The motion information is extracted in the compressed domain of H.264/AVC videos, no full decoding of the video stream is needed. Based on the motion information our algorithm identifies sequences of adjacent frames with similar motion. Throughout all identified motion sequences we are searching for recurring patterns. The pattern recurring most often is used for the segmentation of the video stream into scenes. The evaluation shows promising results.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133730105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mobile environment however presents several restrictions. Two of these limiting factors being bandwidth constraints and energy availability in battery-operated mobile terminals. This paper looks at the possibility of employing prediction algorithms at the FVV server to anticipate the next viewpoint expected by the user. In doing so, the number of uplink requests is reduced to situations where the estimated view defers from the requested one and the associated transmissions required in retraining the algorithm once this occurs. Simulation results on two different prediction techniques demonstrate that the uplink transmission rate is reduced by up to 96.7% when emulating a conventional FVV usage scenario. Both prediction algorithms infer a substantial decrease in the mobile terminal’s power consumption and reduce the network’s uplink bandwidth utilization.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122433204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is an especially challenging task in situations where the information need of a user is ambiguous, or if the user is unable to express it. The suggestion made here is that combining two different approaches to image retrieval with the utilization of context information and user interaction will help alleviate this problem. This paper describes how an approach that uses visual data, textual data in the form of context information, and user interaction in the image retrieval process may be developed and evaluated.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132384538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This information can be used to better manage the system resources and provide more value to the users. However, it is often not easy to develop autonomic mechanisms that can accurately measure the delivered quality of multimedia services due to the subjectiveness of the perceived quality. While the most accurate methods involve subjective testing, which is costly and impractical, the existing objective ones lack of accuracy. In this work we present a methodology that uses limited initial subjective tests to develop prediction models for Quality of Experience (QoE) as perceived by the viewers. These prediction models are further used as part of a QoE estimation platform that assesses the value of perceived quality based on the underlying conditions of the system.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"270 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123713371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We are introducing a new method of salient object recognition with very good results relative to other already known object detection methods. We developed a simple evaluation framework in order to compare the results of our method with other segmentation methods. The experimental results offer a complete basis for parallel analysis with respect to the precision of our algorithm, rather than the individual efficiency.","PeriodicalId":238480,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conferences on Advances in Multimedia","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116749693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
