A breeze coming off of the Gulf of Mexico and into Mobile Bay brought a respite from what might otherwise be an uncomfortably warm month in the area immediately east of Mobile, Alabama. For several weeks, incessant rains made every road a quagmire. Even though it had been sometime since Confederate Navy forces and their accompanying blockade runners had been foiled by the Union Navy in the Battle of Mobile Bay, life in Mobile had been largely unchecked by the war, the people unbowed, and the city remained a bastion of Confederate influence. Union forces recognized Mobile’s position of influence and its hopes to end the War Between the States centered largely on the defeat of the city and region. Many of Spanish Fort’s earthworks built to protect Mobile, still stand. Countless artifacts have been recovered and continue to be recovered. Some of those artifacts, a reminder of the grim, last major battle of the American Civil War, fought from March 27–April 8, 2023 are documented here.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131676974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The males of Nepal have been dominating and disrespecting women as the inferior sex for centuries, and thereby treating natural resourses as feminine, weak to be manipulated and consumed objectively for their benefits. The research tool taken to carry out the research is eco-feminism. To notice the relationship between gender and natural resources of Nepal, the theoretical concerns of such eco-feminist critics as Greta Gaard and Vandana Shiva are chiefly focused on. The Nepalese society, like most of the South-Asian societies, is a male-dominated society. It exploits both women and nature regarding them to be inferior. The chief finding is that the natural resources of Nepal such as air, water, green fields, climate, land, forestry, minerals, environment, and the species of Nepal have been getting threatened because of the Nepalese patriarchal society. The Nepali people exploit nature as carelessly as they have been exploiting women. It is assumed that the research scholars interested in exploring Nepalese society from the perspective of eco-feminism can take the article as a reference.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128598647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With various kinds of information in it, social media can influence public views in the process of forming opinions or points of view. In addition to having a positive impact, social media can also have a negative impact if users cannot filter properly the news or information they find. This research examines the role of social media in building public opinion, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic so that it affects national defense. The research method used is literature study. The results of the study show that social media has become a means of spreading both positive and negative information about Covid-19. Social media has great power to lead to public perceptions, which can generate opinions and then create social behavior that is counter-productive to the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Public opinion on Covid-19 has an influence on people's readiness to face a global pandemic attack. The amount of information containing hoaxes or fake news related to Covid-19 has created a lot of confusion among the public, making handling it even more difficult, and causing a lot of material and immaterial losses, especially fatalities. This of course will affect the decline in the potential of national resources which will have an impact on the strength of the country's defense.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126314304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this, a Generalized Linear Mixed Model (GLMM) is employed to examine the correlations among various variables in a randomly selected video database. The findings of the analysis reveal several significant and culturally insightful associations. Notably, subgenres such as melodrama (soap-operas or telenovelas), action, and comedy emerge as distinctive categories, irrespective of the total number of views. Comedies and action videos created by male filmmakers receive higher viewership. Similarly, melodramas created by female filmmakers, particularly those hailing from marginalized and rural backgrounds, hold greater statistical significance. These findings highlight the relevance of gender and social context in shaping viewer preferences and challenge the conventions of mainstream media in the respective countries of origin.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125078184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An important aspect of the change revolves around the library space and many university libraries are making efforts to change their spaces to meet the need driven by information technology, improved higher education systems and shifting of users’ expectations. This paper discusses the status of library spaces in Kenyan university libraries and is based on research conducted using pragmatic research paradigm and a convergent mixed methods design and multiple case studies strategy. The study population was university library users in Kenya consisting of six (6) participating universities (three public and three private) purposefully selected based on their age (time they have been in existence). Students and academic staff participated in a survey; librarians participated in focus groups while university librarians had interviews. This study collected data through online questionnaires, online focus group discussions and telephone call interviews. The qualitative data was thematically analysed while the quantitative data adopted a statistical approach that encompasses descriptive statistics. The results show some common available library spaces among the university libraries, the most preferred available library spaces and most frequently used library spaces by the users on daily basis. The study recommends continuous assessment of library spaces in the universities in order to understand library users’ needs and make informed decisions.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128170026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These impacts not only synergize with other adverse early life experiences but also permeate all psychosocial domains, especially mental health, leading to detrimental shifts in their life trajectory. While terms like ethnic discrimination and systemic racism have been unconsciously used for centuries outside of North America, their interpretation has predominantly relied on a cultural lens, neglecting to acknowledge their profound impact on children's mental well-being. This paper aims to discuss the mental health implications of systemic racism within various social systems and raise awareness of its dire outcomes for children and adolescents. Additionally, it will focus on recommendations by early career psychiatrists (ECPs) who advocate for change in social systems within their own cultures. In 2020, the Global Mental Health Think Tank was established by a diverse, multidisciplinary, and online-based network of ECPs affiliated with the World Psychiatric Association’s ECP section. These ECPs and co-authors are internationally practicing adult and child and adolescent psychiatrists, and physician-scientists. Discussions among authors highlighted three main areas of concern: a) trauma and related disorders within the context of ethnic discrimination, b) discrimination against minorities in education systems, and c) discrimination of minorities in maternal health. Another noteworthy observation was the scarcity of literature on this topic globally, highlighting the need for increased system-based qualitative studies and interventions that align with each region’s respective culture.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114755796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are yet no studies conducted to confirm or prove the existence and extent of cyberbullying themes in Facebook Pitik trends. Cyberbullying is not new to social media environments and as technologies and trends change over time, the medium of cyberbullying also changes. We show in this study the proofs of the existence and the extents of cyber bullying themes in Facebook Pitik posts. In this study, we utilized methods of natural language processing – specifically text mining and emotion polarity computation, also known as sentiment analysis. Using Facepager software, 68,000 documents/comments are collected from select Facebook pages of photographers involved in the trend of Pitik posting. Results showed that the collected documents contain 26.29 % pertaining to harassment; 35.48% to flaming; and 19.45% to denigration. The existence of negative emotions is also seen from collected documents including anger, uncertainty, constraining, fear, sadness, and disgust. Findings may help policy makers to enhance the Facebook community standards making its app safer and free from issues relating to cyberbullying, especially in unconsented Pitik posts.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129139616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research method used was a literature review by analyzing legal documents and relevant literature on the issue. The analysis showed that Law No. 36 of 2009 on Health limits abortion for fetal defects to be performed only before the pregnancy reaches 6 weeks, while fetal defects usually can only be detected after 16 weeks. This causes legal uncertainty for doctors and patients. Therefore, policy formulation is needed that considers medical and moral factors to achieve legal certainty in the practice of abortion for fetal defects.","PeriodicalId":238752,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121577632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
