They must meet accuracy, security, and reliability. Hence, these sensors become sophisticated and expensive. This paper proposes a transducer not only to meet charge electricity billing, but also to acquire waveforms to evaluate adverse power quality phenomena. The proposed transducer is based on an optocoupler to isolate the electrical network from the meter. The transducer design uses a suggested method to exploit properly the current transfer ratio to meet the accuracy and linearity needed in the power quality context. In addition, a method to estimate a correction factor to compensate for the tolerance in the component values of the transducer is given. The proposed transducer has been validated using Oread Lite® software to simulate different case studies related to power quality phenomena. Results show that the proposed transducer has an adequate performance for smart electricity meters that can be extended to evaluate adverse power quality phenomena.","PeriodicalId":237392,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125879036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies for simultaneous maximum power and efficiency points tracking are aimed at a single source of considerable power generation capability. This paper proposes a low computational burden algorithm for simultaneous maximum power and efficiency point tracking for a paralleled-input single-output boost-type electronic converter operating in DCM with sequential triggering, asymmetrical inputs, and low-power sources. In numerical simulations, a stable 95% of efficiency is gained over a wide range of operation conditions, even considering noise (bounded but reasonable) and parasitics of the main components.","PeriodicalId":237392,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"217 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131857912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By implementing a Raspberry-based Low-resolution embedded system based and a FLIR Lepton® sensor human body temperature is measured and improved by four different algorithms implemented. Firstly, three traditional time-series processes solving such as, Simple Mean (SM), Simple Moving Average (SMA), and Multi Lineal Regression (MLR), and secondly, and online filter-based Kalman predictor were implemented to increase the signal to noise ratio of the acquired temperature magnitude. Results of average prediction for different benchmarks demonstrate the best performance of Kalman Filter upon traditional processes. In addition, this algorithm achieves to smooth output temperature with fewer samples (∼10% of total samples) in comparison MLR and SMA. Finally, Raspberry-based Low-resolution Thermal image system is a feasible tool as a high-speed temperature estimator, by implementation of algorithms codified in Python language.","PeriodicalId":237392,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125144219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the oscillatory trends and the non-linear dynamic behaviour of the system measurements in the first seconds of the transient period often mislead the appropriate knowledge of the actual coherent groups, making wide-area coherency monitoring a challenging task. Inspired by swarm behavior in nature, we propose a modified Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) approach based on centroids codification to identify coherency within a short observation window. A user-defined inter-group function is proposed and compared with conventional intra-group functions to examine the quality of the compacting and separating features of the final clusters. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our technique, we clustered the highly nonlinear dynamic responses of the generators on the 39-bus New England system. A comparison with other clustering methods was carried out to highlight the strength of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":237392,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115374498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Large earthquakes in some regions are rare, so strong seismic records are scarce in many countries and in many types of surface soil. When available, it is necessary to extract all possible information from those signals about seismic parameters for understanding the seismic impact on infrastructure and to improve some design parameters in local seismic codes. After the Pedernales Mw7.8 earthquake in Ecuador, several strong motion accelerograms were registered in different types of soils for the first time in the country, given the opportunity to apply updated signal analysis methods, to compute different kinds of linear and nonlinear response spectra, and to propose changes to the current Ecuadorian seismic code. Results of this analysis and some proposed upgrades to the current code are presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":237392,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126631771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, an accurate analytical calculation of losses in a Full - Bridge DC-DC Converter (FBDC) is presented and validated with simulation results. The analytical calculation presented shows the analysis both in the rectification section and in the inverter section, in addition to the Medium Frequency Transformer (MFT) analysis. Optical spatial filtering is a method used in interferometry for the generation of regular laser illumination beams, where a pinhole aperture is focused on a convergence point of a lens. For the experimental setup, an emerging laser beam is focused to a point, where the correct position of the aperture can be found by adjusting the linear displacement with motorized devices. To obtain the position of the pinhole in an (X, Y) plane, a displacement arrangement implemented with micrometric servomotors and a CCD camera; controlled by a PID control algorithm, is used. The automatic adjustment of the position of the resulting beam intensity pattern registered in the camera is carried out by the servo motors until the optimal position coordinates are found. Process control related to positioning and subsequent estimation is executed with Python and synchronized in Lab View.","PeriodicalId":237392,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129560349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, passive elements also produce power losses that reduce the efficiency. In general, the power losses vary along with the variations of the irradiance, thus, at low power, the efficiency is low while at rated power the efficiency is maximum. In order to increase the efficiency during low irradiance intervals, this paper proposes a method to improve the efficiency in a photovoltaic inverter by means of the implementation of a hybrid MOSFET-IGBT switch which has been implemented for the H5 topology. The proposed solution consists in the use of a MOSFET and an IGBT connected in parallel. The main idea is to take advantage of the lower losses of a MOSFET in low power and the lower losses of an IGBT in high power. The proposed idea is validated by means of simulations, demonstrating the feasibility of the hybrid switches. The results show an improvement in the European efficiency and the California Energy Commission (CEC) efficiency, in this case is the European efficiency where the improvement is higher, however the behavior of the results indicate the hybrid switch can achieve a higher efficiency with a higher power if it is compare with the using of only MOSFET or only IGBT.","PeriodicalId":237392,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125859795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
