Renewable energy sources are the only sustainable resource for implementing the decarbonisation strategy. This paper presents the results of research of the potential of solar and wind energy in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. The spatial depressiveness of these sources is presented and the energy potential is estimated for each region. Based on the available global databases, the potential was considered and the possible installed capacity and gross annual electricity production for each region were defined. It was concluded that the technically usable potential of wind energy in the territory of the Republic of Serbia (excluding Kosovo and Metohija) is about 11,500 MW, from which about 29.5 TWh of electricity could be produced annually. The technically usable solar potential in Serbia is estimated at about 24 GWp, of which about half is on roof surfaces. Trends to improve energy efficiency are mainly aimed at the construction sector as one of the leading sectors in energy consumption. In the paper the performance of the decentralized solar assisted heating systems (SAHS) for climatic conditions in Macedonia was analysed in order to assess its possibility to be integrated as part of the district heating system. The analysis is based on a holistic approach, in which the performance of the SAHS is generally functionally dependent on four factors: (1) the characteristics of each component, (2) the system structure and mutual interactions of the components, (3) the management method and (4) specific energy consumption for heating of the building. The specific analysis is directed toward the assessment of the solar fraction of the SAHS as a function of the building energy performance and system heating temperature range. The numerical modelling of the processes occurring in systems was performed with the dynamic simulation software TRNSYS. Both dynamic models of the solar bivalent system and reference building were developed. The dynamic model contributes to the flexibility of conducting parametric analysis. Solar power is the primary energy source during the day, while in night conditions it is actually used as a distribution network (which also supplies street lighting). The power system is implemented with two controlled MPPT chargers (mains and solar), 12V / 110Ah battery bank and associated monitoring system. Two basic bearers of costs have been defined in the public electricity company in Serbia (hereinafter referred to as the company), although it is a homogeneous product: 1. electricity from lignite thermal power plants and 2. electricity from hydropower plants. In that sense, we have carried out a set of procedures through which the costs per unit of product were incurred (in this case, the unit of production is 1 MWh of electricity). First, on the basis of the costs that the company records in its income statements during 2017, 2018 and 2019, it is estimated how much expenditure the company has and bears, i.e. the state (since it is a public company) for the production of 1MWh. Then, the cost price was \"upgraded\" with those expenses that are \"not seen\" directly in the company's income statement, but are paid by society and the state in other ways. The related measures will have to be implemented much sooner than initially planned. Knowing that 80% of national GHG emissions originate from the energy sector, as well as that the dominant portion of those emissions results from the use of locally available coal, it is clear that the most efficient climate change mitigation measure would be a switch to alternative fuel options. However, having in mind that such an energy transition process is coupled with significant technological, environmental, economic, social, and other difficulties, the EU has initiated several projects, and one of them is TRACER, launched under the Horizon 2020 program, that strives to shed light on the best research and innovation strategies facilitating easier transition to the sustainable, low carbon energy system. The project addresses actions across nine coal-intensive European regions, including Kolubara Region in Serbia. Milovanović","doi":"10.46793/eee20-1-2.065dm","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.46793/eee20-1-2.065dm","url":null,"abstract":"The applied methodology for the simulation of the dynamic heat exchange processes is based on the application of the RC-model (R-resistor, C-capacitor). According to that model the final number of parallel layers is formed through the cross- section of the construction element and to those layers the characteristics which are equivalent to the elements of the electric circuit are assigned. By establishing the heat balance equations for the nodes between adjacent layers, heat transfer matrices are determined for each time interval, and therefore the dynamics of heat exchange is defined as well. The complexity of the heat exchange process of the buildings with the environment is particularly pronounced in the cooling mode, when the influence of short-wave radiation is dominant within other influences. Due to the absorption of short-wave radiation, the processes of periodic accumulation and release of heat in the opaque building elements are expressed. The results of established model were compared on the results of three validation tests given in EN ISO 52017, and they showed good matches with the given hourly values of the operative temperature. Optimal locations and powers of PV systems and ESS, considering the improvement of distribution network operation, are determined by metaheuristic optimization method of genetic algorithm (GA), where losses in distribution network and its voltage profile are used as quality indicators for distribution network operation. Two approaches are used to determine the optimal power of PV system during the day, depending on the ratio of injected power into the network by the PV system and its maximum available power at a given time. Cases with different load distributions in the distribution network are analyzed, as well as the cases with different number of connected PV systems and ESS. Negative external effects and other market imperfections have, among other things, a serious consequence - they send the wrong price signals and mask the real costs that arise in the process of energy production and consumption. As a result, there is a serious degradation of the environment at the local and global level. Negative effects at the global level, such as the depletion of non-renewable resources and changes in the global climate, represent the most serious challenges facing humanity today. Public sector responses to market imperfections, in the form of various measures and instruments, are well known in economic theory and have proved effective in practice in many circumstances. However, the fact that giving priority to economic and social goals in public policies can have and often results in deterioration of the quality of the environment is mainly ignored in the professional literature even today. In addition, the failure of energy regulations leads to environmental degradation. The situation is especially critical in many developing countries. In the race to achieve goals in the field of industry, agriculture or energy, there are major environmental problems that lead to environmental unsustainability as collateral damage. From an economic point of view, both the effectiveness and efficiency of energy policy are important, in terms of its potential to contribute to improvements in the field of environmental protection and energy efficiency. One of the best strategies is to introduce important aspects of the environment into the market sphere. In this way, the limitations of natural resources would be reflected in their prices. In order to achieve the highest possible specific force, a method based on a programmed change of the phase angle is proposed. The proposed method takes the influence of the magnetic circuit saturation on the electromagnetic interaction and current form. Simulation results are obtained using the finite element method. After the expiration of governmental incentive measures, power plants based on renewable energy sources will enter the liberalized market, where electricity prices will largely depend on the production of renewable energy sources. In order to achieve the maximum possible profit of the power plant under such conditions, it is necessary to consider the possibility of investing in solutions that are less represented today, but with the prospect of being more profitable in the future. Such a solution is a solar power plant consisting of vertically placed bifacial modules whose active surfaces are oriented in the east-west direction. This configuration of the power plant can achieve higher production in periods of high prices, and thus higher profits from the sale of electricity. On the other hand, such a solution is more expensive than a standard solar power plant with monofacial modules. In this paper, a comparison of return on investment in a bifacial power plant and a monofacial power plant with existing and prospective market conditions is performed. PVsyst software was used to analyze the solar potential and production profiles of photovoltaic power plants. The influence of solar power plant production on the price of electricity was investigated on the example of Germany.
