In this paper, the traditional state estimator is assumed to be functioning normally in the absence of PMU data. Then under given the placement of PMU in the power system, this paper wants to explore the substantial contribution of PMU to power system state estimation. First, it discusses the difference between PMU measurement and SCADA measurement to explain the effect of PMU on traditional power system state estimation. Then, supposing the right value obtained from PMU, it extracts the simpleness of traditional power system state estimation with SCADA data only, and proposes the reduced power system state estimation model which is same as traditional ones. Following, it presents resultant change in handling the problems of the observability, bad data recognition, and estimation accuracy, as well as the solution algorithm of the power system state estimation on line. It is shown that PMU data provides the direct measurement of state which can significantly simplify the traditional state estimator and dose not require any change of the existing state estimator. Simulation result for the IEEE 13 bus system verifies the validity of the study.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115828685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main idea of this controller comes from the concept of area-COI (center of inertia). The potential of area-COI as a unified signal for synchronous in large scale interconnected power systems is explored. This new controller uses areas-COI information and keeps them synchronous. Dynamic model based on area-COI- coordinate is derived first. Then the STATCOM control strategy is derived using back-stepping method. At last one simple 2-area- 4-geneartor interconnected power system is used for performance tests. The introduction of the electricity market aims to improve the efficiency, but meanwhile has brought many new problems, which cannot be found in the traditional monopoly system. Especially, in the economy aspect, power system has to face market risk other than the physical security problem. To find proper measures for market realization and adjustment, the authority should examine them carefully before their implementation. An electricity market monitoring system, which on one hand provides the references for market participants making strategic decisions and on the other hand is able to evaluate the impacts of specific measures or market context variation, is presented in this paper to help the regulator make decisions on market policy and the market participants foresee the market evolution. The monitoring system consists of two units, one is the market simulator, which detailed models the interaction between the market players by game theory and multi-agent system; the other is price forecast, which interprets the market evolution by mathematical or artificial intelligence approaches to foresee the prices. The two units cooperatively build a monitoring system for predicting the future market scenarios in different respects. Results of the numerical examples applying the preliminary monitoring system are presented and illustrated.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116380081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Starting from d-q model of rotor under reference coordinate, a mathematical model of BDFM based on synchronous coordinates is researched. For the power system, a new model adapting to analyze the power system is gained by neglecting the electromagnetic transient change. According to the characteristics of BDFM and adopting flux linkage oriented vector transformation control technology, a new type of control for brushless doubly-fed VSCF wind power generation system connected to grid is developed. The doubly-fed control is adopted in this system, and the voltage compensate is avoiding for the PWM current-tracing control is used in the inner ring. By means of controlling the control winding of wind turbine this control system the AC excitation is implemented, and then the decoupling control of active and reactive power is realized, eventually the generating operation mode with high efficiency that can capture maximal wind energy is come true. Simulation results verify the availability and validity of the proposed control strategy.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125955477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, low frequency oscillation phenomenon occurred for many times in China. A new fact is introduced which may lead to low frequency power oscillation of power system. In a power plant experiment, it was found that the quick operation of governing system would cause the pressure oscillation in turbine steam inlet pipeline. The frequency of pressure oscillation depends heavily on the structure and size of steam inlet pipeline. It is found that the frequency of the steam pressure continuous fluctuation is in the range of 0.1~10 Hz, which cover the frequency of power system low frequency oscillation. The interaction between the steam pressure and the power system may be occurred. On the basis of single machine infinite bus model, the process of quick operation of steam turbine governing valve and the effect of steam pressure fluctuation in turbine steam pipe on power system dynamic stability was researched through the simulation. The simulation results indicate that the quick operation of steam turbine governing valve may lead to power system low frequency oscillation, if the natural frequency of pressure fluctuation caused by governing valve quick operation is equal or close to the power system natural oscillation frequency. The conclusion can provide reference to research into the causes of power system low frequency oscillations.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124760339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A novel fault phase selection scheme is proposed in this paper, which provides an approach to accurately classify the fault types by dealing with six-phase and a model currents using a morphological transformation. The fault characteristics can be effectively extracted from the associating currents by the morphological transformation. The fault phase selection scheme is tested on a simulation model under different fault types, location, resistance and inception angle.
