In the past 50 years, significant advancements have been made in the treatment of disorders like hypertension, adult-onset diabetes, and increased cholesterol that are directly related to obesity. However, the disease of obesity has proven to be mostly resistant to treatments, and anti-obesity drugs (AOMs) frequently have questionable safety and poor efficacy. Here, we give a summary of the history of AOM development with an emphasis on the lessons learned and current challenges. The search for next-generation AOMs that look capable of safely accomplishing significant and sustained body weight loss is motivated by recent developments, including improved knowledge of the molecular gut-brain communication. The exploration of medicinal plants for their anti-obesity potential has gained momentum due to their perceived safety and cultural acceptance.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136057864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

T2DM accounts for around 90% of all cases of diabetes mellitus, afflicting millions worldwide. It is a significant global health burden with a steadily increasing prevalence. In T2DM, the response to insulin is diminished, and this is defined as insulin resistance. Risk factors for T2DM are diverse. Some are modifiable, and others are not. Modifiable risk factors include overweight/obesity, lack of exercise or physical inactivity, poor nutrition, etc. Non-modifiable risk factors include age, ethnicity/race, family history, history of gestational diabetes mellitus, etc. The starting points and mainstays of treatment for T2DM are diet and lifestyle modifications such as increased physical activity and stoppage of smoking. In addition to the diet and lifestyle modifications, drugs are also used in the management of T2DM. This study aimed to profile the clinical dynamics of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients. Current literatures from different databases including MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Google Scholar, etc. on the topic were searched online and reviewed.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"165 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135546303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review article examines the safety data of drug Opicapone from literature and real-world sources of safety data, highlighting the need for vigilance over anti-parkinsonian drugs. For literature review, the PubMed database was mined which concluded that Opicapone, a selective COMT inhibitor for PD, demonstrated ADR like dyskinesia, nausea, vomiting, headache, and constipation where on the other hand real-world evidence showed no safety alerts or recalls initiated by regulatory authorities for Opicapone, but known risks like dyskinesia and hallucination were identified. However, clinical trial statistics revealed hypertension as the most probable ADR, alongside constipation, dizziness, dyskinesia, headache, somnolence, and hyperhidrosis. Whereas, unlisted events, such as somnolence, hyperhidrosis, pulmonary embolism, and abdominal pain, were also observed. Most ADRs belonged to the nervous system disorders and gastrointestinal disorders class which can be attributed to the pharmacological effect of Opicapone. It was concluded from this review that there is need for continuous safety vigilance for Opicapone use as despite the presence of well-structured safety guidance, new risks can emerge.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135788603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

 The Siddha system is a traditional holistic medicine. It mainly exists in South India and is regarded as one of India's oldest medical systems. This approach is built on ancient medicinal traditions, spiritual disciplines, alchemy, and mysticism. Medicinal plants have long been used to treat human diseases. Trial medication compositions for the treatment of male infertility were documented in Siddha's ancient literature. The investigation aimed to assess the biochemical analysis of the trial medicine Murungai Nei, which demonstrated the presence of carbonate, sulfates, and phosphate, as well as the augmentation of therapeutic activity in male infertility. As a result, I conclude that the existence of these substances is a treatment for male infertility.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135721003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland. It is characterized by autoimmune-mediated thyroid gland destruction, which results in progressive thyroid failure, either with or without goiter formation. In young to middle-aged women, Hashimoto's thyroiditis typically starts as a painless, diffuse, firm thyroid gland enlargement that progresses to hypothyroidism. Many people don't initially exhibit hypothyroidism, and some don't even have a goiter or may have an atrophic thyroid gland. Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), also known as chronic autoimmune thyroiditis, is an inflammatory condition that is characterized by parenchymal atrophy, fibrosis, and diffuse lymphocytic infiltration. being the main source of primary hypothyroidism in regions with adequate iodine. With the help of various criteria, such as physical examination, blood tests for thyroid hormone levels (TSH is low, T3 and T4 are tall, for example), serum cholesterol and triglycerides, blood glucose, and radioactive iodine uptake, it is possible to distinguish between infections and clutter. According to estimates from several thyroid disease studies, 42 million persons in India are estimated to have the ailment. The pathogenesis causes, risk factors and combination therapy linked to Hashimoto's thyroiditis are discussed in this review study.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135208491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
