(PC) leaf extract by sol-gel method and used as an adsorbent for the removal of Pb (II) ions from aqueous solution. The synthesized ZnO NPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Ultraviolet - visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) and Brunauer - Emmet - Teller (BET). The results revealed high purity and wurtzite hexagonal structure of ZnO NPs in the size range of 28-37 nm. The morphology of the ZnO NPs varies in different polycrystalline aggregates depending on the amount of extract used, from nanorods to NPs clusters with a BET surface area of 8.56 m2g-1. Pb (II) ion adsorption was investigated at different pH, contact time, initial metal ion concentration, adsorbent dose and temperature. ZnO NPs were synthesized using 30 mL PC leaf extract (ZS30) is the best Pb (II) absorbent. The adsorption isotherm was well described by Langmuir (at low concentration of Pb (II)) and Freundlich isotherm model (at higher concentration of Pb (II)). The adsorption process follows pseudo-second-order reaction kinetic with a high regression coefficient. The calculated thermodynamic parameters, ΔGo (between - 8.699 and - 7.569 kJ/mol at 298 - 316 K), ∆Ho (-20.085 kJ/mol) showed that the adsorption of Pb (II) on ZS30 surface was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic, respectively. The first layer absorption is chemisorption while the next layers are physical adsorption.","PeriodicalId":23524,"journal":{"name":"VNU Journal of Science: Natural Sciences and Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90854204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

TEM and real-time PCR methods were used to examine changes in structure of liver tissue and genetic expression. The TEM results recorded a clear difference between the control and the experimental sample. Adult Medaka fish exposed to 1µg/L DDT for 24 hours has a distorted liver cell nucleus with many hollow lipid particles, and the sinus-shaped meshes are clustered, interrupted; lysosome is not intact with many degenerative bubbles. The results of real-time PCR analysis showed that DDT affects the development, different and proliferation of cells in the embryonic stage and gene expression in adult stage. All three genes p53, rarα1 and wnt in fish embryos changed strongly and tended to be inhibited when exposuring with 1700µg/L DDT, the values were recorded respectively 0.9; 4.9 and 5.4 times compared to the control sample (1 times). For adult fish, gene expression was lower than fish embryos with real-time PCR analysis values for the three genes p53, rarα1 and wnt respectively 0.9 and 0.5; 0.36 and 0.09; 0.53 and 0.09 times after exposure to 1500 and 1700 µg/L DDT. These results demonstrated that gene expression is dependent on the developmental stage of the cell as well as on the dose of the chemical exposed. The development, cell differentiation/proliferation in the embryonic and adulthood stages affected differently to the cell gene expression.","PeriodicalId":23524,"journal":{"name":"VNU Journal of Science: Natural Sciences and Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89584164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The expression level of PmPPAE1 and PmPPAE2 was the highest in the hemolymph; meanwhile that of PmTLP1 and PmTLP2 was the highest in the hepatopancreas. In the hemolymph of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV)-injected shrimp, the expression of PmPPAE1, PmPPAE2 and PmTLP2 genes was upregulated by 2.32, 2.57 and 4.56-folds, respectively, whereas the expression of PmTLP1 was downregulated by 1.47-folds relative to the control group (injected with phosphate buffered saline). In the hepatopancreas of WSSV-injected shrimp, the expression levels of PmPPAE1, PmPPAE2 increased by 2.24 and 3.99-folds, respectively, and that of PmTLP1 and PmTLP2 decreased by 1.51, 1.29-folds, respectively. Trypsin-like protease activity was found increased 3.25-fold and decreased 4.1-fold, in the hemolymph and hepatopancreas of WSSV-infected shrimp, respectively. The chromatographic procedure was performed on Kinetex C18 2.1 x 150 mm, 2.6 µm column with mobile phases: 2 mM HCOONH4 in MeOH and H2O:MeOH (90:10,…). The method quantification limits (MQL) of BPA and BPF were 15.0 and 12.0 ng/g, respectively. The mean recoveries were 80.4% for BPA and 93.8% for BPF (RSD<15%). The calibration curve for both BPA and BPF was linear over a concentration range of 1.0 to 500 ng/mL (R2 ≥ 0.999). Twenty-one samples were collected from private houses, laboratories, drug stores, and plastic recycling factories in Hanoi. BPA and BPF were found in dust samples with frequencies of 85.7 and 100%, respectively. Concentrations of BPA and BPF in dust samples were in the ranges of <MQL–2230 ng/g (mean: 626) and <MQL–149,000 ng/g (mean: 14,700), respectively. Based on the measured concentration, the human exposure to bisphenol via indoor dust ingestion was estimated for various age groups. The estimated exposure dose for people working at plastic recycling factories was the highest level (23.6 ng/kg-bw/day) but lower than the oral reference dose by the EPA and the European Food Safety Authority (50 µg/kg-bw/day).","PeriodicalId":23524,"journal":{"name":"VNU Journal of Science: Natural Sciences and Technology","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91012254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies showed that EDV could be used to treat diseases related to oxidizing agents; however, the activity has not been fully studied yet. In this study, the free radical scavenging activity of EDV was investigated by thermodynamic and kinetic calculations. The results showed that EDV exhibited good HOO• radical scavenging activity in an aqueous medium at pH = 7.40 (koverall(HOO) = 8.58´107 M-1 s-1) through the electron transfer mechanism of the anion state. In contrast, this activity was insignificant in non-polar environments. EDV also exhibited excellent antiradical activity against HO·, CH3O·, CH3OO·, O2·-, NO2, SO4·-, N3· and DPPH radicals in the aqueous solution. Thus, it appears to suggest that EDV is a promising radical scavenger in polar environments.","PeriodicalId":23524,"journal":{"name":"VNU Journal of Science: Natural Sciences and Technology","volume":"91 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85657293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mitigation of the problem is essential to maintain stainable development. In this study, the effectiveness of local soils collected from the Tri An Reservoir (TAR) lakeside in the removal of cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa was investigated. The organic matter content and clay mineral were characterized and used for the experiment. Cell density, percentage of growth inhibition, and changes in cell morphology were observed and used at endpoints of the experiment. The three soil samples named TA1, TA2, and TA3 were characterized with a high proportion of illit, montmorillonit, and kaolinite, respectively. Our results indicated that different soil compositions generated different inhibition on the growth of M. aeruginosa. Exposure to the soil high in kaolinite (52.1%) at a dose of 500 mg/L completely inhibited M. Aeruginosa growth, while the soil contained a high amount of montmorillonit (42.3%) inhibited only 38.4% of the growth of M. aeruginosa. The half-maximal effective concentration (EC50) values of the TA1, TA2, and TA3 soil samples were 351.6 mg/L, 668.9 mg/L, 201.3 mg/L, respectively. Our results suggested that soil rich in kaolinite can be used to prevent harmful cyanobacterial blooms in inland waters.","PeriodicalId":23524,"journal":{"name":"VNU Journal of Science: Natural Sciences and Technology","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82662730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Mekong Delta, this fish distributes mainly in the estuaries and is a commercial value fish species. However, information about this fish digestive tract morphology and energy storage capacity had been still unknown. These characteristics, after being elucidated, wil be the basis for further research on artificially rearing them, contributing to the diversity of cultured subjects. This study was carried out in several coastal areas of provinces in the Mekong Delta from Ben Tre to Tra Vinh, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu. The analysis results of a total of 656 samples (289 females and 367 males) collected monthly, from March to October 2021, showed that E. vaigiensis had a small mouth, thick gill comb, short stomach and long intestines. This showed that they belong to the group of herbivorous fish. Ellochelon vaigiensis displayed a high energy storage capacity due to its relatively large Clark coefficient (0.73±0.03 SE).
