Among them, some tried to explain the causes of Romanian corruption and usually reached a fatalistic conclusion. My article focuses on the theories of historical origins of Romanian corruption. The first is the transition period from communism to democracy, which first brought societal anomy and the arbitrary or discretionary redistribution of power and resources. This state of affairs revealed older corrupt practices, but also encouraged more subversive corruption configurations. Another theory refers to the communist practices and values. I make an observation on the contradictory nature of corruption in this era: Corruption had a negative effect on the communist state, but it led to the achievement of ambitious results through the informal network. There is also a question I ask: is it possible for corruption to be legitimate when the government becomes illegitimate? The last theory on the origin of Romanian corruption is the experience of Balkanism and Orientalism and I try to discuss the scientific fairness in analysing corruption by referring to a historical moment that does not recognize it as such.","PeriodicalId":244215,"journal":{"name":"Revista CICSA online, Serie Nouă","volume":"359 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115984880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper will take into consideration relevant examples of archaeological discoveries that can suggest, in a synoptic manner, the role played by water in different contexts. The paper will try to outline the general character of the ancient water management system employed in the Șureanu Mountains, thus suggesting a specific trait of the archaeological milieu present in the area. Furthermore, by presenting the specific characteristics of some water management installations, we will be able to observe the differences between them.","PeriodicalId":244215,"journal":{"name":"Revista CICSA online, Serie Nouă","volume":"9 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132285360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, this paper focuses on discussing how and why the fire was interpreted as an omen announcing emperor Commodus’ impending end especially by the historian Dio Cassius. Later on, we will shift towards a post factum state of events and consider how the damages caused by the flames created the frame for Emperor Severus to implement his visual policies by the means of architectural restoration. The wider spectrum we will scrutinise throughout the article is that of fire as a signifier for both a decaying reign and the start of a new one.","PeriodicalId":244215,"journal":{"name":"Revista CICSA online, Serie Nouă","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121385249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
