The Alamouti-type space time coding scheme suitable for CSK signals in VLC systems is proposed, which is a modification of Alamouti coding scheme in RF wireless systems. The signal constellations of CSK signals are redesigned to be applied in the Alamouti-type coding scheme. Besides, The repetition coding is presented as well. Performance comparison has been made between the Alamouti-type coding scheme and the repetition coding scheme. It is find out that both coding schemes are able to extract full diversity order. Simulation results demonstrate that repetition coding performs almost the same as Alamouti-type coding when the same constellations are employed. Our findings clearly point out that the deployment of Alamouti-type coding is not necessary in VLC systems with CSK modulation and the reason for this conclusion is discussed at last.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114661891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, bit-error-rate (BER) performance of FSO link depends on the atmospheric conditions and turbulence strength. In this paper, the performance of intensity modulation/direct detection-time division multiplexed-FSO (IM/DD-TDM-FSO) link and IM/DD-orthogonal frequency division multiplexed-FSO (IM/DD-OFDM-FSO) link are analytically compared. BER is expressed assuming the turbulence as Gamma-Gamma distribution. At BER of 10-3, there is 14.7 dB gain in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and 7.2 dB improvement in receiver sensitivity with OFDM-FSO link as compared to traditional TDM-FSO link.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125558461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed setup managed to sense the changes of RI when the tapered region was exposed to different concentrations of Sodium chloride (NaCl). This was possible due to the output interference spectrum shifting in response to the changes of RI. Different environmental sensitivities were achieved by manipulating the transition lengths of the tapered fiber. Experimental results depict RI sensitivities of 3914.7 nm/RIU (refractive index unit) and 3395.7 nm/RIU for taper profiles with down-taper transition lengths of 2 mm and 8 mm, respectively, which is higher than previously reported asymmetric taper RI sensors. Such findings may find itself beneficial in low cost, reliable and simplified sensors.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134040008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the films were analyzed through a Hall test, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and transmittance. The XRD results showed MgO2 (002) wurtzite peak as well as an MgxZn1-xO (111)-cubic peak. The absorption edges of these Nb-MZO films were located in the UV region, implying that the MgO content of the Nb-MZO layer increased the bandgaps. The XPS spectra of Nb-MZO films were also used to analyze the composition of the as-grown and annealed Nb-MZO films. These results indicate that the Nb-MZO films are ideal for use as transparent contact layers.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134216923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we have focused on the deployment of spectral inversion technique (OPC) and optimum Raman amplifier configuration towards improvement of system performance. Comparison is also done, where no OPC is used. Our analysis shows that, introduction of DRA with optimized pumping scheme significantly reduce fiber non-linearity, which improves of the system performance compared to the situation where only spectral inversion technique is used.","PeriodicalId":236981,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Broadband and Photonics Conference (IBP)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132445606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
