Eto","doi":"10.19044/llc.v9no4a1","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.19044/llc.v9no4a1","url":null,"abstract":"Critical thinking is one of the most demanded skills for educational goals, job security, and problem solving in the lifelong process of 21st - century learners. Thus, various specialised courses in education have adopted approaches that integrate critical thinking throughout the curriculum. From the perspective of English language teaching, teachers, researchers, and syllabus writers are committed to the development of learners’ language acquisition through critical thinking as a language pedagogical approach. Empirical studies have frequently demonstrated a high positive correlation between leaners’ critical thinking skills and their language proficiency gains. However, in the Asian EFL context of higher education, the practice of critical thinking skills in language classrooms is not yet well supported widely. In order to clarify the essential place of critical thinking in EFL education, through the insightful discussion on the relevant literature background, this critical review of the literature suggests ways to improve English language teaching that incorporate critical thinking in three major areas: (1) language teaching instructional strategies that incorporate critical thinking, (2) language teaching materials that incorporate critical thinking, and (3) pedagogical content knowledge about critical thinking skills for language teachers. Therefore, this study aims to raise awareness among teachers, researchers, educational scholars, and regional and national authorities in the Asian EFL higher education context about the representation of critical thinking in language programs and teacher training in the roadmap for future English language education.","PeriodicalId":243248,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Culture","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125279626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As is known, that since the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020 the world has been hit by the corona virus outbreak or commonly called covid-19. The virus has spread almost all over the world, including Indonesia and claimed millions of human lives. To overcome, overcome, and rehabilitate this virus and its effects, the government implements health protocols. Prokes contains government policies that regulate the living system of society in the midst of the spread of the corona virus or often called the new normal life order (New Normal Life). Living in the midst of the spread of covid-19 is a very foreign and new life for humans because that life has never been thought of and experienced before. This environmental change has a significant impact on the way the world community speaks, including Indonesia and Bali.","PeriodicalId":243248,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Culture","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115709078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The qualitative analysis based on the Saussurian and Piercian views on semiotics was applied on a corpus of idioms collected from primary sources with close links with descendants of the kingdom. The results achieved were forceful in disclosing three main patterns of the analysed idioms. First, they uncovered the presence of culturally loaded idiomatic centres that represent the keys to unlocking the intended meanings therein contained. Secondly, the very phrasing of some of the idioms displayed the hierarchical organisation that was intrinsic to the royal court. Thirdly, a further investigation into their intended content disclosed an association of both spoken and sign language in the delivery of the message conveyed through some specific idiomatic expressions of the royal court of Danxome. These results led to the conclusion that the idioms used in this royal court were more than mere language for daily ordinary interactions. Rather, they represented real artefacts, encapsulating the culture, the history and the social relationships that best represent and portray such a restricted social and linguistic community.","PeriodicalId":243248,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Culture","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123640550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of the study is to find out and describe the types of code mixing in Muna language speakers’ utterances. The data of this study were collected through participation, recording, and noting, and then analyzed by using morphological, semantic, and syntactic analysis. The writer used these three kinds of analysis because Muna language is a unique one. It means that one word in Muna language sometimes can be one word or one morpheme only, a phrase, a clause or a simple sentence. Based on the writer interpretation, the result of the study shows that the types of code-mixing found on Muna language speakers’ utterances residing in Yogyakarta are only code mixing on word insertion, phrase insertion, clause insertion, and reduplication insertion.","PeriodicalId":243248,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Culture","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123629053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It used the descriptive qualitative method and collected data through listening, typing, and documentation. Listening and typing techniques involved hearing and typing six informants’ utterances containing rephrases in the Banjarese. The informants comprised three speakers from the Kuala dialect and three from the Hulu dialect. The results indicated four types of reduplication in the Banjarese. These findings strengthen the theory of reduplication in the morphology of the Banjarese.
