Expressways, highways and roads are getting overcrowded due to increase in number of vehicles. Vehicle detection, tracking, classification and counting is very important for military, civilian and government applications, such as highway monitoring, traffic planning, toll collection and traffic flow. For the traffic management, vehicles detection is the critical step. Computer Vision based techniques are more suitable because these systems do not disturb traffic while installation and they are easy to modify. In this paper we present inexpensive, portable and Computer Vision based system for moving vehicle detection and counting. Image from video sequence are taken to detect moving vehicles, so that background is extracted from the images. The extracted background is used in subsequent analysis to detect and classify moving vehicles as light vehicles, heavy vehicles and motorcycle. The system is implemented using OpenCV image development kits and experimental results are demonstrated from real-time video taken from single camera. We tested this system on a laptop powered by an Intel Core Duo (1.83 GHZ) CPU and 2GB RAM. This highway traffic counting process has been developed by background subtraction, image filtering, image binary and segmentation methods are used. This system is also capable of counting moving vehicles from pre-recorded videos. Obtaining the model of the actuator is a necessary step to design the controller of UAV. These days, the visual measurement technology has been widely applied in the field of industry. In our study, the video capture is applied to acquire the actuators’ movement without changing the system’s origin characteristics. This paper proposes a combination algorithm to identify the actuators’ model which is accomplished on a hardware-inloop simulation platform. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the algorithm. It also provides a strong theoretical basis for the design of the control system. Such system is capable of doing the following: 1) switching between available bad and good conditioned lead-acid batteries without interrupting power service, 2) automatic charging of lead-acid batteries, 3) integrate a power/demand analyzer for determining appropriate power rating before switching lead-acid batteries. The setup experiment consists of five 6V (4Ah for 10 hours) and five 12V (5Ah for 10 hours) lead acid batteries which can be configured indifferent series or parallel connections and various lighting loads. Experiments show successful switching between batteries without power interruption, lead-acid parameter monitoring and automatic charging.","PeriodicalId":239044,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Automation and Control Engineering","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129510614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we depicted the operation of high- performance carbon nanotube film heaters, which show a clear advantage over traditionally employed materials. The material was synthesized by a facile one-step method and used as resistive heating element. The results have shown very effective conversion of electric power into heat. To improve the homogeneity of the heaters electrical resistance, we explored a selection of volatile solvents. Such a pretreatment step prior to heaters use caused densification of the material and favorable changes to the electrothermal behavior.","PeriodicalId":239044,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Automation and Control Engineering","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128607819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces the approach of modeling and control of liquid level control system for a Coupled-Tank System. First, this paper shows mathematical equations for the nonlinear system. Then it presents the linearized model for the proposed system. Two controllers of the system based on the conventional Proportional plus Integral (PI) controller and Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) technique are used, to control the level of the second tank for the linearized model, through variable manipulation of water pump in the first tank. Finally, the simulation study is done, which demonstrates that the MRAC controller produces better response compared to the PI controller.
