Our results are based on comparing over 50 HD video traces. We show through our results that our model: simplified seasonal ARIMA (SAM) provides a good representation for HD videos, and it provides significant improvements in prediction accuracy over other regressions methods. In addition, we discuss our methodology to collect and encode our library of HD video traces. We describe the tools that we have created and used in generating create and analyzing these traces. We have made these tools, along with our large collection of HD video traces, available for the research community. We illustrate the simplicity of our approach and we discuss the importance of our modeling and prediction method and its impact on other areas of study.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128946423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We constructed the Attributed Relational Graphs (ARGs) for describing the image contents from the independent domain. The structure of an ARG is made in accordance with a graph grammar which is a mechanism to create the semantics of the content of an image. The instances of the ARGs corresponding to the low level features and to the labels associated with the salient objects extracted from the images are stored in an object oriented database. The native query model is used for the retrieval based on content of the images from the database. Our technique, which combines the image descriptors obtained by an unified approach phases of image segmentation and annotation, has a good time complexity and the experimental results on the image datasets show that the performance of the method is robust.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127833579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system we propose captures and analyzes contextual information using wearable sensors, while a user is performing an activity. The information can subsequently be shared with other users and used to guide users in performing similar activities. Audiovisual feedback from the guiding system is provided to the users, in real time, in accordance with their activity state. To realize the system, we propose a probabilistic method for modeling of user experiences, and a multimodal feedback process based on the previous experience model. By applying the system to a short tour experience, we evaluated the feasibility and suggested uncovered potential future directions in regards to our proposed system.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"46 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114132247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research, advanced features of Scalable Video Coding are investigated and compared with Advanced Video Coding. A new video transmission evaluation platform is proposed to support the latest Network Abstract Layer Units of Scalable Video Coding. A new interface between the scalable video evaluation platform and an overlay simulation platform is developed so that the transmission performance of Scalable Video Coding bit-streams on an overlay network will be evaluated. Both structural similarity index (SSIM) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) measurements are applied to evaluate the performance of the video transmission session. New measurement results are also provided so that other SVC-based service designers can select the right video scalability for their service.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"82 3 Pt 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131338496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The introduced approach is utilizing partially ordered sets to express quality relations between result documents, i.e. the user's preference, directly on sample documents from the document set. Hence, the presented system supports users by offering an intuitive preference formulation which is known from daily life: the spontaneous quality judgement between objects without deeper knowledge of underlying attributes. This facilitates the interaction with the presented system as no new cognitive burdens are introduced into the search process. Based on these preferences, a machine-learning algorithm concludes an appropriate query via inductive reasoning in order to retrieve more relevant documents in an iterative manner. To conclude with, an initial prototype is discussed. First experiments show the utility of our approach.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128657359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an original contribution, these functionalities can be exploited to offer improved viewing experience, when accessing football content through individual and potentially bandwidth constrained connections. Starting from a conventional broadcasted content, our system automatically splits the native content into non-overlapping and semantically consistent segments. Each segment is then divided into shots, based on conventional view boundary detection. Shots are finally splitted in small clips. These clips support our browsing capabilities during the whole playback in a temporally consistent way. Multiple versions are automatically created to render each clip. Versioning depends on the view type of the initial shot, and typically corresponds to the generation of zoomed in and spatially or temporally subsampled video streams. Clips are encoded independently so that the server can decide on the fly the version to send as a function of the semantic relevance of the segments (in a user-transparent basis, as inferred from video analysis or metadata) and the interactive user requests. Replaying certain game actions is also offered upon request. The streaming is automatically switched to the requested event. Later, the playback is resumed without any offset. The capabilities of our system rely on the H.264/AVC standard. We use soccer videos to validate our framework in subjective experiments showing the feasibility and relevance of our system.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115337282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such interactions are known from internet data or computer games, which have a different data structure from video data. Video comprises filmed real scenes, or at least real scenes which are augmented by editing e.g. with a computer. It is the purpose of the present platform to provide a system and data structures, which allow a user initiated interaction with video data on TVs, Mobiles and the Web in a harmonized and easy way. This paper describes the realization of the above outlined user initiated content interaction to deliver value-added information, links and advertisements on-demand and in a personalized way. The envisioned solution will help to satisfy the ever-increasing demand of the content production as well as advertisement industry for predefined interfaces to place advertisements and product related information in close vicinity to particular objects within a scene.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132840817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, despite the popularity of content-aware and topology-aware overlay networks, surprisingly little research has been done to combine both approaches.
