Not only in the pioneering age of archaeology but also recently, these classes of artefacts arose serious problems of interpretation. The present paper investigates some hypothesis regarding the function of clay spools and clay weights of pyramidal and conical shape, associated by some archaeologists with the craft of making pottery or with cooking and fireplaces. These hypotheses will be discussed in the context of the recent progress made in the field of archaeological textiles, taking into account the complex methodology of research of clay implements which was refined in the last decades based on extensive archaeological research, including archaeological experiments. This contribution aims to clarify some confusions regarding the function of clay spools and clay weights, by confronting the old interpretations, often ungrounded, with the current state of research, proving that the functional parameters of an implement together with the excavation context and with the information brought by iconographic representations are definitory in accurately establishing the function of these puzzling classes of artefacts.","PeriodicalId":244215,"journal":{"name":"Revista CICSA online, Serie Nouă","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126327667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distinguishing constantly between what was desirable and what was repulsive, between the ideal and the imperfect, ad makers employed a series of visual and textual representations of the female body as a means to create a polarized and reductionist discourse, which in turn aimed to reduce the number and validity of definitions attached to femininity. The resulting symbolic antithesis stated that a beautiful woman was a model of social, economic and personal success, in stark opposition to the woman that did not value her physical appearance, doomed to live an unhappy and meaningless life, bereft of familial or professional fulfillment. This article will argue that representations of the female body created by the interwar advertising discourse played an important role in the structuring and dissemination of specific gender roles, expectations and stereotypes associated with femininity. The study is centered on qualitative analysis of a selection of ads printed between 1927 and 1940 in a well-known Romanian popular magazine – “Realitatea Ilustrată”.Printed interwar advertisements articulated a discourse that served both to promote specific meanings attached to femininity – physical beauty as a central social and symbolic female quality – and to define precise social sanctions that could be applied to women that did not know or follow normative beauty standards. After going through a significant part of the theological literature that deals with aesthetics written by Romanian authors such as Nichifor Crainic, Dumitru Stăniloae, Ioan Bizău, Mihaela Palade, etc., and by internationally well-known Orthodox theologians translated into Romanian such as Paul Evdokimov and Leonid Uspensky, we are able to highlight the main features of a coagulated Orthodox vision on modern and contemporary artists, art movements and artistic phenomena. There is a general agreement among Orthodox theologians that Renaissance was the age when the spirit of individuality and formal freedoms entered art, which led to a distancing of artworks and artists from God. Also, modern art and contemporary art are usually regarded as harmful to the human soul and to its Salvation. These views also reverberate among some circles of Romanian visual artists and art critics with strong Orthodox personal beliefs. Furthermore, this aesthetic vision might partially explain why the Romanian Orthodox Church has remained fairly uninterested in recent art phenomena and why it hasn’t tried to establish a theological or practical dialogue with the artworld, in the past few decades.","PeriodicalId":244215,"journal":{"name":"Revista CICSA online, Serie Nouă","volume":"374 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115305099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Local elites play a defining role as regards urban space because they are involved, to a lesser or higher extent (depending on the time and area), in the construction of public buildings. Also, urban development directly affects the elites causing changes in terms of their way of referring to the urban space. The degree of building development throughout the territory of Italy is not uniform. As a matter of fact, a different level and pace of public buildings constructions is observed between the regions in Italy. Furthermore, the article presents and briefly discusses the most important ideas and work assumptions which have marked the research at the end of the twentieth-century, with regard to urbanity in the Roman antiquity.","PeriodicalId":244215,"journal":{"name":"Revista CICSA online, Serie Nouă","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131450115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The geographic disposition of the Empire, inside the space called Mesopotamia, privileged the development of an antagonism towards the foreigner, due to the idea that the interior of the Empire is cultivated, well-structured, whereas the foreigners are uncultivated, savages, and chaotic.Myths, epics, royal inscriptions, and iconography are all important media that enable the diffusion of this ideology. The combat myths and their iconography present, in a symbolic way, the royal idea that the strangers are bad, that they represent a grave danger, therefore they have to be exterminated by the Assyrian king, the human correspondent of the gods. The way the monsters are described in all these mythological compositions parallels the one that describe the strangers and enemies. The Assyrian palatial reliefs, and also the minor arts use this motif in a recurrent way. The image of the tortured and decapitated enemy becomes the symbol of his defeat, of the Otherness, but most importantly, the symbol of the victorious Assyrians.","PeriodicalId":244215,"journal":{"name":"Revista CICSA online, Serie Nouă","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128126868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

BC) only the popular name Dionysios and probably letters from a patronym are preserved; the second (no. 2, fig. 4, late Hellenistic-early Roman) has preserved four letters of another popular name in Istros, Artemidoros, while from the third (no. 3, fig. 6, 3rd-1st c. The present contribution starts with an overview of the current research and then examines several controversial or unexplored issues. The Greek text was copied from a Latin source and one of the misspellings indicate the original was written in cursive. The itinerary was probably created by private initiative and it described a maritime route. The double name of the Danube is unlikely to contain a reference to the city of Histria. Finally, the reception of this text in Romanian historiography has been shaped by an influential study published more than 70 years ago, which unfortunately caused the proliferation of some fictitious mentions of settlements on the western coasts of the Black Sea.","PeriodicalId":244215,"journal":{"name":"Revista CICSA online, Serie Nouă","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123338426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
