This paper present an alternative inverter principle, which simplifies control hardware and reduces switching losses compared to PWM techniques, yet provides acceptable voltage and current waveforms. In this paper, the influence of dead time is investigated. The on-line space voltage vector modulation method is used for a current controller. It is possible to compensate dead time by space voltage vector modulation which generates additional pulse compensating voltage distortion caused by dead time. In addition, a narrow pulse which is generally neglected can be compensated. All the algorithms, including field-oriented control are performed by one chip microprocessor 80C196MC and DSP TMS320C31. As compared with conventional flux-weakening control, the approach has definite advantages in that it can be applied to squarewave PM brushless motor drives directly, and even to motor drives with negligible mutual inductances between phase windings. Moreover, it is easier to implement than flux-weakening control because no coordinate transformation is needed. The key of this approach is to make use of the transformer EMF in such a way that it weakens the rotational EMF when the motor operates above the base speed, leading to achieve the constant power operation. Three methods are described and compared. One method uses microprocessor controlled power electronics to replace the electrical machines of the existing dual frequency equivalent load technique. The second method uses microprocessor controlled power electronics to rapidly modulate the machine's supply frequency. The third method uses microprocessor controlled power electronics to produce a rotating magnetic field which rotates at constant speed but with sinusoidally varying magnitude. The essential idea is to: (1) define a dynamically changed reference trajectory in the error and error derivative plain, known as a \"sliding trajectory\"; (2) compute the error area between the sliding trajectory and the effective one with a special algorithm, using this quantity as a performance index to evaluate the system response; (3) draw a fuzzy relationship between a PI gain correction parameter and the performance index; and (4) based on the fuzzy inference mechanism, PI gains are calculated and tuned. The proposed method has been verified through simulations using the speed control of a PM synchronous motor drive system as a testbed. Because of resonant switching in the SEPIC part it was possible to improve the efficiency calculated for one mains period in relationship to standard converter types. As a result the thermal problems can be minimized and the mechanical dimensions optimized. Due to this converter structure and the switching technology, despite the very high switching frequency, this converter is an ideal application area for IGBT. With this arrangement, only marginal reduction in power consumption is achieved even if the amount of flowing fluid is decreased, on account of the constant motor speed at the fixed commercial mains supply frequency. The amount of flowing fluid is directly proportional to the motor speed. The pressure is proportional to the square of it. The axis power, that is also the consumed power, increases in proportion to the cube of the motor speed. Decreasing the motor speed for achieving a reduced flow rate is therefore an effective means of energy saving on account of the reduction in power consumption. However, as is well known, the induction motor is designed such that its speed will increase when its load is lightened. This results in a reduction in its efficiency on account of the deviation from its rated slip. The Supermizer (SMX) introduced in this paper detects motor load variations accurately at a high sampling rate and regulates both the current and the voltage delivered to any motor so as to bring about maximum energy savings by continuously operating along the built-in optimal operating power factor curve without affecting its torque and speed.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":244042,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 1995 International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems. This ballast can supply high frequency power to a metal-halide lamp, one of the HID lamps without an acoustic resonance. The characteristics of the inverter are presented. The proposed ballast is suitable for the metal halide lamps. In this paper, the described charge termination method is based on the detection of the inflexion point in the battery voltage curve.
