Fatigue, insomnia and depression, which are among these factors, have not been investigated together in any study. Therefore, we carried out this study to determine the effect of insomnia, fatigue and depressive symptoms on the motherhood role in primiparous mothers. In this descriptive and cross-sectional study, we included 153 women who met the inclusion criteria using the simple, random sampling method. To determine the independent variables affecting the motherhood role, we used the backward regression model. In this study, we determined that the women's spending more energy while they performed the activities of daily living in the postpartum period, their suffering from insomnia due to baby care and their depressive symptoms affected their motherhood role by 32.6 percent. We also determined that there was a moderately significant relationship between insomnia, fatigue and depressive symptoms in the postpartum period. In particular, because depressive symptoms are the variable most related with the motherhood role (r = -0.520; p < .001), women should be followed-up regularly in the postpartum period from this aspect. It is also important to deal with insomnia in the early postpartum period, because it is a common problem in most women after childbirth.
","PeriodicalId":23972,"journal":{"name":"Women & Health","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2023-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71427378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is argued that supportive care during labor reduces fear and resultant side effects. However, evidence for different parameters of mental health is insufficient. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of continuous intrapartum supportive care on the fear of childbirth, perceived control and support at birth, birth trauma and maternal attachment. This is a randomized controlled study with an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group included 40 women receiving continuous intrapartum supportive care and the control group included 40 women receiving routine care. Thirty women in the intervention group and 29 women in the control group completed the study. No significant differences were detected between the two groups at baseline (p > .05). Continuous intrapartum supportive care significantly decreased fear of birth and birth trauma, and significantly increased perceived intrapartum control and support and postpartum maternal attachment (p < .01). For the success of smoking cessation interventions, it is essential to determine why pregnant women continue smoking. The participants consisted of 22 pregnant women who smoke, selected by purposive sampling. We collected data through semi-structured interviews and analyzed it using thematic analysis. We identified six themes namely \"Reasons for starting to smoke: family and social environment,\" \"Intention to quit smoking and related factors,\" \"Smoking and emotional well-being,\" \"Smoking and stressful life experiences,\" \"Protective thoughts: reducing smoking to safeguard their babies,\" and \"Belief in a healthy pregnancy and inadequate risk perception.\" Women expressed the desire to protect their fetus from the harm of smoking. A convenience sample of undergraduate women with an exclusive current partner (n = 412; 99 percent unmarried) at a U.S. public university anonymously responded via paper-and-pencil to the Global Measure of Sexual Satisfaction and the Sexual Experiences Survey-Short Form Victimization between 2012-2016. SVE may predict lower SSCP when victimized by that partner, as that partner may be associated with the negative victimization experience.
