Minimizing congestion occurrence in a network would optimize the network performance and satisfy end users requirements. As high-speed networks are designed to offer widespread services, including real time multimedia, an efficient congestion avoidance scheme is required to keep the network functioning within its capacity. This paper introduces a queue velocity-based drop probability function that is essential for any proactive queue management mechanism. It is a dynamic function of the instant (current) queue size that enables a queue management mechanism to provide more specific information regarding condition of the router buffer upon packet arrivals. It allows the router to differentiate a range of congestion conditions and to treat them accordingly. It can help lowering the chance of unnecessary packet drops, prevents excessive oscillations in the current queue length, and improves the link utilization.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114381500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, U. S. Cellular has launched plans to share data among multiple devices without considering conflicts of interests. In this paper, we are the first to propose TSWiFi, a traffic sharing platform designed to solve the problem of traffic wasting in 2G/3G/4G mobile networks. The system includes access module, traffic management module and authentication management module. These modules show that it is convenient for consumers and providers to use, monitor, and manage the traffic. Moreover, we implement an optimal usage-based payment approach on this platform to distribute the interests of traffic providers and consumers. In the payment model, we adopt Lagrangian method with the weighted proportional fair (WPF) model to solve the optimal problem. Furthermore, the rational usage-based pricing is determined by the type of service and the credit grade to stimulate users' enthusiasm. At last, the optimal payment of TSWiFi is validated through simulations. It has been revealed that the proposed pricing is experimentally lower than and reduces about 50% of the pricing of the general data plans in the best cases.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121651365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, these networks cope with the continuous growth of the number of Internet users. Optical Burst Switching (OBS) paradigm is expected to be the backbone infrastructure of near-future all-optical Internet. In OBS, data and control packet known as burst header packet (BHP) are sent out of band (i.e., control packets and data bursts are carried by different channels) and it is sent ahead of the data burst to reserve necessary network resources for the corresponding burst. After the elapse of a predetermined time known as offset time, the data burst is sent with the hope that, the control packet was able to make necessary reservations. Sending the BHP ahead of the burst exposes the burst to different security challenges, particularly data burst redirection and denial of service attacks. If the BHP is compromised the corresponding burst will definitely be compromised. Less efforts have been dedicated to investigate control packet security issues in OBS. In this paper, we propose and evaluate a solution to address Data Burst Redirection (DBR) Attack in OBS networks. The solution is designed based on Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) public-key encryption algorithm. We evaluated the algorithm via computer simulation. Evaluation metrics are burst loss ratio and throughput. The obtained results demonstrate that, the proposed algorithm has succeeded in protecting the network against DBR attacks reducing the number of compromised BHP. In the future, the authors will work on denial of service issues considering reliability aspects.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131921021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ring resonators have attracted a lot of attention to develop optical delay line which has numerous applications in communication. Properties of these micro ring resonators are highly dependent on waveguide geometry and can be tailored for various applications with minor changes. This paper investigates performance of single and multi stage ring resonators by manipulating geometry and gap between slab and ring waveguide for single mode propagation which may assist to make well informed decisions in the selection process of best-suited ring waveguide for particular application. This investigation is further extended to verify the tolerance of the design in case of fabrication errors with dimension of ±10nm.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"225 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130682853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In waveband-switching networks, grouping methods of a few kinds has been reported. Comparisons among grouping methods on the network of ladder topology, such as Japan, have not been reported. This study investigated the influence of waveband grouping methods on the OXC size and the wavelength resource utilization efficiency. Results from numerical simulations show that grouping methods which group wavelength paths with a part of same route are preferred to grouping method which groups those with the same route.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127654565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This necessitates the use of a carrier phase recovery and compensation circuitry at the receiver end which is capable of tracking large frequency offsets and laser linewidths. We propose a frequency detector which is capable of detecting frequency offsets from -100MHz to +100 MHz. The proposed frequency detector has been designed in 130nm BiCMOS technology. The design is verified with 50 Gbps QPSK, and 100 Gbps DP-QPSK signals using circuit simulations. A 50 Gbps low power analog domain QPSK receiver consisting of the proposed frequency detector consumes 650mW power. The receiver is capable of working with transmitter and receiver lasers having upto 200 kHz linewidth and 100MHz frequency offset between them.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124416479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evanescent wave can interact with environmental perturbations surrounding the waist region thus affecting the light propagation. This allows the waist region to be employed as an effective sensing region. This work is focused on a new fiber taper structure referred to as asymmetric fiber taper for temperature sensing application. Asymmetric tapered fiber is fabricated with different down-taper and up-taper lengths. By subjecting the sensor to temperature variation, wavelength shifts corresponding to different temperature can be observed. Comparison with symmetric taper sensor, asymmetric exhibits better sensitivity making it a feasible choice for this application. The best sensitivity is obtained from taper profile 2-15-8 which is 0.2395nm/°C.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124522125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have achieved a coupling efficiency of 94% (-0.25dB) using metal reflector and after the cascaded triangular waveguides, the efficiency remains as high as 80% (-0.95dB) with 1-dB bandwidth of 80 nm.
