The block and block stations in the sections are interconnected, which enables the block station to automatically change its parameters of operation, according to the movement of trains in the block. The system classifies the status of the section into three broad categories, viz. single train movement in the adjacent block sections, offensive train movement in the adjacent block sections and back to back train movement in the adjacent block sections. The control algorithm for each category is unique and the operational parameters are according to the existing system of control. An optional manual control panel, which is of a centralized traffic control (CTC) type, is also included in the proposed system.","PeriodicalId":239269,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. This paper explores a model that captures the interactions between vehicles and pedestrians, as well as behavior unique to parking lots. This model was implemented in simulation of the evacuation of the hourly parking lot at Dulles International Airport. The results revealed the significant impact that these interrelations had on both the efficiency and the dynamics of the evacuation. The impact on the variances in delay experienced by individuals has important implications for both the safety of the evacuation and evacuation management.","PeriodicalId":239269,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. We present a pragmatic approach for validating real-time in-vehicle applications using IEEE-1394 bus. By validation, we mean the verification of real-time constraints that is met by the automotive applications. We describe how the IEEE-1394 standard can respond to hard real-time constraints of critical and non-critical applications. We then present a software architecture based on distributed calculators interconnected by IEEE-1394 bus and well adapted for integrating multi-sensors automotive applications.","PeriodicalId":239269,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. To attain our purpose, we propose a simple route guidance mechanism based on route information sharing (RIS). Drivers using the RIS give planned route details to the route information server, which then sends accumulated traffic information based on those routes to drivers. Multiagent simulation in a lattice network and a radial and ring network confirmed that: i) as the drivers using the RIS increased, the travel time of both the drivers using the RIS and the other drivers decreased; ii) the travel times of drivers using the RIS were substantially shorter than those of drivers using other mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":239269,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The robustness of the scheme lies in its multipath mitigation characteristics. By exploiting the spread spectrum (SS) nature of chaos, a high resolution radar system is designed. A cost effective receiver architecture for multipath mitigation in vehicular channel is proposed here. The receiver adaptively equalizes the vehicular multi-path channel minimizing a non-linear prediction error (MNPE) criteria. The MNPE receiver performance is derived to analyze its multi-path mitigation performance. Numerical simulations are performed to validate the theoretical results. The performance of the proposed radar is compared with the conventional direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) ranging scheme. It is shown that the proposed chaos radar outperforms the conventional DS-SS ranging scheme in the vehicular multi-path environment.","PeriodicalId":239269,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. {"title":"Grey model for asphalt pavement performance prediction","authors":"D. Shen, Jia-Chong Du","doi":"10.1109/ITSC.2004.1398981","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ITSC.2004.1398981","url":null,"abstract":"Most existing rutting models are either based on an empirical or mechanistic-empirical modeling approach. The mechanistic-empirical model can be used easily and effectively on the relationship between rutting and the pavement response such as vertical strain, asphalt mix properties, and ambient condition. However, the cause of rutting is sophisticated and is the function of molding variables, which results in the poor performance of many of the existing models. In addition, some data or properties for pavement evaluation relating to the environment and structure may not be very clear, and so the pavement system is grey in its nature. Due to the advent of laboratory facilities and pavement management systems, a large number of pavement databases have become available. Thus, in this paper, the prediction-modeling approach is to simplify with two components and to emphasize the phenomenon of cause and effect by the data of rut depth versus traffic loadings. The model based on grey system theory is, then, developed to predict the rut depth of the asphalt pavement performance. The algorithm of model represented GM (1, 2) is presented and the applicability of the model is the data of rut depth obtained from the wheel-tracking device test. Field test data of rutting performance is collected from FHWA research data to evaluate the accuracy and effectiveness of the new prediction model and to confirm the model's validity. A statistical linear regression analysis was conducted for testing the accuracy of prediction. The comparison between the measured and predicted rut depth is within the tolerance level of /spl plusmn/2.5 mm. It is to believe that GM (1, 2) is useful for making a prediction of rut depths.","PeriodicalId":239269,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. More specifically, maritime container terminals are here considered, involving three kinds of transportation modes, namely, maritime, rail and road transport. A simple model for the considered kind of container terminals is proposed in this paper. In the model, the position of containers and their movements inside the terminal are modelled by means of buffers. The dynamic evolutions of such buffers are described by discrete-time equations, where the control variables take into account the utilization of terminal resources as load/unload capabilities and the available yard space. On the basis of the proposed model, an optimal control problem is stated that consists in minimizing the transfer delays of containers in the terminal. A receding-horizon strategy is proposed for the solution of such a control problem.","PeriodicalId":239269,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. EM-IMM based land-vehicle navigation with GPS/INS 基于EM-IMM的陆地车辆GPS/INS导航

Its implementation is essentially based on the standard Kalman filter techniques. However, the estimation accuracy is degraded if unknown parameters present in the system model or the model changes with the environment as in the case of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). We propose an expectation-maximization (EM) based interacting multiple model (IMM) method, namely, EM-IMM algorithm, to jointly identify the unknown parameters and to estimate the position information. The IMM is capable of identifying states in jumping dynamic models corresponding to various vehicle driving status, while the EM algorithm is employed to give the maximum likelihood (ML) estimates of the unknown parameters. Compared to the conventional single model Kalman filter based navigation, the proposed algorithm gives improved estimation performance when the land-vehicle drives with changing conditions. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":239269,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
