings of all the elements. The arrays were fabricated and tested in anechoic chamber. When this non-sinusoidal current passes through the impedance of the line/cable, it causes considerable distortion in voltage. This distorted voltage in a parallel connection scheme appears at the LT/HT sides of distribution transformer and causes significant effects on equipment performance which are designed to operate at sinusoidal voltage and current only. In this research paper, the complete distribution network of Rachna College of Engineering & Technology (RCET), Pk has been simulated using Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) software. For this purpose an experiment has been performed in which current waveform drawn by a PC along with its spectrum has been recorded using oscilloscope at RCET Research Lab as prototype. This model of a single PC is injected into the harmonic library of ETAP for simulation of RCET distribution network. The impacts of harmonics caused by PC's on distribution transformers have been completely analyzed in this research work. The input output samples were obtained using simulations in Matlab Simulink; which were used for extensive training of network. With calculated weights and biases, the neural network was implemented using PIC microcontroller. The designed ANN model and speed controller receives command voltage and reference speed as the inputs and generates pulse width modulated waves for three phase inverter-bridge. The designed system controls the frequency and stator voltage keeping V/f ratio constant. Results, harmonic analysis with designed ANN structure and cost comparison with other techniques is presented. The ray based optical HF technique ‘Geometrical Optics (GO)’ enhanced by Geometrical Theory of Diffraction (GTD) predicts accurate radiation pattern but suffers caustics at focal point. On the other hand wave based optical HF technique ‘Physical Optics (PO)’ predicts antenna main lobe & near-in side lobes accurately but is less accurate for far-out side lobes. PO when supported by Physical Theory of Diffraction (PTD) displays improved accuracy for far-out side lobes. The PO technique is slower than GO for radiation pattern calculation of large reflector antennas. In this paper a review of HF techniques is presented. The techniques were applied for radiation pattern analysis of a 30m earth station antenna @ 40GHz for radio astronomy. It has not only confused the power utilities but also has attracted the attention of its customers and equipment manufacturers. Although extensive research work is being done in this field but one of the main problem encountered by its stake holders is the voltage unbalance in electrical power system. The problem of voltage unbalance has affected the safety, reliability and economic efficiency at all levels in power industry. In this research Computational Intelligence Techniques have been used for efficiently predicting the power factor of unbalanced load of a power distribution system. The Principal Component Analysis Technique was used to find the optimized number of new dimensions of PQ data. Finally Feed Forward Back Propagation (FFBP) algorithm was used to estimate the power factor of a distribution network by analyzing the real power system parameters. This research highlights the importance of maintaining power factor close to unity for power utilities to achieve sustainable availability of quality supply of electrical power for its customers.
