Methods: it is a retrospective cohort study, wich included 126 patient chorts lhat had clinical and clinical and laboratory diagnosis of sepsis were considered eligible. The conditional probability of death was calculated through the Kaplan-Meier method and the risk of death was estimated by the hazard ratio, using a Cox regression model with p<0.050. Results: a total of 124 patients were included in the study. The main focus of infection was the respiratory system. Regarding the outcome, 40.3% patients with sepsis, 73.9% with severe sepsis and 69.2% with septic shock died. Patients with abdominal sepsis and using vasopressors were at higher risk of death. Conclusion: septic patients with abdominal source of infection and using vasopressor agents had a higher risk of dying, while patients who were tracheostomized had a better chance of living.","PeriodicalId":243005,"journal":{"name":"Northeast Network Nursing Journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127670847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: this concurrent convergent mixed methods study incorporated cross-sectional correlational design and grounded theory. Data were collected among staff nurses at a hospital. Quantitative data were collected using the Brazilian Nursing Work Index-Revised/Leadership subscale with 105 nurses and analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. Qualitative data were collected through intensive interviews with 64 participants and analyzed by Charmaz’s method. Subsequently, results from both arms were integrated to generate mixed methods findings. Results: better nursing leadership resulted in better quality of care. Qualitative results supported quantitative results and showed that effective nursing leadership yielded quality of care through different processes: collaborating with nursing staff, encouraging patient advocacy, and enhancing care through research. Conclusion: through mixed methods, the findings can be generalized with a deeper understanding about the phenomenon. Implications are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":243005,"journal":{"name":"Northeast Network Nursing Journal","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134408479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: qualitative research carried out with 14 children aged six to ten years. Data were collected through open interviews and subjected to content analysis under the thematic modality. Results: three categories emerged: Body self-perception of obese children - showing the dissatisfaction with physical shape; Recognizing the effects of obesity - portraying the difficulties experienced and how much excess weight interferes in daily life; and Seeking alternatives to lose weight – describing the initiatives (not always correct) of the children and their families for weight reduction. Conclusion: children see themselves as overweight and this condition interferes with their daily lives, the practice of physical activities, social relations and mental health, when there is bullying at school or at home.","PeriodicalId":243005,"journal":{"name":"Northeast Network Nursing Journal","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121930647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: a qualitative study was carried out in 19 hospital institutions, with 56 nurses. For the data collection, the semi-structured interview was used and, in the analysis, the Atlas.ti® software. Results: these aspects emerged as units of analysis: positive and negative aspects of nursing teaching in a theoretical context; and positive and negative aspects of nursing teaching in a practical context. The perception of nurses about nursing education is essentially related to the existence of much diversified training processes. Conclusion: despite the evolution of nursing as a discipline and profession, nurses recognize that many of the weaknesses in nursing education are based on the differences between nursing schools, and the need for a closer approximation of theory to practice is evident, among other strategies, the follow-up of the students during the internships by the teachers of the School.","PeriodicalId":243005,"journal":{"name":"Northeast Network Nursing Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129352632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
