Materials and Methods: The TCMSP and UniProt databases were used to mine the active components and targets of ephedra-gypsum, and the targets of RD were screened using the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) and GeneCards databases. The protein-protein interaction network graph was created using the drug-disease intersection targets in the STRING database. The network diagram was analyzed using Cytoscape 3.9.1's topology function. The gene ontology (GO) and KEGG enrichment analyses were performed using the DAVID platform. Molecular docking bioactivity validation of the main active components and core targets was performed using AutoDock and PyMOL software. Results: Twenty-four compounds were screened, and 113 drug-disease targets overlapped. In total, 358 biological processes, 67 molecular functions, 38 cellular components of GO, and 139 pathways were identified. Molecular docking analysis demonstrated the strong binding ability of tumor protein 53 (TP53)-luteolin. Conclusion: The core components of ephedra-gypsum, such as quercetin, luteolin, kaempferol, and CaSO4·2H2O, act on key targets, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interleukin-6 (IL-6), TP53, and IL-1 β through cytokine-mediated signaling pathways, inflammatory responses, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. This could be useful for the treatment of RD.","PeriodicalId":23692,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine","volume":"9 1","pages":"150 - 159"},"PeriodicalIF":4.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48659726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Rats were divided into four groups: Control, PDM, EA, and nonacupoint EA (sham) groups. Writhing reactions in the rats were carefully monitored. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) levels in the rat serum were measured using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. To assess the damage, the histomorphology of the rat uterus was examined using the optical and electron microscopy. Western blotting was performed to determine the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain carboxy-terminal leucine-rich repeat domain and amino-terminal pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3), apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase recruitment domain(ASC), and cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase-1(caspase-1), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and IL-18. Results: Compared with the control group, the PDM group exhibited significant increases in both writhing times and scores, with a high pathological score of the uterine tissue. Serum PGF2α levels were significantly elevated, whereas PGE2 levels were significantly reduced. In addition, the expression levels of NLRP3, ASC, caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-18 significantly increased (P < 0.001). The EA group showed opposite effects from the PDM group (all P < 0.05). The sham group exhibited significantly higher writhing time, serum PGF2α levels, and expression levels of NLRP3, ASC, caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-18 than the EA group. In contrast, serum PGE2 levels in the sham group were significantly lower than those in the EA group (all P < 0.05). Conclusions: NLRP3 inflammasome activation in PDM triggers pathological inflammation. Sanyinjiao(SP6) and Guanyuan(CV4) had specific effects on PDM. EA of SP6 and CV4 may treat PDM by inhibiting inflammation and protecting the morphological structure of the uterus.","PeriodicalId":23692,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine","volume":"9 1","pages":"123 - 130"},"PeriodicalIF":4.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46697669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Thirty-six rats were used in this study. LDH rats were subjected to noncompressive LDH surgeries. Rats were randomly divided into the model and Guasha groups. Guasha was applied on alternate days for a total of nine times (three courses). At the end of each course, six rats were randomly selected from each group and their blood samples were collected. iTRAQ labeling was used to examine the mechanism of action of Guasha against LDH. The molecular functions, cellular components, and biological processes were analyzed using gene ontology analysis. The Ingenuity Pathway Analysis database was used to identify canonical pathways involving these proteins. Results: Compared to the model group, 198, 182, and 170 proteins were identified as differentially expressed at the three respective Guasha treatment courses. Pathways, including focal adhesion kinase signaling, acute-phase response signaling, and the LXR/RXR activation pathway, were closely related to the effects of Guasha in LDH rats. Furthermore, Rac1, Orm1, and Hpx were validated by western blotting, and the results were consistent with the protein expression levels observed using the iTRAQ method. Conclusion: Guasha could not only regulate the pathological changes related to LDH, but also achieve therapeutic effects by stimulating physiological changes. Our results offer a better understanding of the effects of Guasha on LDH.","PeriodicalId":23692,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine","volume":"9 1","pages":"160 - 166"},"PeriodicalIF":4.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43687673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is believed that the endogenous protection mechanism of acupuncture in “preventive treatment of disease” lies in harmonizing Yin and Yang and dredging meridians; stimulating righteousness and rejecting the evil outside; preventing disease; co-cultivating body and spirit, and regulating emotions. The incidence of OR dysfunction is closely related to the uterus-related meridians and viscera. The mechanism of acupuncture treatment of OR dysfunction may be related to reproductive endocrine hormone levels, ovarian tissue morphology, immune system, granulosa cell apoptosis, and related signal transduction pathways. The clinical effect of acupuncture treatment of diminished OR is reflected in improving menstruation and ovulation; improving OR function, promoting pregnancy; improving local ovarian microenvironment; improving negative emotions, improving quality of life, and thus affecting pregnancy outcomes. This article summarizes the mechanism of action and clinical effect of acupuncture in the treatment of decreased OR function based on recent findings, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of acupuncture in the treatment of disease, and provides the rationale for the clinical application of acupuncture in the treatment of decreased OR function.","PeriodicalId":23692,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine","volume":"9 1","pages":"111 - 122"},"PeriodicalIF":4.4,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47900641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used molecular docking and network pharmacological approaches to explore the active components of this Chinese herb combination which is commonly used for treating Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the Chai-Hu and Bai-Shao pair (CBP). Materials and Methods: The active compounds and action targets of Chai-Hu and Bai-Shao were identified in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database, and the Therapeutic Target Database, DrugBank, GenCards, DisGeNET, and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man databases were used to identify therapeutic targets in patients with AD. To identify a common target of CBP in the treatment of AD, we used the Metascape tool to perform Gene Ontology function enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses. In addition, CBP-AD protein–protein interaction (PPI) and herb-component-target networks were created using Cytoscape 3.8.2. Molecular docking was verified using AutoDock tools. Results: We identified 20 active compounds of CBP, 202 active targets, 1,323 disease targets, and 117 active compound disease intersection targets; the PPI network showed that the top eight key targets were AKT1, interleukin (IL) 6, JUN, MAPK1, tumor necrosis factor, TP53, vascular endothelial growth factor, and epidermal growth factor. These act mainly on the fluid shear stress, atherosclerosis, IL-17, hypoxia-inducible factor-1, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease pathways, among others, which control immune inflammation, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. Based on molecular docking results, the active components of CBP bind well to its key targets. Conclusion: Our results indicated that CBP was effective for treating AD by reducing the expression of inflammatory factors, promoting cell proliferation and differentiation, and preventing nerve cell death and anti-neuronal cell apoptosis.","PeriodicalId":23692,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134952758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: A total of 30 Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice were randomly and equally assigned to the control, carrageenan-induced air pouch synovitis model (model), and carrageenan-induced air pouch synovitis model + DHP (200 mg/kg of body weight) (model + DHP) groups. Mice in the model + DHP group were intragastrically administered 200 mg/kg BW of DHP solution daily for 10 days. Mice in the control and model groups were intragastrically administered the same amount of distilled water. Two hours after intragastric administration on day 10, 1 mL of a 1% carrageenan solution in a sterile 0.9% saline solution was injected into the air pouch of mice in the model and model + DHP groups. Six hours later, the mice were sacrificed and 4 mL of ice-cold sterile 0.9% saline solution was injected into the air pouch to fully wash its inner wall. The lavage fluid was collected to observe the color and turbidity of the lavage fluid, as well as the appearance of the backside of the air pouch. The exudate volume, total number of leukocytes, protein content, levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) activity of the lavage fluid were analyzed. Results: The results showed that pretreatment with DHPs reduced the carrageenan-induced exudate volume ( P < 0.01), total leukocytes ( P < 0.05), and protein content ( P < 0.01) in the air pouch lavage fluid. Furthermore, mice in the model + DHP group had significantly higher ( P < 0.01) T-SOD activity and lower MDA content ( P < 0.05), IL-1β ( P < 0.05), and TNF-α ( P < 0.01) levels in the air pouch lavage fluid compared with the model group. Conclusion: It is concluded that DHPs partially alleviated carrageenan-induced sterile inflammation, and its mechanism may be related to reducing exudation and scavenging oxygen-free radicals, inhibiting lipid peroxidation, and reducing the level of the proinflammatory factors, such as IL-1β and TNF-α.","PeriodicalId":23692,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine","volume":"365 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134952759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
