Amyloid protein of ducks was sensitive to oxidation with potassium permanganate and completely lost the affinity to Congo red. Immunohistochemically the proteins cross-reacted to the rabbit anti-human amyloid AA antibody. So it was concluded that amyloidsis of ducks was secondary type and the major component of amyloid was amyloid AA protein. The precursor substance of AA protein of ducks was produced by hepatocytes, in similar fashion to human or rodents. With regard to pathogenesis, ducks amyloidosis was influenced by preceding inflammation, because numerous cases of amyloid ducks showed various inflamed alterations in the sole of the foot zone. In lightand electron microscopically, morphological deposition pattern of the fibrils showed a typical AA form. The fibrils were observed on the walls of blood vessels and the neighboring connective tissues. However, we could find a characteristic finding that amyloid fibrils were mainly formed in the cytoplasm of reticuloendothelial system cells, especially in the histiocytes. Subsequently, intracytoplasmic fibrils were transformed into a amyloid nodule and the nodules were also fused into a large homogeneous mass.","PeriodicalId":237003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japan Society of the Reticuloendothelial System","volume":"77 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129353238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, reports of such cases are rare. Although familial aggregations of Adult T cell leukemia-lymphoma (ATLL) which have been frequently observed in Kyushu are pointed out, familial lymphomas other than ATLL are few in Japan.We reported a case of extranodal lymphoma with transient monoclonal gammopathy via hypogammaglobulinemia occurred subsequent to idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura after unsuccessive treatment of corticosteroids for 3 years. A 76 years old man developed left pleural effusion in November, 1985. Diagnosis of lymphoma (diffuse large cell, B cell type) was obtained by the examination of pleural biopsy specimens using immunohistochemical techniques. Chemotherapy was started. Chest X-P examined in March, 1986 revealed multiple nodules in the left lung and central nervous system involvement of lymphoma was documented in July, 1986. Patient died in October, 1986. Autopsy revealed neither lymph node swelling nor lymph node involvement of lymphoma.His daughter who was 41 years old developed gastric pain in August, 1985. Two main subjects were as follows;1) Effects of smoking and pretreatment with lipopolysaccharide on superoxide anion and leukotriene B4 secretion from AM in association with the pathogenesis of emphysema and adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).2) Effects of certain macrophage-active cytokines on Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) growth in AM in combination with myeloperoxidase in association with the pathogenesis of primary MAC infection in the lung.In conclusion, hyperactivated state of AM might cause some forms of inflammatory lung disease, such as emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, and ARDS, while some defects of their function might cause some forms of chronic pulmonary infection, such as primary MAC disease. The demonstration of the real role of AM in the disease process are worth pursuing in the future study.","PeriodicalId":237003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japan Society of the Reticuloendothelial System","volume":"209 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115645175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We succeeded to establish two newly monoclonal antibodies, named CSA-1 and CSA-2. CSA-1 reacted not only with all vascular endothelial cells, but also with fibroblastic reticulum cells of the inner zone of ellipsoid. CSA-2 detected dendritic cells surrounding the outer zone of ellipsoid, on which class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) were expressed. In the ontogenic study, it was shown that CSA-1-positive reticulum cells appeared on day 18th of fetal stage, which was the critical date when the tight junction of endothelial cells of sheath artery disappeared. And CSA-2-positive dendritic cells and macrophages accumulated around sheath artery on the same day 18th. Using anti-chicken class II MHC monoclonal antibody, CBL-1, macrophages and dendritic cells of ellipsoid were possitive, but endothelial cells of sheath artery were negative against CBL-1. Even with immunological activation by intravenous injection of horseradish peroxidase, endothelial cells didn't express class II MHC. Therefore, it is strongly suggested that macrophages and dendritic cells of ellipsoid, but endothelial cells, play important roles in immune response.","PeriodicalId":237003,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Japan Society of the Reticuloendothelial System","volume":"144 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122495516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
