The stability character of the power grid becomes complex more and more. The new theory and technique need to be applied to diagnose the real-time state of the power grid in order to ensure the safe and economical operation of the power grid. The power flow fingerprint character during the normal and fault state is analyzed and the power grid health diagnosis repository with the Self-learning ability is constituted. The diagnosis method adaptable for the wide area power grid health state diagnosis is put forward in the paper. The power flow character is extracted using AFIS technology, and the intelligent matching arithmetic is used to diagnose the power grid health state, so the power grid health state factor and the uncertain probability distributing between the failure and symptom is present. The early warning and decision support architecture is constructed based on the Power Flow Fingerprint Identification and MAS Technology. The health diagnosis results can be integrated with the other intelligent diagnosis results and can alarm the dispatcher using the technology of visualization. The application of power flow fingerprint identification technique to diagnose the health state of the power grid can eliminate the potential fault in the power grid and prevent the happening of the paroxysmal accident.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115784229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of the characteristics of gaming between market participant and incomplete information of opponents, an important tool of game theory is needed to analyze behavior of market participants and to forecaste tendency of electricity market. The actual situations of electricity market in operation, such as multi-constrained bidding curve of market participants, multi- types of bidding strategy of traders, and complex market rules, make it insurmountable for game theory to analyze the equilibrium strategy of electricity market. This paper presented an combination analysis model of game theory and genetic algorithm to reflect the actual situation of electricity. Firstly, the general analysis method of game theory is introduced . Then, the constraints and types of bidding curve are analyzed, bidding curve model is constructed, and the transaction utility calculation model of all participants is defined. Eventually, the analysis model of market equilibrium is constructed with game theory, and is implemented with genetic algorithm. In the market equilibrium analysis, each market participants might own multiple bidding units which has independent constraints and bidding curves. Calculation results indicate that the analysis method presented in this paper was consistent with actual operation of electricity market, fully reflected the market rule of electricity in operation, and could interpret the bidding behavior of market participants. Analysis results of bidding strategy equilibrium combination could be used directly in bidding decision-making of power provider and market clear price forecasting, and might play a great role in power provider bidding decision-making technical support system.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115814399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Technical constraints relating to thermal power plants are implemented to better determine their operational flexibility. Modeled with a scenario recombining tree, uncertain wind power generation is explicitly considered in the unit commitment planning. In order to investigate the enhanced impact of heat supply on the electricity market due to increasing capacity of combined heat and power units, district heating systems are incorporated. Modeling results for the German electricity market are discussed regarding the significant influence of uncertainty on investment decisions.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132375205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The derating measure for normal transformers is always taken to limit the temperature of windings or top-oil. In this paper, the formulations how to calculate the maximum permissible rms non-sinusoidal load current (Imax) using the harmonic loss factors FHL and K-factor were introduced. The difference of them was also reasoned and a case study illustrated the process of reasoning. The applications of these two factors were discussed too. Imax computed using FHL for normal transformer is more economical because Imax computed using K-factor is more conservative. Based on the actual monitoring data of harmonic component, K-factor is suitable for selecting right transformers in design and FHL for establishing transformers operation capability, therefore there is a harmonic loss margin when the transformers supply non-sinusoidal load.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132398656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And the optimal capacity is calculated, from the perspective of minimal social cost and maximal investment return respectively, revealing the divergence in investment goal of society and investors. Furthermore, in reality the installed peak-load generation capacity cannot exactly meet the ideally optimal level, and the additional social cost, that is the difference of the social cost from the value at the optimal peak capacity, is asymmetric in under- and over-investment situations. Therefore over-investment, which is favored by the society because it saves much expensive lost load cost, is in contradiction to underinvestment, which is preferred by investors for lower risks. Such incompatibility in investment incentives between the society and investors is mathematically analyzed. Finally, according to the current situation of deregulation and restructuring in China's electricity sector, a proposal of raising the price cap properly to encourage generation investment is given as one of the solutions to such incompatibility. In addition, the relationship between the uplifted price cap and the stimulated generation investment is analyzed, revealing the diminishing marginal effect of price cap uplift on over-investment incentives.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134265231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the nonlinear of the DC voltage differential equation for VSC-HVDC, the control of DC voltage is transformed to the control of the q-axis component of AC current fundamental component. Suitable Lyapunov functions are adopted according to the difference between reference value and actual value. Two nonlinear control inputs to the converter are obtained based on Lyapunov stability criterion. Due to linear of active power differential equation, active power is controlled based on traditional proportional integral (PI). The simulation results performed on PSCAD/EMTDC verify the feasibility of the control strategies effectively under a short time (0.05s) single phase to ground fault in two terminal AC systems of VSC- HVDC.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134098689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the current analysis methods, this paper modifies the existing models and introduces the motion equation of rotor into the multi-loop analysis model to describe the associated relations between main parameters (e.g. current, voltage, torque, speed of rotation) of generator. Since the starting process of motor contains abundant information, this paper analyzes the influence of internal faults to relevant parameters, during the starting process from zero to rated speed. Through analysis some conclusions can be obtained as follow: when stator winding internal faults occur, since the influence of space harmonic is stronger, electromagnetic torque is on oscillatory regime. All waves are distorted when turn-to-turn faults occur. The starting current is bigger than normal, and the current will fluctuate after stabilization. The changing trends of short circular current and neutral-point current are the same. The currents are both small when starting, then gradually decay and go stabilization after an obvious increasing. The amplitudes of currents are far bigger than every branch current of stator. After faults, the electromagnetic torque of motor changes a lot and there is still an oscillation with certain amplitudes after stabilization. More short turns would cause bigger amplitudes of oscillation.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131640581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under appropriate initial condition, the piecewise linear relation between fundamental voltage amplitude and switching angles is obtained, so voltage regulation and harmonic elimination can be realized online. Thus, the technique highly suits to the inverter of dynamic voltage restorer (DVR). In the paper, the sameness and the difference between switch angles distribution of SHEPWM and of centroid PWM (CPWM) are summarized, and, according to the relationship between both PWM modes, a new method to solve SHE equation in Walsh domain is proposed. Based on the feature of harmonic distribution of the SHEPWM pulses, the paper presents design principle of inverter filter. The experimental result of 200 kVA DVR using SHEPWM indicates that the inverter can effectively restrain the harmonics and has good dynamic performance in all the range of output voltage.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131812145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a matter of fact, price capping cannot suppress price fluctuation and evade the market risks effectively. The paper proposes a new price ceiling model, profit capping model (PCM), based on profit space theory in electricity market. Under such a model, peak load units have the same profit uplift as base load ones, but their sunk cost space boundaries are dynamically adjusted according to actual repayment. The PCM assimilates the advantages of two basic pricing methods, aims at evading market risks as well as attracting investment. The PCM overcomes fatal defects of price capping and provides a feasible solution for electricity market price ceiling.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132967879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DG may reduce the number of interruptions and/or durations for customers residing within their protection zones, thus increasing the reliability of service. A composite reliability index is defined as the objective function in the optimization procedure. Then, the zone-network method is introduced for reliability evaluation. An improved genetic algorithm that named multiple-population genetic algorithm (MPGA) is used to search for the optimum solutions. Using the MPGA, the optimization can be solved with mutli-population, and the influence of improper genetic parameters can be greatly decreased and premature convergence can be overcome effectively. Simulation work is carried out based on a 69-segment 8-lateral distribution feeder with distributed generation to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":240420,"journal":{"name":"2008 Third International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation and Restructuring and Power Technologies","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127552419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
