Continuous time parametric model is obtained by using graphical based methods which are known process reaction curves. Discrete-time system model is obtained by employing online identification methods based on recursive extended least squares. The models are employed in elaborated feedback control schemes. A predictive proportional integral (PI) control and Smith predictor scheme, which can be employed for delay system, are presented. Stability characterization is addressed. A performance comparison between Smith Predictor and the Predictive PI controller is presented. The problems chosen for prototyping time delay control strategies are also widely used benchmark problems of control theory and this aspect of the paper makes it a beneficial guide to a large number of readers.","PeriodicalId":239044,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Automation and Control Engineering","volume":"177 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134019520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, SMPS have employed the use of digital controllers such as microcontrollers and digital signal processors (DSP’s) to provide compensation, housekeeping, fan control, communication, etc. The main advantages of using a digital controller are: insensitivity to environment and component tolerances, repeatability, predictability, flexibility and size reduction of power supply units (PSUs). These are very much appealing to the designer’s viewpoint; however, these come with disadvantages such as limitation in bandwidth due to sampling rate, peripheral’s speed and high prototyping cost. In this paper, we observe one of the existing problems revolving around the use of digital controllers in SMPS, i.e. quantization.","PeriodicalId":239044,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Automation and Control Engineering","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133474190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimal autopilot for practical systems should provide the fastest possible performance under constraints on applicable system dynamics. The quadratic performance index with weightings adjustment cannot easily and clearly handle such constraints. This paper introduces an optimal autopilot design technique based on the constrained optimization. The tracking performance is formed analytically as the design objective. The open-loop crossover frequency and the maximum demand of the actuator fin-deflection rate are introduced as analytical inequality constraints. The design process is handled into the space of stable poles parameters of the autopilot closed loop characteristic. The introduced autopilot design is self-consistent technique and is easily fulfilled with an optimization algorithm. Numerical simulation results are illustrated to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach. The Gaussian process model is a nonparametric model and the output of the model has Gaussian distribution with mean and variance. The multistep ahead prediction for the phase angle in transient state of the electric power system is accomplished by using multiple Gaussian process models as every step ahead predictors in accordance with the direct approach. The proposed prediction method gives the predictive values of the phase angle and the uncertainty of the predictive values as well. Simulation results for a simplified electric power system are shown to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed prediction method.","PeriodicalId":239044,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Automation and Control Engineering","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115505085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article implements a face detection process as a preliminary step to monitor the state of drowsiness on vehicle's drivers. We propose an algorithm for pre-detection based on image processing and machine learning methods. A Gabor filter bank is used for facial features extraction. The dimensionality of the resulting feature space is further reduced by PCA technique and then follows a classification of Face/No Face classes using Support Vector Machine (SVM), for face detection. In the extraction process, the average filter is applied to predict original dwt coefficients in HLn-1 subband. Then, the watermark logo is recovered by subtracting the coefficients predicted from the embedded coefficients, without original image needed. In the light curing process, the printing time of the surface projection molding technology called digital light processing (DLP) can be shorter than the point projection molding technology, and has better development. With the open-loop control system of bottom-up type of DLP machine, the user should set the rise time of printing platform in each layer according to the experience before the printing starts. Therefore, the user experience will determine the printing efficiency. This study proposes to use case-based reasoning (CBR) method to improve printing efficiency. The printing parameters of machine, the geometry of printing object and the separation time are all recorded in a case format. The printing parameters that affect the separation time become the characteristics of the index system. The most similar case is obtained from the case base through the similarity calculation, and rising time of the platform is obtained through the case correction rule. Finally, the effect of the inference system is confirmed by a case study. They have three outputs that need to be controlled, consisting of cargo swing angle, trolley displacement, and suspended cable length, but only two actuators: cargo lifting and trolley driving forces. The main objective of this study is to design a robust controller for an overhead crane that transfers cargo from point to point as fast as possible and, at the same time, keeps the cargo swing angle small during the transfer process and make it completely vanish at the desired cargo destination. The proposed controller must simultaneously carry out three duties: minimize cargo swing, track trolley to the desired destination, and lift/lower cargo to the reference length of cable. The controller is designed based on a sliding mode control technique. To validate the proposed control quality, a stability analysis of the system is discussed and the response analysis is executed with both MATLAB simulation and experimental research. The simulation and experiment results show that the crane system is stable and has the desired behavior.
