The formation of the lymph follicles and infiltration of B lymphocytes outside of the lymph follicles within the tumor tissues were seen in 75% and 87.5% of cases with MG respectively. Contrarily, such findings were seen only in 14.2% of cases without MG. S-100β positive lymphocytes were seen in almost all cases more or less, however, significantly increased in number in cases with MG (p<0.01). S-100α positive dendritic cells appearing in the germinal centers in thymoma tissues, most casses were with MG, were significantly increased in number compared with those in inflammatory lymph nodes or tonsils (p<0.01). These findings were thought to be closely related to the manifestation of MG.","PeriodicalId":237003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japan Society of the Reticuloendothelial System","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129840827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In immunohistochemistry, UFT-4 reacted with Kupffer cells, interdigitating cells (IDC), sinus endothelial cells of the spleen, some reticulum cells, smooth muscle fibers and choroid plexus epithelia. Immunoelectron microscopy gave a positive reaction for a part of cytosol of Kupffer cells, IDCs, sinus endothelial cells of the spleen and some reticulum cells in a linear or filamentous fashion with some periodicity. On the other hand, blood monocytes and most macrophages in lymphatic sinus, lymphoid follicle, splenic red pulp and connective tissue were negative. The former cells, positive for UFT-4, almostly belong to a narrow spectrum of the classical reticuloendothelial system, explaining a close relationship between some endothelia and some macrophages or reticulum cells. The present result disclosed that UFT-4 is very usefull to study Kupffer cells and further to reestimate their origin and peculiar character in reticuloendothelial system.","PeriodicalId":237003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japan Society of the Reticuloendothelial System","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132425208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Fc receptors showed a focal absence and the length of the Fc receptor-positive portions of the sinusoids in unit area decleased to about 50% and 60% of the normal value in the advanced cirrhosis in man and rats, respectively. The delayed blood clearance and decreased hepatic uptake of 125I-labeled BSA-antiBSA IgG comlexes were seen in the cirrhotic rats. The Fc receptor activity, estimated by staining intensity of the Fc receptors, was considerably decreased is the regenerating livers for 7 days after hepatectomy. The 5-week-to 9-month-old NZB/WF1 mice showed higher Fc receptor activity than control NZW mice. The Fc receptor activity in the CFA injected mice gradually increased until 4 week after administration. The hyperplasia or absence of Kupffer cell was found in these conditions, associated with increase and decrease of Fc receptor activity, but the causative relationship between Kupffer cell number and Fc receptor activity could not be found.","PeriodicalId":237003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japan Society of the Reticuloendothelial System","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114415926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CT scan showed bilateral swelling of adrenals; open biopsy of the tumor revealed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The serum level of catecholamines and calcitonin was elevated. A combination chemotherapy was started. After 3 courses of the treatment remission was achieved, following recovery from adrenal insufficiency. In November, 1988, he had pulmonary infiltration and high fever, resolved by the administration of antibiotics and antifungal drugs. On January 27, 1989, he underwent emergency operation because of perforation of gastric ulcer. In Feburuary, tumor increased in size, and the disease became progressive. On April 2, 1989, he died of respiratory failure. Autopsy revealed a definite diagnosis of malignant lymphoma, diffuse large cell type. For EBV positive cases, expression of EBNA1, EBNA2, LMP1 and P53 gene products were examined immunohistochemically, EBV-serology and prognostic data were also analyzed. EBV was detected in 48 (65.8%) of Hodgkin's disease in the tumor cells. EBV-positive HD showed expression of LMP1 and episomal monoclonality in all 5 cases examined. Among NHL, EBV was detected in 44 (12.0%) of 368 cases with ATL, 36 (31.6%) of 114 cases with T-ML, 18 (6.8%) of 263 cases with B-ML and none of 7 other types (p<0.00001). High prevalent expression of LMP1 (66%) and P53 gene products (80%) and low prevalent expression of EBNA1 and EBNA2 were observed in EBV-positive NHL cases with similar distribution of EBER ISH sporadic and diffuse positive cases. Episomal clonality of EBV were demonstrated in some cases examined. Elevated antibody titer particularly IgA antibodies against VCA and EA, and poor prognosis of EBV positive cases were observed.","PeriodicalId":237003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japan Society of the Reticuloendothelial System","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122079980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
