It is caused by detrimental heterozygous FGFR3 gene mutations. Gain-of-function mutations in the FGFR3 gene impair chondrocyte differentiation and proliferation, which has a negative impact on the formation of new bone. Vosoritide, also known as voxzogo, is the first pharmacological intervention to receive approval for the treatment of achondroplasia. This therapeutic agent has been sanctioned for administration via at-home injections, which are to be performed under the supervision of a proficient nurse.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"16 48","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140442436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was carried out with an objective to determine the efficacy of Metformin with other oral hypoglycemic agents, to educate the patients about the disease and use of drugs in diabetes mellitus and to evaluate which class of drugs in oral hypoglycemic agents with Metformin shows more effectiveness. The patients in each group received the medication for 8 weeks duration. A study was carried out about the comparative, efficacy of glimepiride and metformin in type-2 DM which was a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. The results of the study were that metformin alone does not show the efficacy than with Metformin+ Teneligliptin and Metformin + Glimepiride in overall efficacy of controlling FBS and PPBS. Combination of Metformin+ Glimepiride is more effective than Metformin+ Teneligliptin and Metformin alone. There is an increasing demand by patients to use the natural products (plants) with anti-diabetic activity due to the severe side effects associated with the use of insulin and oral anti-diabetic drugs. One such plant is Justicia tranquebareinsis which has been traditionally used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study was, therefore, to evaluate hypoglycemic activity of ethanol extract of Justicia tranquebareinsis in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats, respectively and to carry out acute toxicity test. Two doses (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg) of the ethanol extract of Justicia tranquebareinsis were administered to normal glucose loaded and diabetic rat to study blood glucose lowering effect. Ethanol extract of Justicia tranquebareinsis (200mg/kg and 400mg/kg, p.o.) showed significant tolerance (P < 0.05) to oral glucose load at 1 and 2 hrs after glucose load. The extract also produced significant (P < 0.05) blood glucose reduction at 4 hours after its administration in normoglycemic mice. The extract at 400mg/kg dose level produced significant (P < 0.05) reduction in blood glucose level at 2, 3 and 4 hours of treatment in streptozotocin (45 mg/kg) induced diabetic mice. Acute oral toxicity studies of ethanol extract of Justicia tranquebareinsis in rats showed no death or signs of toxicity at the dose of 2000 mg/kg indicating the safety nature of the extract. The results of the experiments showed that ethanol extract of Justicia tranquebareinsis has significant antihyperglycemic activity in streptozotocin induced diabetic rat and improvement in glucose tolerance and slight hypoglycemic activity in normal rat justifying the traditional claim for its use in diabetes.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"15 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138966280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Symptomatic hip OA was observed in 9.2% of adults aged 45 and above, with 27% displaying radiographic evidence of the condition. While there is no definitive cure for OA, numerous research studies have explored the application of PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) for addressing knee OA, there is a relatively limited number of investigations dedicated to hip OA. It is important to note that the hip joint possesses distinct characteristics compared to the other three joints. Therefore, in this systematic review, we wanted to focus on hip osteoarthritis and gave a brief update from the previous studies. This systematic review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) guidelines. All randomized control trials that compared injection of Platelet-Rich Plasma and Hyaluronic Acid in hip osteoarthritis patients using English language from 2018 until 2023 will be included. Six studies involved in this study with total samples of 237 in PRP group and 220 in HA group. The injection site, injection volume, number of injections, interval, and follow up were varied between these studies. All of the patients are undergoing treatment with ultrasound-guided intraarticular injections of PRP. The outcomes tabulated were Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Harris Hip Score (HHS), and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score which showed improvements from the baseline. All of the studies showed improvement of the score from the baseline. Although, there were improvements, it can be concluded that there was not enough evidence to promote the utilization of intra-articular PRP injections as a treatment for hip osteoarthritis. Since international guidelines only recommend intra-articular steroid injections for managing hip OA, it would be advantageous to conduct additional studies comparing PRP to steroids to assess the effectiveness of PRP injections in treating hip OA.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"244 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138985124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it's poor skin permeability and limited stability often hinder its clinical application. Emulgel, a hybrid dosage form combining the advantages of both emulsions and gels, has emerged as a promising topical delivery system to enhance the skin permeation and stability of poorly permeable drugs. In this study, we aimed to formulate and characterize an Ivermectin emulgel to address the challenges associated with its topical delivery. The emulgel was prepared using a two-step method, involving the preparation of an oil-in-water (o/w) emulsion, which was then gelled with suitable gelling agents. Different concentrations of Ivermectin, oil phase, surfactants, and gelling agents were screened to optimize the formulation for maximum drug loading and stability. The optimized Ivermectin emulgel was characterized for its physicochemical properties, including pH, viscosity, spreadability, drug content, and rheological behavior. The study's findings support the potential application of the emulgel in treating various skin conditions caused by parasites and infectious agents. Further, in vivo studies and clinical trials are required to validate its safety and effectiveness in a clinical setting.","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"27 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135979523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intensive aquaculture in a confined region induces environmental stress in farmed fish, which indirectly increases their vulnerability to many diseases. Aeromonas hydrophila, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Vibrio harveyi are the causative bacterial pathogens for septicemia, the most prevalent and commonly seen illness. Disease outbreaks result in a rise in mortality or a decrease in the quality of the meat, consequently inflicting substantial economic losses to carp production. In contrast, the continual use of antibiotics for infection management has contributed to the proliferation of drug-resistant bacteria in aquatic environments. In this context, marine actinobacteria are emerging as possible sources of new secondary metabolites to combat the problem. Actinobacteria are undoubtedly the most prolific producers of secondary metabolites, and they comprise several commercially and biotechnologically significant species. In this investigation, marine actinobacteria were isolated and evaluated for their antibacterial effectiveness against septicemia pathogens. Effective strains were identified as Nocardiopsis sp., Streptomyces sp., and Pseudonocardia sp. Candidate strains culture filtrates were treated with acetone to precipitate complete proteins. The antibacterial and anti-quorum sensing properties of the crude protein against A. hydrophila MTCC 1739 and P. aeruginosa MTCC 9425 were also examined using the agar well diffusion method. In addition, in vivo investigations of the low molecular weight fraction on Labeorohita demonstrated the fraction's efficacy in reducing septicemia infection. Screening and evaluation were conducted for researches. Results: Seven studies are included in this review and a table has been formed to show the comparison of HO and Control. Discussion : This study aimed to assess the occurrence of heterotopic ossification (HO) after hip arthroscopy and compare outcomes between those who received prophylactic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and those who did not. The hypothesis was that NSAIDs could reduce postoperative HO. The significance of this trend varied in retrospective research due to differences in NSAID regimens. The usefulness of NSAID prophylaxis should be carefully weighed against potential side effects, and patient compliance should be assessed in future research, as it was inconsistently reported in the existing literature. Conclusion: NSAID lower the rate of postoperative HO, however, more studies need to be conducted to analyze certain efficacy of certain type of HO","PeriodicalId":23642,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Current Medical and Pharmaceutical Research","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136182884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
