A persuasive system could act in shaping the user behaviour towards sustainability, and thereby play a key role in social change. In this respect, understanding different framing effects in persuasive design is crucial, since individual framing and cognition on sustainability plays a major role in the success of persuasion. For dealing with a complex issue, such as achieving sustainability through behavioural change, persuasive design needs to reflect on the potentials of framing effects. In this paper, we have proposed a model of framing effects from which the principles of managing different framing effects of persuasive sustainability design were formulated. The principles were then shown in relations with different dimensions of sustainability and were also used to generate a design space for persuasive sustainability. The proposed model and principles are significant for realizing the effectiveness of different framing effects for the success of a persuasive sustainability.","PeriodicalId":243393,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Academic Mindtrek Conference","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131742961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This diversity makes it significant and challenging for sustainability to be quantified and measured. While the existence of perfect sustainability indicators is relatively unreasonable, they have important pragmatic roles in quantification and measurement by bridging sustainability's three pillars. Information system (IS) and sustainability are popular research areas, which clearly reflect the divergent and multidimensional role of sustainability. Despite this importance, defining the right sustainability indicators for IS is imperceptible. In this paper, we have identified sustainability indicators for IS using previous theoretical frameworks where universal design (UD) and its advance concept were used. Followed by this, a framework of IS sustainability indicators were proposed. The indicators were shown in the form of a design space arrangement, which could play significant roles in assessing sustainability for IS.","PeriodicalId":243393,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Academic Mindtrek Conference","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123236243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some experience their car simply as a practicality, while others are far more attached to it. In this project we investigate the notion of being calm and in control in the car while commuting and propose a concept for enhancing this notion. Based on an iterative design process, we have developed a platform to test different ways of enhancing self-reflection in the car. The concept EgoFlecto is based on a seductive design strategy that aims to alter people's behavior simply through self-reflection and not through a forceful design. The design tries to present the driver with their actions, without requiring different forms of interactions, but by letting the driver interact with the car as usual.","PeriodicalId":243393,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Academic Mindtrek Conference","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125046458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The workshop organizers felt that the traditional model for disseminating scientific knowledge, through pay-walled peer-reviewed journal articles, has become both inefficient and unfair, and that the Open Access to publishing movement solves only part of the problem. The workshop took the four main functions of the academic article as a starting point for the discussion; a) dissemination of scientific knowledge, b) a forum for academic discussion, c) maintaining and monitoring the quality of research and d) determining academic merit. The aim was to reflect on alternative ways of meeting those functions, such that would support the principles of open science (transparency, accessibility, integrity). These alternatives included open research processes, altmetrics and open peer review. The effects of open practices on research integrity were also discussed. Recordings of the workshop presentations are available for viewing at bit.ly/beyond-open-access.","PeriodicalId":243393,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Academic Mindtrek Conference","volume":"326 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120840180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 2-player card game including 61 'staff character cards' and 39 question cards was implemented to be played by the relatively new community. The game period, including supporting events, ran for 5 weeks. After the experiment 59 staff members responded to an online survey on play experiences. The results showed that ways of participation and means of play are more diverse in a work community context than as they are specified in the game rules. More emphasis should be set on framing the game and supporting it as a continuous activity to become a playful practice in the work community. An academic community has inherent contextual prerequisites that need to be addressed in order for a playful practice to gain traction as a means for community building.","PeriodicalId":243393,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Academic Mindtrek Conference","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129818440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A two-part interview study conducted in 2010 and 2013--2014 suggests that from the perspective of game developers, iteration is an essential, natural and important part of the game development -- if not even a trivial part of the process. However, there is much to explore on the differences in practice and opinions revealing distinctive details in iterative processes potentially leading towards more elaborate design philosophies and methods on game development.","PeriodicalId":243393,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Academic Mindtrek Conference","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131417123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated whether gamification can have a positive effect on the amount of user-generated content on online marketplaces. Two similar gamification treatments were designed for the mobile website of OLX India, a marketplace for used goods. The treatments were quantitatively evaluated in a double-blind controlled experiment on 51,103 OLX users, who were randomly selected and evenly assigned to a control group and two treatment groups. The users who actively engaged with either of the treatments created more than 6 times as much content as users who did not engage with the treatments, resulting in an overall content increase of over 18% for the treatment groups compared to the control group. Gamification on online marketplaces is effective for users who actively interact with a treatment, not for all users per se.","PeriodicalId":243393,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Academic Mindtrek Conference","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115713527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present a new game metric, automatically generated from prototype walkthrough data, which flags problematic levels so that developers know where to invest their effort in fixing the game. Created during the development of the commercial game Angus Hates Aliens, in collaboration with indie developer Team Stendec, our death-related problem level likelihood indicator (DPLI) is interpretable and actionable, i.e., it easily allowed the developer to know where to fix the game levels. Finally, DPLI correlated to enjoyment ratings for the game levels, suggesting that it was a good indicator of problems in the context of our prototype evaluation.","PeriodicalId":243393,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th International Academic Mindtrek Conference","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123244168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
